  • Book Week: The Wisdom of The Four Agreements

Send Kelly a text when you click here, or stop by Kellytibbitts.com

On this week's episode, I share how I've been trying to apply the lessons from the book The Four Agreements to regulate my nervous system to stay in aligned energy.

As a way to remember the agreements, I am using  four words integrity, immunity , knowing, and excellence.

    Main points:

    • Integrity - I like to think of integrity as a straight line - and on either side of it are the values that drive my decisions.
    • Immunity - don’t take things personally. Not taking anything personally for me looks like allowing the people in my life to think any thought, feel any feeling and do anything.
    • Knowing - There's a difference between knowing and assuming. How do we stop making assumptions? Stop to notice. Ask clarifying questions.
    • Excellence - Always do your best with the time & energy limits you have in each present moment. This can change dramatically and only you know what “your best” is from moment to moment, day to day.
      • Sometimes “doing your best” is literally laying down and simply breathing in and breathing out.

  • Holiday Power Thoughts

Send Kelly a text when you click here, or stop by Kellytibbitts.com

I've heard many people say thoughts like “I can't wait for the holiday to be over."

Are you one of them?  Is that what you WANT to be thinking on repeat?

Did you know that it’s optional to have any thoughton repeat?

Our thoughts have a significant impact on our feelings and actions AND shape our experiences.  Deciding in advance what power thought YOU want driving all of your feelings, decisions, and actions this holiday season can truly transform the season for you.

It’s a practice that can serve you all year long!

    Main points:

    • Notice your expectations that are driving your feelings and behavior- bring them to the light.  Some you may not even have been aware of!
    • Notice what thoughts you’ve been having on repeat about the holiday season (maybe even unconsciously).
    • Resist trying to change other people’s thoughts, feelings, or actions.  You have zero agency there. You are only in charge of YOURS.
    • Decide new power thoughts to replace unhelpful or unrealistic expectations and thoughts.
    • Choose one to start practicing using, and repeat it as many times as necessary until it becomes an automatic thought that serves you well, moving you towards the feelings and actions you desire for your holiday season and your whole life.

  • The Journey from Weary to Vibrant

Send Kelly a text when you click here, or stop by Kellytibbitts.com

Have you ever heard the phrase “don’t get tired of doing good”? (It’s from the Bible) Taken out of context, it is often misinterpreted as a call  to not take care of yourself and to put others first at all costs.

That used to be me, too.  However I’ve learned how to live out this verse in a way that doesn’t lead me to depletion, resentment, or burnout.

You CAN take good care of yourself and also serve others if you shift your mindset away from giving to others endlessly at your own expense.   There is another way. You actually can do a better job at “doing good” and giving to others if you prioritize your own well being and become the best, healthiest, most vibrant version of yourself.

Take a listen and learn some basic small steps that can move you in that direction.

    Main points:

    • Create a system of decision making that allows you to say best the “yeses and nos” for you.
    • Practice leaning into our own inner wisdom to know what you need more or less of, to know when you need to rest, to know how to align your own energy, etc.
    • Decide that you are no longer going to grow weary doing things that are not yours to do.
    • Resist doing for people what they can and should do for themselves.
    • Keep your practice steps small enough that you can keep doing them on a regular basis.

  • Decision Protocol

Setting up systems to align thoughts, feelings, and actions can lead to desired outcomes - it’s improved my life dramatically. This takes work and time, but is well worth it!  Creating a Decision Protocol has been a critical tool in my personal toolbox.

    Main points:

    • Work to understand yourself as you truly are- it is a fundamental starting point for any efforts in self improvement.
    • Create a Decision Protocol to guide all your decision making. .
    • Identify question that you can ask yourself when making decisions, such as:
      • Is this important to me?
      • What do I want? Why do I want it?
      • Will it save me time, energy, money?
      • Will this help me relationally?
      • What does aligned energy look like for me?
      • Is there anything I would like to do differently?
      • What do I want to say no to?
    • Make time to look back at previous decisions and notice what worked, what didn't work, and what you would do differently.

  • Steer Your Calendar “Ship” in a Different Direction

Send Kelly a text when you click here, or stop by Kellytibbitts.com

Taking the time to think about how to match your time and your energy can make all the difference in reaching your goals and achieving the results you seek for your life. What’s truly important should show up on your calendar. On the face of it, that seems SO obvious.

But are you really doing that in reality?  How often do the things that are truly important TO YOU get procrastinated or pushed out completely? How often do you put together your to do list without prioritizing or without considering your available time and energy?  And then berate yourself for not “getting it all done”? Take a listen and learn how to steer your calendar “ship” in a different direction.

    Main points:

    • Make a chart of time, task, and thoughts for the major tasks in your life.
    • Use the three main categories of priorities: self care, responsibilities, relationships to sort the tasks.
    • Use your available energy - not imaginary energy, when creating your calendar.
    • Make sure there's a balance over the course of a month.
    • Consider what can be delegated, eliminated or modified.
    • Try to make these decisions with compassion for your future self.
