Little House on the Prairie 50th Anniversary Podcast

Happy Thanksgiving! The gang couldn’t be more excited to share this special day with you. Today, and every day, we are deeply thankful for supporters like you, our Bonnethead family, who allow us to connect and continue the bond that started with Michael Landon in 1974.

We’re thrilled to welcome Kathi Von Etten, head of the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce, who joins us to reflect on her "year of the Prairie" and share exciting news about the final Little House Bus Tour (say it ain’t so!) happening Sunday, December 1, with Dean and Alison as your guides. And for the collectors out there, don’t miss out on the exclusive Simi Valley Festival Little House 50th Anniversary merchandise—it's selling fast! Head over to the Simi Valley website (link also in the show notes) to grab your special edition items before they’re gone.

We felt it was fitting to have today’s guest on Thanksgiving, as we are deeply inspired by her gratitude and grace—Baby Rose Wilder herself, Jennifer Donati. Jennifer shares with us how, at just seven weeks old, she and her twin sister were cast as Baby Rose in Little House on the Prairie. Though she has no memories of that experience, Jennifer was reunited with her Little House family a couple of years ago, and as she says, "life has never been the same." This adult reunion sparked her to finally write the book she had always dreamed of: More Than Just the Prairie. In it, Jennifer opens up about the personal hardships she has faced, including the loss of her twin sister, Sarah, and her beloved mother. Her story is one of resilience, strength, and gratitude, offering a powerful example of overcoming tragedy with grace. Oh, and by the way—she is also a badass!

Continue the conversation with us on Patreon, where gratitude is at the heart of the discussion. This Thanksgiving, Pamela, Dean, Alison, and Jennifer share what they're thankful for, including Alison's story of meeting her newly discovered relatives in Ireland. They also explore how gratitude is the highest vibrational force. With so much to be thankful for, Little House on the Prairie is at the core of many of these blessings. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone—we hope you enjoy this heartfelt segment.

A SPECIAL NOTE ON THIS THANKSGIVING: Little House on the Prairie is at the heart of what so many are most grateful for, not just because of the timeless stories it told, but because of the lasting impact it has had on all of us. The show brought families together, fostering a sense of community and shared values that transcend generations. It taught us about resilience, love, and the importance of finding gratitude even in the most challenging times. For many of us, Little House was more than just entertainment—it was a source of comfort, inspiration, and connection to a simpler, yet deeply meaningful way of life. It has shaped how we view family, community, and the world around us, and continues to remind us to appreciate the little things in life. Today, as we gather with loved ones, let us remember these values as a country, a community, as human beings.

Today is a special day here on the Pod--because Pamela is taking the back seat as host, and Alison and Dean are interviewing HER today!
If you've been wondering who Pamela Bob is, and her connection to Alison, Dean, and the entire Little House family, it is all explained today.
Find out about Pamela's background, her love of Little House, and her bizarre and fateful story of meeting Alison. Then, hear about how the idea and creation of her award-winning series, Livin' On a Prairie came to be. Alison and Pamela talk about their experience filming the show, the wonder of Charlotte Stewart, and how Michael Landon played a major part in the spirit of the series.
Please check out Livin' On a Prairie, like and subscribe -- and enjoy! It's truly a Bonnethead's dream, made with love, humor, and sincerity.
Pamela's next show that she has co-written and will also appear in is The Twisted Christmas Show, premiering in NYC's The Green Room on 12/4, 12/6 and 12/7. Any support is greatly appreciated, and contributions to the Kickstarter has some great incentives. All other info is listed in the show notes below.

Then- Continue the conversation on Patreon, where we talk more about a special date:  Oct. 31st -- Michael Landon's birthday. Alison reads an emotional passage from the program from Michael's funeral, and we discuss the disbelief of losing one so vital and full of life. Also, hear the fascinating parallels between Michael Landon and Jim Henson with an unbelievable story from Alison.

We start today's episode with a recognition of all the supportive and kind feedback we received from last week's episode, "The Elephant In the Room". We love you and appreciate you, Bonnetheads! And speaking of kindness, this was the perfect segway to discuss a beloved member of the Little House family that is no longer with us:  The late, great, Dabbs Greer, who we all know as the kind, gentle, and honest Reverend Alden.Hear first hand stories about Dabbs from Alison and Dean, and hear the answer when Pamela asks the burning question for Bonnetheads everywhere--"what happened to Rev. Alden's wife?!" Although he was on Little House for almost a decade, Dabbs had a long and thriving career--before and after Little House. It is a joy to keep the appreciation and love for Dabbs alive, and we celebrate him today!
And how else to end the episode but answer some of YOUR listener questions?!

Today’s episode addresses the Elephant in the Room:  The recent scandals involving Jack Bishop and his Gravel Road Market events. Dean, Alison, and Pamela felt it necessary to address this out of respect for the fans and everyone involved who have been affected. We discuss the history with Jack Bishop, the status of Little House fan events, the recent happenings involving Jack Bishop’s Gravel Road Market and what were supposed to be cancelled events. Sadly, the cast has had to address further grievances, with more public awareness including an article in People Magazine and a piece on NBC News’s Connecticut affiliate (both linked in the show notes below).  After the shocking mishandling of the Connecticut and Lancaster events, we discuss the impact, the aftermath, how the amazing fans have galvanized, and the hopes for what’s ahead in the Little House events universe (it’s gonna be GREAT!).  On a lighter note, check out our feature in Buzzfeed! Alison and Dean were featured this week in a great interview, which also featured the Podcast! (Link below)  And how else to end the episode but answer some of YOUR listener questions?!
THEN Join us on Patreon, where we get loose and talk about… oh… anything! Pamela discusses her recent experience in a developmental workshop of a new musical in NYC and her upcoming show “Twisted Christmas”, premiering at Green Room 42 in NYC on December 3,5 and 6th.  Alison is coming to us from Paris, where she’s doing tons of shows before she heads to Ireland to do speaking engagements!  And Dean is giving us hints at possible UK/European/Japan Little House events… (What?! Yeah!!!)

It's finally Sweater-Weather season! Alison and Dean recap last week's live screening of "Country Girls" in Simi Valley, where people arrived in full Prairie drag, reminiscent of the Rocky Horror Picture Show... (good idea, am I right?!)  They were joined by this week's guest, who also premiered in "Country Girls"--the incredible Tracie Savage, who played Christy Kennedy in the first 2 seasons of LHOTP.

Tracie hadn't seen the cast in 48 years until she joined them at the 50th Anniversary festival in Simi Valley this past March! Fun fact: Tracie came from an entertainment family, and was the one child up against Melissa Gilbert for the role of Laura Ingalls. But she isn't bitter -- because she went on to have an incredible career in entertainment, (notably having a great death scene in the infamous Friday the 13rh franchise) and then found her calling in broadcast journalism, landing in Los Angeles, covering history-making stories such as the OJ Simpson trial. Speaking of OJ, Tracie tells a harrowing and riveting story of her experience having had to testify at the trial--and we are shook!  Currently, Tracie is a college professor, where she feels the most gratified. Tracie is seriously awesome, you will love her story--and we are so happy that she a part of the Little House family.
Then, Alison answers some of your listener questions, specifically for Nellie Season 1!

On September 18, 1974 a cultural phenomenon came forth unto the world: The Birth of the Prairie Bitch. That's right, Alison Arngrim premiered as Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie, and our worlds have never been the same. We discuss the episode "Country Girls" and the role Alison was born to play. Did you know that Alison first auditioned for the role of Laura?! Hear about her infamous audition story, her deep understanding of the character, and how she was always drawn to villain characters. Find out how being bullied in real life lent itself to her channeling the nastiness of Nellie Oleson, and how her "prairie drag" helped to transform her into the role.
The immediate connection felt between Alison and Melissa Gilbert allowed them to achieve one of the all-time greatest TV rivalries and how the enjoyment of the kill is comparable to Alison's hero, Hannibal Lecter!

Alison's experience of being the most hated person to one of the most beloved people is nothing short of amazing, as is Alison's embracing of the character and her place in TV history--and all of our hearts--as our favorite Prairie Bitch.

As Alison so perfectly says it: "BEAUTY IS FLEETING--VILLAINY IS FOREVER"

Then join us on Patreon for another fun segment! This week...Dean gets a surprise from Alison that may or may not involve an iconic song, a jacket and tie, and Gary Coleman just may be a part of the conversation. Intrigued? Join us! Link below!
