  • 254: Selfless vs Selfish, Chasing Dreams and Healthy Lifestyle Balance
Are you Chasing Your Dreams? Listen in to learn some value around committing to a Healthy Lifestyle Balance and much more!

Aimee J., the host of the Chasing Dreams Podcast, has a unique background that enables her to speak from a perspective rarely seen in others. What began as a career in computer engineering, soon made its way into law, and ultimately, it ended up in contract management. However, Aimee’s deep love for pop culture and desire to help others finally found a way to merge into the form of podcasting and public speaking.

Quote: I would rather regret the things that I have done than the things that I have not." - Lucille Ball

With the firm belief that everyone should live without regrets, Aimee set out to inspire people to make moves, take chances, and chase their dreams. To achieve this, Aimee created the Chasing Dreams Podcast, which highlights people each week who have achieved their dreams by taking chances and delves into how the lessons learned by guests can be applied by anyone listening. There are currently over 150 episodes available, and it has been featured in the top 20 for New and Noteworthy podcasts for Business, Society & Culture, even reaching #1 in Personal Journals.

    • [spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction
    • [spp-timestamp time="10:30"] There's something about being in an energy zone, though, that makes you feel like you can do anything.
    • [spp-timestamp time="15:40"] I do see that's an excellent segway, so that's an extra talking point about flow state. That was an external thing that impacted you. You have to allow the love for the grace.
    • [spp-timestamp time="23:20"] Shout out to the blind blogger himself, Maxwell Ivy. He called me out on a post I posted from the hospital. Max basically said, I know you're the health and fitness guy, but I think this is a great example of how you might not have been listening or paying attention to your body.
    • [spp-timestamp time="30:00"] We're not giving our audiences and our listeners enough credit. They would probably say, hey, help yourself first. Let's become Selfless and not selfish.
    • [spp-timestamp time="40:00"] Entrepreneurs are influencers who work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, right? That's what they need to do. I don't recommend it for everybody. There was an influencer recently on the Chasing Dreams Podcast. After blogging daily, four or five months ago, she did a special post and called it quits. She took a break because her mental health was suffering from that level of dedication.
    • [spp-timestamp time="57:45"] If you change your perspective every now and then, you'll find that if you change your perspective, you change your life.

    Top 3 Hot Points:
    1. Break Your Bad Habits.
    2. Train New Good Habits.
    3. Add A Bet!

    Final Words:

The secret is to add non-shareable accountability and a negative reinforcer in order to complete the massive shift in your behavior. It really only takes a day. It only took me a second once I made the most powerful bet I ever made which was my assistant Caleb.

I made a bet that before I went to bed I would write down three things I would do tomorrow and that the bet would auto recur forever. Once I made that one bet, my life has completely changed.

I'm not saying you should start off with a humongous bet, there is power in auto-recurring and we can talk about that another time. There is so much power of just a small bet with a friend, PLEASE if you're listening to this, do it try it out. Then, shoot me, Maneesh, an email with exactly what happened and I'll do a giveaway! On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction
    • [spp-timestamp time="07:40"] I've noticed more and more that receivers are people like me, they have better peripheral vision. Whereas people who are focused, have to have things waved in their face to get their attention.
    • [spp-timestamp time="14:00"] There's a circadian rhythm, which is your hormonal balances. You know very well that human beings are not designed to be awake at 11 pm, yet somehow with the invention of light bulbs, we are. Therefore, there are things that can change and psychology is not owned by hormones. Psychology is in the moment and hormones are in balance. Circadian rhythms are a long term thing.
    • [spp-timestamp time="10:40"] When we first launched, it was going to be about a forming good habits product. Rapidly, we discovered that our product was the best in the world bar none for breaking BAD habits. We approach the problem of bad habits in a very fundamentally different way.
    • [spp-timestamp time="20:30"] It's about having somebody else be their boss, or in this case, their accountability buddy. For me, as the CEO of a habit change company and a CEO with pretty bad habits, I was spending a lot of my time dilly-dallying and wasting time on Facebook, chatting on messenger, etc. I really needed a boss. So when I first started a company, the idea came because I hired a girl to sit down next to me and SLAP me in the face every time I wasted time.
    • [spp-timestamp time="31:00"] We have two programs. One is a habit coaching, and one is entrepreneurial coaching. We basically bring you to work with our coach, they do exactly what I just told you and make sure you get stuff done. The second thing we have is habit coaching. We support coaches, so we help you with either a specific habit or simply helping establish good life coaching and good habits in general.
    • [spp-timestamp time="36:00"] I need this help too, as much as everybody. I'm very open about my own problems around my qualms and I often share my own computer usage, or my rescue time scores and all that stuff.

[spp-tweet tweet="Pro Body Builder, Doctor, and Transforming Your Life! You Too Can LIVETHEFUEL! @MimiSecor "]

    Top 3 Hot Points:
    1. Weightlifting is for all ages, especially over 50-60 years of age.
    2. Supporting LCHF, low carb, high fat, high protein for optimal health.
    3. Stop comparing yourself to everybody else.

    Final Words:

I think the all-encompassing message is never to give up on yourself, dig deep, be committed, and go find help from where Healthy People get help. That's why we're so excited about the online programs that we offer. Especially if you're older, don't give up on yourself.

That's why the title of my book is "Debut A New You, Transforming Your Life At Any Age". If you're really committed to making the change, we can help you but you got to be really committed to making a change. Have yourself ready and raring to go and then bust up those excuses.

On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction
    • [spp-timestamp time="04:45"] I'm a huge advocate for LCHF, low carb, high fat whether you want to call keto, ketogenic, etc. Just say high protein. There are so many variants of the high protein focus, but the whole key for most women is they can't deal with many carbs unless they happen to be the thin variants, that naturally thin variant without the hunger gene.
    • [spp-timestamp time="10:00"] Carbs are very fast acting. If you're doing an athletic event, then you're going to get a real quick response. You have a slower energy source if you're just relying on fats. So that's probably what you experienced on the hills.
    • [spp-timestamp time="15:30"] So I started weightlifting and being really careful with my eating at age 59. I'm 64 now. So almost five years ago, girl, I've got good guns now.
    • [spp-timestamp time="21:50"] The beauty of weightlifting and being conditioned is that it tightens the skin. I can't even explain the science behind it. It happens after women lose weight and men too. You often feel like a Shar-Pei dog, with skin hanging all over the place. If you just keep lifting weights, it tightens up, I didn't believe it at first too. That's what happened to my abdominal situation. I lost 12 inches and had all of this stuff hanging, we call that medicine that Panniculus. That all tightened up like a panel, that's a lower abdominal flap.
    • [spp-timestamp time="25:00"] We are so inundated with sugar, that we have numbed your palate. That's even the problem with diet sodas. They are not benign they're wiring your brain for sweetness, excessive sweetness. I just finally got rid of artificial sweeteners in the past year and it was a struggle. It was harder to give up then a lot of other things.
    • [spp-timestamp time="30:20"] I have a great publisher Trevor Crane, if you need help with the book publishing.
    • [spp-timestamp time="40:30"] Blue Blocker glasses and Dr. Jack Kruse.
    • [spp-timestamp time="46:55"] That's what we teach our women. It's just all about them and their journey. Not anybody else. Stop comparing yourself to everybody else.

  • 251: Working in Chiang Mai and Smart Brand Marketing
World Travel, Working Overseas, Chang Mai Life, Online Marketing and Podcasting with Tom Libelt:

TOM LIBELT learned from a young age how to sell and negotiate business by getting haggled by Russian vendors. His family moved from Poland to the US to escape communism, and his parents took any job they could to survive. Seeing all this as a young man motivated him to never want a job and keep moving forward as an entrepreneur, publisher, salesman, and one of the top Polish hip hop artists.

Tom spends most of his time in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He runs Smart Brand Marketing and We Market Online Courses. Tom seems like one of those guys with the Midas Touch, where everything he works on turns into gold. He has published around 5000 Kindle books, built a successful SEO & online course marketing business, partnered with a Muay Thai champion, owned a coffee shop, a retail store, a record label, created a documentary, and released two albums with five hits on top ten Polish radio. All of it was bootstrapped and done with zero outside funding.

    Quote:

“If you can’t sell, then you’re not in business. Marketing and Sales are the backbone of a company.” - Tom Libelt

[spp-tweet tweet="If You Don't Know How To Sell, You're Not In Business! You Too Can LIVETHEFUEL! @tomlibelt "]

    Top 3 Hot Points:
    1. Living and Working Abroad Is Affordable
    2. Smart Branding and Marketing Is Not Fast and Easy
    3. If You Don't Know How To Sell, You're Not In Business

    Final Words:

The only thing I always tell people in business, especially if they're not successful yet, is if you don't know how to sell, you're not in business. You must figure out what you're selling, and who you're selling to.

On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction
    • [spp-timestamp time="01:40"] Hip Hop, I didn't know that was the thing. I mean, obviously, hip hop exists everywhere. It's almost like the national music in Poland.
    • [spp-timestamp time="05:40"] I was independent, but I've worked at one of the bigger Studios. I got to meet my heroes, I met the Lost Boyz, Alicia Keys, and more!
    • [spp-timestamp time="11:00"] I have a good group of people with a lot of backbone, probably 150 people making good money. But I find that these wannabes, these ones, that are making $300 to $1,000 per month... There's a lot of that softness, vegan hippie, and goddesses walking around.
    • [spp-timestamp time="22:00"] Amazon controls some businesses completely. I had this stance on Walmart, just like you before, but a few years ago, I took a road trip from Chicago to Vegas. On the way, I stopped in at places that I would have never stopped otherwise. All because they were just on the way locally in a few of these towns.
    • [spp-timestamp time="30:40"] You know, we lost probably $20,000 four or five years ago.
    • [spp-timestamp time="40:50"] Pat Flynn, one of his favorite books is Essentialism. It's the same concept as John Lee Dumas. I've spoken with him as I've had him on the podcast. I've spoken with him at the World Domination Summit.
    • [spp-timestamp time="50:30"] There's a huge group in the online marketing space, of people who come in and try to get quick money. Then, they just can't make it and just disappear. Nothing against Click Funnels as it works for some people, but everybody's obsessed with Click Funnels right now. It doesn't promote a long term approach.
    • [spp-timestamp time="01:16:40"] This is the thing that you notice in any industry, anywhere in the world, someone like you that's had some knowledge is probably not going to start talking much. But the biggest idiot on the block that hasn't seen anything, always has an opinion.

    [spp-tweet tweet="You Too Can LIVETHEFUEL! @livethefuel "]

    Top 3 Hot Points:
    1. Nutrition: what you put in is what you get out.
    2. Rest and Recovery: your body and mind heal the most at night.
    3. Self-Care: be your own Inner Physician, take accountability for your health.

    Final Words:

My final public service announcement is if you know tall, lean athletes, don't scare them with this, but make sure they're aware of blebs and what a Spontaneous Pneumothorax. A partially collapsed lung is no joke. I did find out from a good friend of mine, that her son's girlfriend last year was finishing a softball tournament championship and the same exact injury happened to her because she was a tall, lanky, lean athlete.

Now granted, I'm 41, so they're not expecting this type of stuff. I guess that's the fun of me being a health and fitness junkie, is I could survive a lung collapse better than most but you can still get injured. So again, last part of the big picture message here. Take care of yourself. Focus on self-care, what you put in is what you get out regarding nutrition. It's important but also proper rest, and recovery, along with proper mindset, stress relief, and bringing the cortisol levels down.

I was pulling out all the stops and I'm still pulling out all the stops so I can bounce back as fast and as healthy as possible.

On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="02:00"] How the injury happened and what went down to trigger this 35% collapsed lung.
    • [spp-timestamp time="05:20"] During the holiday transition, the back rib was out of alignment, so I was not able to breathe properly. Especially during fitness activities. I got sent into a few occasional fits of aggressive coughing. Back in 2010 or 2011, I did the same thing while firefighting. I did see a chiropractor then and they put the rib back into alignment a few days later with none of this aftermath. I was fine, no major fits of coughing back then. So I never triggered the spontaneous pneumothorax aka the blebs that collapsed my lung.
    • [spp-timestamp time="10:00"] CrossFit community shoutouts to the #SYRArmy of SYR CrossFit and the #AdorationNation from CrossFit Adoration
    • [spp-timestamp time="16:00"] I just did yoga that Friday, January 18th, before going for the X-ray. I think I'm going to zip in, grab this X-ray and then go meet Dr. Megan Cannon Ph.D. because I was going to record a new podcast that we're going to air this month. So I think I'm just walking in walking out, grab an X-ray and they'll send it over to Dr. Robin Kaplan of East Penn Chiropractic.
    • [spp-timestamp time="20:10"] Scott passes the f*ck out?! I've never had this severe of an injury or trauma. I've had my shoulder rebuilt twice back in 1999 and again in 2007. That is all outpatient stuff. I've never been hospitalized.
    • [spp-timestamp time="29:55"] Surgery was Wednesday, January 23rd, scored a new chest tube that day to help the healing process. I also got to enjoy a breathing tube for surgery, not cool. The next 24 hours gave me a rough throat, scratchy, and thirsty as hell once they take that thing out. So Thursday was so much fun for day 1 of post-surgery recovery.
    • [spp-timestamp time="31:30"] Garbage Hospital Nutrition. I did eat the hospital food but it took some work. They tried serving me things like stuffed shells and french toast. I was like, dude, I'm here to heal and recover and get out healthy, I do not need inflammatory foods. I'm not here for you to make me feel rewarded, like when you're trying to give me dessert for breakfast. Sorry guys. French toast is death, stuffed shells are death. There is ZERO nutritional value in all of that stuff. Focus on what you FUEL your body with. What you put in is what you get out. I told them eggs and bacon every morning if you bring me lunch/dinner it is a clean protein with no sauces. I also had my fiance bringing my stuff in, I got bone broth rolling daily. The proof is all on Instagram @scottwmulvaney and @livethefuel

    Top 3 Hot Points:

    3. Attend the Growth Now Movement LIVE event.

    Final Words:

First of all, I appreciate you having me on your show. To everybody listening, the reality is this, wherever you are in life right now, that's exactly where you're supposed to be.

I think sometimes we often think we were supposed to be something different than we are. But we're not. You are exactly who you're supposed to be. You're exactly where you're supposed to be. If you want to make the future better, you have to make choices to get better, right? You have to take that first step towards growth, you have to take that first step towards the goal because you're not going to get that goal overnight!

All that matters is really the journey and so what I say to everybody is it doesn't matter where you come from, and it doesn't even matter where you are right now, what matters are the decisions you're making today to move forward. Whether that's going to live events, as we talked about, whether that's listening to this podcast. Whatever it is, you're making the right choice right now. So step forward into the person you're supposed to be!

On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction
    • [spp-timestamp time="06:00"] I knew I was just gonna throw myself to the wolves. I kind of do that to myself all the time. I started podcasting two and a half years ago and I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't do the proper amount of research.
    • [spp-timestamp time="10:00"] I might do a little bit more of that, like bringing people on to actually coach me because I'm very very coachable. I'm willing to learn and get better and I know I'm not the best.
    • [spp-timestamp time="14:30"] I tell everybody that comes to me and says, I want to start a show, so I ask them why. I want to grow an audience in Melbourne, for example. The first thing we need to realize is that 80% of these shows are doing less than 100 downloads an episode and that's okay.
    • [spp-timestamp time="20:00"] There are events out west that you could buy a ticket and get refunded when you get there like it's a reward to show up but if you don't show up, you don't your money back. I also know when companies do that they're going to then sell me something else. The cool part about my event is I'm not selling anything from the stage. It's literally come in and you'll make a big impact on your life. There are celebrity speakers like Fabio Viviani and Sarah Centrella. I feel blessed with the relationships that I've built that I can now give what I've been able to do over the last two and a half years to other people and make those connections.
    • [spp-timestamp time="25:00"] Just because you speak on stages, doesn't mean you can't learn from the other people speaking on stages. I speak all over the country, it's usually on podcasting, relationship building, or whatever. I go to more events than probably most people. What I do differently is actually take action afterward.
    • [spp-timestamp time="30:00"] Justin Kavanaugh is the business consultant and coach. The guy is known as a top-five speed and performance coach in the country. He trains guys to get ready for the NFL combine, top-five like that.
    • [spp-timestamp time="35:45"] This is what I say about Lewis Howes. He is the master of branding. His live event is what I'm modeling after because I really believe in finding the master or you find a master to follow their model. His LIVE event is bonkers, it's an amazing event it's game-changing. I've been there every year, he's high energy and it's high energy. Dude I watched him, if you want to talk about the business side of things, last year make $200,000 in an hour because he sold 1000 tickets for $200 each, live on stage within 20 minutes.
    • [spp-timestamp time="41:00"] Top five things to grow your audience. I think number two on the list is you have to get in front of podcasters. You do that by getting on shows and getting in front of the right audience.
    • [spp-timestamp time="46:30"] Even before Top Chef, Fabio became a millionaire and lost it all. Then he was building as well again. If you're a legit millionaire, that means you have legit meaning, you actually have a good head on your shoulders. You can always make it back.
    • [spp-timestamp time="52:44"] A question I get all the time and I don't alway's get the opportunity to ask other people, is where do you see podcasts going?
    • [spp-timestamp time="01:11:00"] That's why I'm holding my event in Reading, PA, just like my podcast is live, it gets played everywhere. I can have it in Philly or I can have it in New York City and sell more tickets doing that. However, I'm holding it in Reading because I want to make an impact here in Reading for the city.

    Final Words:

I think 2019 for me, as we discussed, was a year that I'm really committing to being very productive with my time. I mean one key factor from that learning from The Mastery Journal is setting up my morning routine. I guess that's really been lacking for me in the last year because I've kind of been I've jumped into this business. That was kind of my priority. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep, that was what I live, breathe, and slipped my business.

I did notice over time, that your energy levels aren't the highest. You are probably not getting that full round happiness that you want in the other aspects of life as well. So I think in 2019, if there's any kind of wisdom that I could leave you with or any kind of tips, I would reverse engineer what makes you happy. It's not just about work, it's got to incorporate your loved ones, your friends, your health things that mean a lot to you.

What does happiness look like for you and then work back from that because I think that's what's helped me with my morning routine and helps me be more productive with my time. I'd just be really pragmatic about that and be non-negotiable. These are things that I want to do in the morning for me, set your day up around you rather than being subject to other people's wants and needs and demand. So I think that's what I could leave you, it's really about figuring out what makes you happy and then work back from that.

On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction
    • [spp-timestamp time="07:25"] The Hump Day Crew and Rise Up Radio. I was also on LA Talk Radio for a brief stint. Then I started my own personal podcasting journey, I had three podcasts, The Monday, The Daily Ginni and The Ginni Show, but I've just put it put it all under one umbrella. Now being The Ginni Show and incorporating the other two podcasts I had, it just made sense to me to kind of make it a bit more of a documentary of my journey rather than fragments of it.
    • [spp-timestamp time="10:50"] At the time I was studying theater and performing arts. So I didn't have a fear of public speaking. I knew as soon as I got behind the mic, I would be on a whole different level of intimate and a whole different level of connection. Because when I opened the mic, I wasn't playing a character or reading a script I was being made.
    • [spp-timestamp time="21:22"] I'm curious to know Scott, you mentioned that you grew up in quite a conservative closed up type of environment. What do you think it was about you and your experiences that you kind of felt like, how did you develop such openness or being open-minded?
    • [spp-timestamp time="29:30"] Even though it was a bit scary at the time, I had that fear, how will I be judged. The other side of it was that everyone knows that I don't have to tell anyone, anything. I guess it also filters out who is supportive and who is not.
    • [spp-timestamp time="43:18"] You hav got this gratitude, look at what it's created for you, look at all the impact that you've been able to have on the kids' life and future kids. The grace that you're creating for yourself, and that you're passing on to others. It's totally amazing. And I think you've created quite a flow of abundance for yourself as a result, because you're giving the key thing to giving and gratitude, gratitude, actually, the starting point, but the key thing that what you're doing and being of service is you're giving and being of service without an expectation or attachment. You're doing it purely because you're a good dude. And you want to help this guy out?

    Final Words:

I would say one of the statements I love is that things are not happening for to you, they're happening for you. And so if you can kind of take that approach and say, Okay, what is great about this for me, how is this how is this the universe my spirits, you know, the world trying to help me and it flips our heads, we tend to wake up, you know, the Buddhist perspective, you know, it is that everybody is on the "Me Plan". And from the minute we wake up are like, will this make me feel better? Will this make me happier? Will this make me get what I what I've earned and am I getting off the "Me Plan"? I was about acknowledging everything else out there. There's a perfection to what's happening. You know, things that are happening, that are assisting you, all of the time assisting you, and getting more self-awareness, being more vulnerable, being more accurate in your self-assessment, and then loving more fully so you can be love more fully.

    • [spp-timestamp time="11:43"] I like to connect on Buddhism. Everybody has got different faiths or followings. I believe in respecting and admiring all unless it's a very negative and destructive one. There is no room for hating or fearing others. I don't have much use for it.
    • [spp-timestamp time="20:24"] What are the thoughts and emotions and old triggers for you that trigger your body to release cortisone that sets off that cascade. Good point for me, it's coming in at that core level.
    • [spp-timestamp time="33:05"] We're not talking injuries, like sports injuries, because that's going to be related to stomach ache, but if you think you have like a weak area of the body, that usually clues you in on how you store stress. This also clues you in on some of these same kinds of ideas.
    • [spp-timestamp time="41:00"] Science doesn't care if you believe it or not, it still works on you.

    Final Words:

I guess what it comes down to is something I learned a long, long time ago. What's ordinary to you is amazing to others. And I think we all underestimate what we know. And I can think of back when I was in the Navy, you could tell somebody that was new on the aircraft carrier because they would climb all the way up to the superstructure to watch the planes take off and land and then after about three days you're like it's normal I'm not going to do all that but yet you get off the ship and people like to watch the planes not just ordinary to me we underestimate what we know and just remember what's ordinary to you is amazing to others and today it's never been easier to share that with somebody to help them with it as a podcast host as a podcast guests on social media whatever you do you know help people connect with them introduce a new person a new idea to them it'll make their life better and it will make your life better too.

On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction
    • [spp-timestamp time="09:00"] Strategy and more strategy, or why are we doing this?
    • [spp-timestamp time="19:17"] We had a client and there's a great book out there called Clicksand how digital marketing is ruining your business by Bill Troy. And I think people will come back and point to that book and say he was the first one that said the emperor has no clothes. And his point was, is that a lot of what is being sold is vanity metrics. And it's hurting your business. I love how he said in there that whales don't click. And big fish don't go through funnels, right. If you think you're going to sell the CEO or the CFO of a company on your tripwire product in order for him to come in, and then, you know, give you that that million dollar contract. It's not going to happen.
    • [spp-timestamp time="31:00"] There are some people that like Gary Vaynerchuk, who was one of those early ones that did a podcast and video. Well, some people just want to watch him talk. So they'll do that. Somebody asked me one time, what's podcast now? 40% of the US population listens to podcasts.
    • [spp-timestamp time="40:50"] Different people need different things. I mean, we've got some that are, you know, spokespersons for Fortune 500 companies. Other ones are authors that are just starting out, you know, some of them, are keynote presenters. So, it's not like you take them all through the same thing. But as we do some practice interviews, we will point that out. I.e. here are some different things to do because podcasting is different than other mediums.
