As a ghost, she can do nothing but will him to live. Yet in an unforgettable moment of connection, she helps him survive.

    Enjoyable, Entertaining
I enjoyed this story, and found it engrossing and entertaining while I listened. It is pretty well written, and I would spend more time with these characters if given the choice, (at least the main characters). The narration is good, and to my ears seemed appropro of the characters and the story.
    Great cover, great name
It's for the 14-15 year old set. I had to smile when the main boy character gets miffed when ghost girlfriend dematerializes inconveniently. The characters were not poorly drawn, really, if a little two dimensional. The story itself read like a dream, though.
    Ghostly Love Story
Amelia is dead, and every night relives her tragic drowning. Only this time, its different. She isnt drowning, a boy is, and there is nothing she can do about it.
I thought this one was a sweet love story. Because of course, she saves the boy. The other players in the story, a well-meaning grandmother, and another ghost, kept things interesting as they struggle to figure out who Amelia was(because she has little to no memory of who she was before she died), and how to make an impossible relationship work.
I am looking forward to the sequel, and seeing where it takes Amelia and Joshua, and the unlikely love between a ghost and a human.
    more of a teen read
it was okay the book was unusual and hard to get through. I think if I had been younger I may have enjoyed it more.
Struggling to listen to the Narrator
What made the experience of listening to Hereafter the most enjoyable?
I'm enjoying the premise of the story, but the whiney, 'like, oh my god, like, whatever' kind of pseudo teenager voice that the narrator uses is really making it hard to actually listen.
Would you be willing to try another one of Emily Eidens performances?
Not if her voice is naturally like the one used in this book. She even has the same whiney voice for the male characters in the book. Ironically, there are sections of narration where the whine does not exist, so why its switched on so heavily for 90% of the story, god only knows.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I'm still listening, so can't give a full review, and I'm not sure that I'll be able to listen much longer, so might have to switch to the kindle version.

    Pass on this series
This series is more teenie appropriate. The characters are whinnying about high school issues and mulling over the ???right thing??? to do for pages. I love Kim Harrison???s Hollows series. I thought this would be just as good. I was wrong. She must have written this because she need fast cash and was counting on her name recognition to sell it. The sad part was I purchase the series because of her name and it was a waste of money and time.
If you want a series where a young high school girl moons over a boy who did not notice her when she was alive and she is now dead buy it. If you want a series where her fate is to be the death angle and she does not like her job while waiting she moons over her high school love buy it. And of course with high school stories she does get his attention and they fight the good fight together. yuch
    Fun and different
I enjoyed a different take on reapers. I love Kim Harrison and the Rachel Morgan series.

    Title: Betrayal
    Author: Gillian Shields
    Narrator: Emily Durante
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 34 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-05-10
    Publisher: HarperAudio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 24 votes
    Genres: Teens, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
    Publisher's Summary:
There are the small betrayals: the unkind word, the petty lies. And there are the betrayals that break hearts, destroy worlds, and turn the strong, sweet light of day into bitter dust.
When Evie Johnson started at Wyldcliffe Abbey School for Young Ladies, her life changed in ways she couldn't possibly have envisioned: the discovery of her link with Lady Agnes, her special bond with Helen and Sarah, and their sisterhood in the astonishing secrets of the Mystic Way. Above all, Evie's love for Sebastian has turned her world upside down.
Now Evie returns to Wyldcliffe for another term and more danger. Surrounded by enemies, she lives every day in fear that Sebastian will fall into the darkness of servitude to the Unconquered Lords. The Wyldcliffe coven is plotting to destroy Evie and use Sebastian to secure their own immortality. Evie and her sisters must master the power of the Talisman before it is too late. But could it be Sebastian himself who will ultimately betray Evie?
In this companion to Gillian Shields's dazzling Immortal, magic and sweeping romance cross the bounds of time to deliver heart-stopping emotion and suspense.
    Members Reviews:
    A decent sequel
The sequel to "Immortal" is interesting, but not quite as good as the first book in the series. "Betrayal" picks up where "Immortal" leaves off, but the mystery of the Mystic Way and Lady Agnes were, for the most part, all discovered in the last installment. I hoped the author would find a way to keep the mystery going, but there wasn't much new to discover.
Evie has grown as a character, which is a plus. Her interaction with her friends isn't as...abundant as it was in the previous book. Helen and Sarah are supportive, but they seem to be preoccupied with their own concerns. Yes, they are still part of the Mystic Way and help Evie, but they aren't as exciting as they were before. The character of Harriet wasn't as developed as she could have been. In the end, Harriet was a nuisance.
As for Sebastian...well, I thought the so-called romance was a bit lacking in "Immortal", but I found this book had absolutely no romance at all! I mean, I wanted Sebastian to be more of a hero to Evie. I wanted him to man-up and fight with Evie. Instead, all he seems to do is hide and whine about what a poor fate he has landed for himself. He does choose Evie's talisman over the supposed love he shares with Evie, which really rubbed me the wrong way. How could Evie and Sebastian have an "epic" love if Sebastian really doesn't do anything to earn Evie's passions? In fact, it is Evie driving herself up the wall trying to save Sebastian, which really got under my skin. I know it's the 21st century, but Sebastian is a ghost from a time when chivalry meant something. Right? So, shouldn't he be going crazy trying to find a way to save Evie from the dark coven instead of complaining about his own bad choices? Isn't love about self-sacrafice? Evie seems to be the only one fighting for this so-called "love".
I did like "Betrayal", but not as much as "Immortal". I do hope Ms. Shields continues the series because she has something special in the character of Evie Johnson.

    Great Sequel, and Great Narrator.
This book is a great sequel to the first boo Need. The narrator does a great job with the voices and fits the main charactor. I am not a young adult, but I read the YA books before allowing my 12 year old daughter to read them. I thought the book was a great read, and my daughter loved it.
    Loved it!
This series is one of my favorites and I have listened to it several times. The story draws you in and has you wanting to fall in love all over again. Julia Whelan does a great job telling the story and the voices of the characters. At the end you won't be able to wait to start the third book.
    Crappy
What would have made Captivate better?
This book sucks. It is really difficult to get through, and the narrator is NOT helping! Perhaps with better narration, this book would be passable, but I honestly regret wasting my credit on this and the third book.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Julia Whelan?
    Emily Eiden; Therese Plummer
    Alright book, but not excellent.
I wish there was more complexity to the characters and the story in this series. I enjoy it, but the characters tend to get on my nerves with the things that they do. While it isnt that they go out of character, it is that they are too simple sometimes, they do the predictably stupid things that you know they will, and they dont have a lot of depth. That being said, I do enjoy the mythological aspect. I find the series aimed more toward a younger audience than most YA books that I read more middle grade than high school, perhaps. I am still looking forward to the next in the series though.
It was a very light, easy book so it was easy to listen to, though the voice was a little too annoying to listen for long periods.
    Brilliant sequel!
Captivate is book 2 of the Need Pixies series by Carrie Jones. Those of you who have read Need will be familiar with the main characters, and Captivate introduces us to two new characters, Casserdy and Astly. The danger and suspense creep up several notches in this book, but Carrie Jones's trademark witty style, the reason I first fell in love with this series, remains just the same. I couldn't stop listening, and it is read by the same narrator, which is an added bonus. The cliffhanger ending will leave listeners begging for the sequel. A word of advice though, you might want to keep a box of tissues handy. Absolutely brilliant!

    Cute story!
This was a cute vampire story and I was intrigued enough to buy the next in the series, "Still Sucks.....". Different from your normal vampire book, no bloody feedings etc., just a girl in High School trying to deal with everyday teen issues when the parental units drop the bomb. To be.....or not to be a vampire. Like she doesn't have enough junk in her life, Mina must make the big choice. Had a few good one liners and was funny at times. Hope you enjoy it too.
    for teenagers
I can enjoy a lot of teen books, but this one was a bit too simple for me i need a bit more plot to hold my interest The narrator did a good job
    A great find
I had seen this book numerous times on Audible but was always put off by the cover.
I decided to give it a go as a love Nancy Wu as a Narrater.
I am so pleased I did. A new very amusing take on vampires and their families and friends. I am 40 plus and whilst I am sure itt was initally aimed at a younger audiance I loved it and the follow up novel.
A lot of sass and real belly laughs. I very rarely laugh out loud but this had me turning many a head on the morning tube journey

    The Passion
This is the final book in L. J. Smith's Dark Vision Trilogy. Gabriel Wolf has forsaken his friends and walked back into the waiting arms of the man he once counted his enemy. If she is to save him from himself, Caitlin must do the same. Time is running out if she, Rob, Louis and Anna are to destroy the crystal. This is the most intense book of the trilogy. As Caitlin's position becomes more precarious by the day, her relationship with Gabriel is also poised on a knife edge. Which way will he jump? A great end to a great trilogy.

    Members Reviews:
An enthralling conclusion to a great saga.
We held our breath and waited to see if this book could match the high standards of those which preceded it. It was worth the wait, and yes it does come up to standard! As beautifully crafted as before, and impeccably read by Ian McKellen, this is an extremely fitting conclusion to the series.
Torak, Renn, & Wolf find themselves in terrible danger from the remaining Soul-Eater. his tokoroths and the deep magic which the Eagle Owl mage commands. All the clans are threatened, and Torak finds himself fearful to even enter his beloved forest. Dark Fur and Pebble too play their parts and in the end all must make a decision, for as Wolf knows 'No wolf can belong to two packs'.
The final outcome is not without sacrifice on all sides but provides perhaps the most rewarding conclusion to what has become a truly classical piece of writing. The six books stand shoulder to shoulder with other recent classics, including Philip Pullman's much lauded 'Dark Materials' trilogy.
Generations of children will read this series, or listen to Ian's spectacular readings and will be drawn into Torak's world. For this is a world which we can believe, smell and touch, and serves as a reminder to all of us that if we kill our forests, mountains, rivers and lakes, our world too will be consumed by demons.
Thank-you Michelle. Your switch from lawyer to story teller was well worth it!
    Just brilliant
One of the best book series I have read and just a perfect ending. Loved it
A fabulous end to a fabulous series
This is the stunning conclusion to Michelle Paver's immensely popular Chronicles Of Ancient Darkness series. As Torak prepares for the final battle his destiny has been leading him towards, Wolf deals with personal grief and Ren, too, must decide where her own destiny lies; with her clan or with Torak. As with all the others, Ghost Hunter is powerful, with beautiful descriptions and completes this spellbinding series. My only regret is that this amazing epic has drawn to a close. I think we can expect more great work from this author in the future.
    wonderful
I have enjoyed following this series. Wonderful story and wonderfully presented. Couldn't stop listening. Thanks
    sad it's over!

    Great narrator.
Story is great, easy to grasp without anything being obvious what's to happen next.
    Amazing!!!
Put me on the edge of my seat once again. The story always make me think how cool would it be if it was all real!?
A great read for all ages.
One of the children in my class urged me to read the Skulduggery Pleasant books and after much persuading I gave in and my only regret is that I only get two credits a month!
This is the third in the series and sees a continuation of the arc begun in book one. We see all of the characters evolve and the writing remains engaging and surprising in some cases. I was convinced I knew who the villain was only to be surprised by the final reveal.
    The narration is superb.
    Reignited interest in Series
Bought this for son who had enjoyed reading first, but drifted off half way through second book. He loved it and has now read the two subsequent books himself!

    Publisher's Summary:
A fantasy lover's dream, this thrilling conclusion to the Faerie Wars Chronicles is a tale of passion, bravery, and intrigue. Narrator James Daniel Wilson perfectly voices this thrilling clash between good and evil.
    Members Reviews:
I want to like it, I really do.
I really liked the first two books in the series, but the last two seemed scattered and inconsistent. The underlying stories were still good, but the character development made it seem as though I was listening to a whole new story rather than one with previously established history. Also, Brennan continues to expand the realms, but they don't seem to fit coherently or smoothly with already existing realms... it's as if a great apartheid exists in the faerie world... but it comes off feeling more like a mere plot gimmick of convenience.
Worst of all is the narrator. Contrary to the claim, James Daniel Wilson does not perfectly voice this thrilling clash between good and evil. His character acting would be good, but he overembelishes them to the point of losing the heart of the character. i.e. Mr Fogarty sounds like a menacing old man, rather than the kind, yet grumpy, wise gatekeeper that he is. That mere mild criticism could be overlooked if it was the only issue. But In Mr Wilson attempts to over-act the character readings, he forgets that the author and his personal narrative is also a key character to be presented. Mr Wilson fails to ever provide the mood of the environment or situation when reading the descriptive, non-speaking aspects of the novel. You never get the feeling of whether you're in the palacial palace or a murderous dungeon. Mr Wilson's narration of these aspects are always pleasantly neutral--do not confuse that with monotone or boring--just neutral in a simple matter-of-fact manner.
Mr Wilson has potential, but he simply needs to keep in mind that the Novel itself is a character that needs life breathed into it as much as any one of the characters within the book. He's supposed to be Telling-the-Story, not merely reading the course of events. It's a novel, not a stage script.
