There’s a lot of toxic masculinity within this whole universe because it’s Cars… it’s a movie stereotypically for dudes. Racing is a big boys club. And looking at Radiator Springs, it's mostly all men. Is this indicative of the whole universe?

Engineering (or breeding depending on your theology) Cars to be faster than the old models is a big arch of Cars 3. This raises a lot of questions - are there gender differences in athleticism? NASCAR is the only sport not divided by gender in the real world.

Are there sports besides racing? Can they swim? Biathlon? Can they bike? Is there testosterone?

Ms. Fritter is totally breaking the stereotype as an aggressive school bus. She’s breaking the barriers of what you stereotypically think more female cars look like. Cruz Ramirez too has a whole different character development line. She’s strong and mature. There’s also still vanity and expectation of looks within all the cars… Sally and Ramone for instance.

However, Lighting McQueen makes the same mistakes in every movie, then bounces back from them with this toxic masculinity vibe. What morals are being taught with lightning’s behavior? When is this Car going to learn??

Doc Hudson is the only mention of car death in the car universe (besides Stanley, the statue in Radiator Springs, who is a very old Car). In this episode, we accelerate deep into the backstory of Doc Hudson and look at some very important questions, including that Cars video games are a critical part of the Cars universe.

After Paul Newman’s death before Cars 2, Doc Hudson disappears from the movies, leaving many questions about his backstory. In the Cars video games, we meet some essential characters to help flesh out the Doc Hudson story. We discover he has a son named Charles Hudson who was born in 1941. Doc was born in 1930, making him 11 years old when he had a child. We’ll let you wrestle with that one for a bit.

“Lightning McQueen has the same character arc in every movie. Doc has some serious trauma to overcome. He has some real emotional strength and interest in most of the characters in the trilogy. And he’s only in one of the movies.”
