Athlete's heart is accompanied by relevant remodelling of the left ventricle (LV), with different degrees of adaptation depending on the body composition, type and level of training, years of sports practice, and period of the competitive season. Exercise- induced cardiac remodelling is accompanied by an increase in chamber size, wall thickness and LVM. This is very similar to cardiac patients with LV hypertrophy. There are some clinical tools that can we use to distinguish between an athlete's heart and a heart with hypertrophy due to hypertensive heart disease.
