Excellent as expected

Both the narration and story have been continuing strong through the entirety of the Edward W Robertson series. Can't wait for the rest!

Rada&Webber vs. Kansas&Ced, Tough call

Robertson again excels at creating an exciting story around richly detailed space environments. The two chief story arcs each have two primary protagonists. One team, from the Hive, being Rada and Webber and from the Locker we have Kansas and Ced. I'm having difficulty determining which of these duets' story arcs is most compelling since they both have a set of extremely interesting characters and histories.

Rada is a gutsy pilot whose team are given special operations missions from the Hive leader, Webber being the one that's there for her with "pull the bunny out of the hat" ideas when all seems lost and with winning repartees when spirit lifting is needed.

Kansas is willful, semi-psychotic girl who prefers settling conflicts using the straight-forward blunt instrument approach where Ced is more of a deal-maker, always seeking a win-win approach.

These two arcs ping-pong between chapters with each being independent of the other until near the end. Another fresh literary device Robertson used with each of these stories is not one I've seen used very often but works with great effect here.

I will say, though, that this is the first novel I've seen where a difference of approach between two people is mutually and amicably settled with one shooting the other in the back.

Ray Chase continues to impress me with narrating the story and I find myself wondering whether any of the other great narrators could have done as well.

Pure entertainment.

Nice follow-up on book 1

The story developed nicely and added a few more colorful characters to the fray.

The "Locker" is shaping up to play a bigger part in the unfolding story.

The story is told in a nice flowing style with very little of the forced drama that is so prevalent in books these days.

The narration was a bit on the slow side but easy on the ear especially when using headphones.

Frustrating Story, Ill-suited Narrator

This book was extremely frustrating. Great story concept, frustrating execution.

The person chosen to narrate this book was absolutely and completely the wrong choice. It's not that the narrator is not a competent narrator or anything like that, however his voice and the way he generated characters and voices and accents was completely ill-suited for this book.

Narrator was atrocious!

What would have made Thunderbird better?

Honestly I only got a couple chapters into the book. The narrator was so horrible I couldn't get that far. What I did get to was "okay." I usually love Jack McDevitt's books, so I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't so annoyed with the narrator.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator read like he was a child trying to read a book, LOTS of pauses in places there shouldn't have been. The majority of the time he read in a very flat tone. No excitement or drama. Just a flat tone reading. And worse, he tried... "tried," to make different voices. But his accents were crap... sigh.. such a waste.

A terrible disappointment

I've been a jack with every fan for a long time and enjoyed all the stores are ready for him except for this one. It was almost unfinishable. The dialogue was terrible, the plot was lackluster and predictable, and I was thoroughly disappointed. I kept waiting for it to get better but it didn't. Why Jack? Why?

The Jar Jar Binks of McDevitt novels

I like Jack McDevitt's work for the most part; however, Thunderbird was not good. Maybe I missed the point. There is no way governments or people would act the way they do here. And the story went nowhere.

The narrator was a poor choice for this book. Most male characters sound like they've been hit with a sack of stupid and the women sound like hillbilly valley girls.

Disappointed

As a long time fan of Jack McDevitt. I find perplexed and disappointed because of the potential for this story to be great. Two things really bother me about this tale. The first point is the history of the treatment of Native Americans by this country. I was constantly being pulled out of the story.

Love the world

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I have read the book in paperback form and I adore the world that the author has created. Highly recommend that you start with the Blood Series prior to getting into Finder

What didnt you like about Shiromi Arserios performance?

Boring, a bunch of sentences that were splice together. No personality and did the story a HUGE disservice. I will never listen to this narrator again.

Connie Suttle's writing should not be judged on this HORRIBLE audiobook reading from an AWFUL narrator. The Blood Series was well read and worth listening too.

Loved the start of this book...

What did you love best about Finder?

The last book was very hard for me because of all the great characters , I had a hard time keeping them all straight. The whole series was very good. I wouldn't listen to it again but liked it the first time.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The first few books I just couldn't wait to finish. However the last book I didn't have a problem putting down.

Excellent Book - Average Narration.

What did you like most about Finder?

Connie Suttle is an amazing author, and like her other books this one is very good from start to finish. It is nicely paced and what I call a "proper book" - a fully developed story rather than the part stories that you often find in a series.

Did Shiromi Arserio do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

The narration was average, not as good as the narrators for Connie's other books. The inflection and cadence wasn't correct. The differentiation of the characters was present (but not great) but it would had been difficult to understand the flow if I had not read the book. There is a lot of parts of the book where the central character is thinking rather than conversing, and this is not clear.

The story is excellent, the narration is average. Unlike many audio books, the narration does not enhance the story, and I was very disappointed by the change of author.

I felt it was important to include a non-spoiler summary of each story. The authors deserve to have their stories highlighted individually instead of a collective rating.

Mr. Bruns made me cry. The story was beautiful and very moving and frankly it hit very close to home, my home and my elderly dog. In a world where water is the most precious resource, the water finder is the highest regarded position. That is until their gift is gone and they are sold to slavers.

Great sequel

I love the unveiling of this story and the teens in it. My main issue was the military presence. Why are they such jerks? I get being hardcore in what they do, but Id think theyd be a little more willing to listen to medical professionals and people who have been through direct battles with the infected already. Even if they happen to be teens.

I will say Im not sure how much of the military coming across as jerks is the writing vs the narration, this narrator is hard to listen to, Im holding out for when Eric A Sherman takes over right now. I know the narration will improve greatly then.

Over all the story remains engaging and I plan to continue with the next.

you need Mike Evans in your life

The Orphans is quickly becoming my favorite series. As I always preferred to read a book over listening to one I have found audible is just another way to enjoy The Orphans Surviving The Turned. I have listened to this book at least 6 times already. I never get tired of it and once I got used to Jack Wallen, Jr's voice in my head I never looked back. I cannot praise this series enough !!

Awesome

The book was awesome, and so is the audio version. Easy to listen to, clear, and well read.

Exciting intriguing and keeps you wanting to read

in the second book Shawn and the group find themselves faced with things other the just zombies everyone it looks better things can only get worse not to mention Mike makes u wanna care about everyone in the group even if you shouldn't care

As second books go this was an amazing journey. The orphans get the help they need while also giving help. This book is so good at teaching the value of teamwork in surviving. It also raises the question of what would our military actually do in a situation like that? I love the direction this series is heading. It makes up to the long backstory that happen

A Little Lois Lowry with a Dose of Hugh Howey

In a world where stories are written by Artificial Intelligence, paperback books are a high dollar commodity and the modern-day author is a thing of the past, Hugh Howey Lives introduces a very bleak future, void of inspiring literature and stories that allow the imagination to run wild. But there is hope as two women set sail to a mysterious island, thanks to what they believe are clues left behind by Hugh Howey himself. Once they happen upon the island, what they expect to find and what awaits them could very well change their futures.

Hugh Howey Lives is a very refreshing read and I found putting this book down to be difficult. It's not a very long read but it is certainly worth your time, especially if you love Hugh Howey like most people do. Patricia Santomasso does a wonderful job with the audio; a definite homerun in my book! My hat is off to Daniel Arthur Smith and I look forward to more of his work!

Beautiful Storytelling

From the touching relationship of two young girls to the fate of literature in a world not too far removed from ours, this novella explores much in its brief duration. The narrator brings to life a vivid world on the precipice, and her characterizations are so evocative you can picture the individuals in your mind's eye. What a treat!

No, I only listen to audio books once, but wow, this one grabbed me right from the get go.

No one moment, frankly. This offering unfolds over time and becomes something of a tangled blanket, with enough folds and nuances to be memorable on an ongoing basis.

There are some touching moments at the end that are memorable. Can't say too much, as it would be a spoiler.

I received my copy of this audio book in exchange for this review. That said, this review is very positive for good reason...this is a VERY unique, short, fascinating and well-crafted story. Characters are well drawn, and everyone is in the story for a reason. I enjoyed this book for the craftsmanship as much as anything.

Well worth a credit and a listen.

Awesome Series!

I absolutely loved this series. The characters were all well written and, quite honestly, the only time I stopped reading was when my Kindle died. Would greatly recommend this series!

Comedic genius!

Frank's life is a slapstick tragedy, a comedy of terror, if you will. In Marquitz's usual style, the plot twists in uncomfortable ways, leaving you guessing at the grand plan until the very end, then leaving you wanting more! Levine has outdone himself with the voices of these characters. Ive listened to several books he's narrated, and I really think he's in his element in this series!

I would rate this 6 stars if I could!

I am a big fan of this series, and each book keeps getting better and better. Full of snark, wit, action and characters you can really get behind, especially as the bullets fly, you can't go wrong with this series! This book has it all. Zombies, Necromancers, Demons, Angels, 2 different anti-christs and the first woman in creation! What more can you ask for? A huge conspiracy is at play, all to bring about the resurrection in the title. I wont ruin it, but you wont see the twist coming until the last second. Through it all, Frank Trigg, the Devils favorite nephew, struggles to keep his head above water as events spiral out of control. Full of fast paced action, the story never lags, and the authors writing is as sharp as ever, with some literal burst out laughing funny moments! As I write this, i am half way through book 4, and this book is setting up the later books perfectly, building the characters and setting along the way. Any fan of urban fantasy will enjoy this book. Noah Levine is a revelation as a narrator. He really brings the characters to life! He even does something unique in my experience. At the end of each chapter, he reads off the next chapter name in the tone set by the last scene, whether frustrated, angry, happy, Drunk!, or exasperated. I have listened to lots of audio books, but he is the only narrator i have heard that does that, and it's a cool little touch. I can't wait to get back to listening!

Good

This is good but falls just short of being great. Trigg does does a lot of running his mouth and shooting. There is a lot of backstabbing and I had to restart the story just to follow the characters to see who was playing for what team. That is why I did not give it a higher rating. You have to read the first book to understand the characters' relationships.

Very Enjoyable Series

I didn't have great expectations as I started this trilogy, but found myself drawn into the story very quickly. These books are great for teen-agers and more mature readers who don't like unnecessary sex scenes, violence, or swearing, but enjoy action and adventure with a sci-Fi basis and a touch of romance. I feel that each book got better than the last, and there were some real surprises thrown in that made the story unpredictable but even more believable since real life does not always have happy endings. I really enjoyed the series and should the author decide to continue the story of the characters in their new setting, I'd love to read it too.

Awesome

This and the other 2 books in the series awesome. When I first started reading the first book I thought it was good and more than I expected that 11, 12 and 13 year olds could be so resourceful, but before that book was over and this book as well as the third it was edge of your seat stuff. It turn out to be one of the best series I've ever read .

Good interesting read

I enjoyed the characters, and the variety of viewpoints, as well as the consideration of people making their own choices.

Ok.. but I expected a but more to the overall ending.

While I enjoyed the series as a whole, I do feel as though the end could have used the 5-year epilogue just to tie things down besides just "walking off a space ship & feeling the breeze on my face" ending we got. Now don't get me wrong, there were a lot of twists and turns and even some parts just seemed a bit over explained. I just could of used that, we made it & built this ending...
