Food Drama and Learning To Stock To Your Diet and Healthy Lifestyle:

Erin Wathen (WATH- EN) is a holistic health coach, food abuse counselor, and the inspiring author of Why Can’t I Stick to My Diet?: How To End The Food Drama. Her philosophy, simply put: Health isn’t a number on the scale or how often we exercise, but our lives as a whole.

Several years ago, Erin was not at peace with her body -- despite her wealth of knowledge on diet and exercise. She was always on a diet, and yet never reached her goal weight.

As a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and a Food Addiction Counselor, Erin was well versed in the science behind health. As a Certified Spinning® Instructor, Vinyasa Yoga instructor, and Classical Pilates instructor, she understood the mechanics of health and fitness as well. Through a lot of trial and error, Erin found true nutrition to be the missing piece of the puzzle.

It was then that Erin started her last diet, which ultimately became her food plan and the basis of her health coaching program, as well as her book "Why Can’t I Stick to My Diet?"

    Top 3 Hot Points:
    1. Clarifying Food relating to the Food Plate vs Food Pyramid
    2. Gut Health and Biology
    3. Food Plate vs Food Pyramid

    Final Words:

My all-encompassing message is, "it's just food. It's not your whole life. It's not love. It's not your family. Somewhere along the lines, food got out of order on our list of priorities, as I said with the oxygen analogy. So if we can just put it back to where it belongs, to me, support needs to be high quality, but it's not your friend. It's not entertainment. It needs to to be healthy. It needs to be good, but it's not the answer to any of our problems other than hunger.

    • [spp-timestamp time="13:15"] I do see the balance of a good yoga session. It's great for breathing exercises too when you really get into it.
    • [spp-timestamp time="20:15"] I was very active. But then I never really understood why my body didn't look how I wanted it to be too. I wasn't ever by any means fat, as you would call it. I didn't necessarily like how I looked like I should have. The classic lean and mean quote type of thing or the defined look.
    • [spp-timestamp time="30:00"] I went to, I don't know why they let me in, but a manufactured food conference in Chicago. I met someone who sells high fructose corn syrup. I met a woman that works for the Wheat Council. So I was like, did you let the wrong person in here?
    • [spp-timestamp time="40:00"] So sugar on top of sugar.

    Top 3 Hot Points:
    • Evolve Your Mindset
    • Make A Plan To Support Your Vision
    • Marry The Dream Not The Path

    Final Words:

What is your vision? What's your plan, because if you have a vision, without your plan, without your goals, it's nothing. It's a wish. So for me, it's what is the end game. Then what's the first step that you need to take to get there, and then doing the reps. You'll get there and marry the dream but, not the path. The path is going to squiggle. You keep your eyes wide open, going through the detours and everything that you've learned. You'll get to where you need to be not to where you thought you want it to be. Or more dangerously where you thought you deserved to be.

  • 242: Ra Optics, The Light Diet, Avoid EMF, and Have Faith
Today's New Guest Co-Host Discusses Healthy Lifestyle, Ra The Sun God, Blue Blocker Glasses, The Light Diet, Avoiding EMF, and Reminds Us To Have Faith:

"Matt Maruca is a student, entrepreneur, and teacher of optimal human health, and the Founder of Ra Optics, his first company to share information and create products that teach people to build health in the modern world. Ra Optics is focused specifically on Blue Light Blocking Glasses to protect our sleep/wake cycle, melatonin, repair quality, mitochondria, energy levels, and health from toxic artificial lighting. He travels and has met with some of the leading researchers of quantum biology. He is 19 years old.”

On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction
    • [spp-timestamp time="02:00"] How Matt and Scott met and Ra the Sun God, and the old cartoon ThunderCats.
    • [spp-timestamp time="05:00"] Financial freedom and stability. Finding neurosurgeon, Dr. Jack Kruse at 19 years of age.
    • [spp-timestamp time="07:00"] It became so obvious after reading a few Silicon Valley books, going back to the entrepreneurship, like a Lean Startup by Eric Ries. The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss. How do I run my own business from anywhere in the world?
    • [spp-timestamp time="15:00"] Fabrication and taco's inspired entrepreneurship.
    • [spp-timestamp time="17:00"] Plastics, polymers, anti-glare, anti-reflective coating. Making Blue Blocker glasses.
    • [spp-timestamp time="25:00"] How Matt learned about the Egyptian Sun God Ra through Jack Kruse. Proper sun exposure, becoming supercharged, and digging into understanding natural light vs artificial light.
    • [spp-timestamp time="29:00"] Understanding natural light's impact on our eye health, melatonin, healthy sleep, and more. Plus Matt digs into his past health issues as a youth, including gas, bloating, headaches, hormones, and more.
    • [spp-timestamp time="33:00"] Relating firefighting, inversions in the atmosphere, and temperature shifts to inflammation in the human body.
    • [spp-timestamp time="40:00"] It always seems to go back from the macro levels to the micro level. The whole story comes together when I was trying to use diet to fix issues in my health, which is really relating to our fundamental mitochondrial.
    • [spp-timestamp time="44:00"] I basically tell people is imagine that you took your car and you open up the hood and you pour tar all over the engine.
    • [spp-timestamp time="54:00"] In the world of the gadgets and all these things, and I didn't know that I didn't realize just how big of a deal that is. But now seeing my little brother and his friends, and how much time they spend on their devices, and all my adult friends too. [spp-timestamp time="59:00"] The Romans knew about sun and health. They had solariums where they could sun themselves and built their houses open to the sky. Likewise, this was common for a long time architecture to lead in more natural lighting. Eventually, with the advent of artificial lighting, people believe that it had the same impact as far as our bodies because they didn't know about the health impacts they just thought lighting was lighting.
    • [spp-timestamp time="01:19:00"] Once I started loading up on seafood, good quality spring water, and morning sun exposure, I was able to start absorbing more sunlight in tanning and getting a really nice color of my skin. So we can change our biology anyway. Avoid manmade EMF. So basically avoid manmade EMF.

From Seneca, the old stoic philosopher, he said, if one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind can be favorable. In other words, find where you are at least directionally want to go. If you want to go to Africa, Asia, Europe, Antarctica, then you at least have a general destination. The more specific we can kind of tailor what we want, the more likely we're going to end up closer.

  • 241: Inflammation, Disease, BioTe Hormones, and Integrative Medicine
A Healthy Podcast on Inflammation, Disease, BioTe Hormones, Gut Health, Microbiome, Integrative Medicine, and More:

Additionally, she has a Masters in Metabolic Nutritional Medicine from the University of South Florida’s Medical School. Her expertise lies within integrative, anti-aging, and functional medicine. She is arguably one of the Midwest's’ most credentialed female healthcare providers combining many certifications and training. She completed an Advanced fellowship in Anti-Aging Regenerative and Functional Medicine in 2013. She became the first BioTe certified provider for hormones in Iowa to administer hormone pellets also in 2013. She is the author of the FNP Mastery App and an Amazon best selling author of her book Your Longevity Blueprint. On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction
    • [spp-timestamp time="08:00"] I think because I'm in the Midwest and there are a lot of baby boomers here, we need more providers, we need what nurse practitioners are often called, which is a mid-level provider. They're desperate for help. I think that's part of why maybe we have more rights and more autonomy. Iowa has allowed me to really build an integrative or functional medicine practice. There's no guarantee that I could have found a true medical doctor who would have allowed me to practice under them this in this manner.
    • [spp-timestamp time="14:00"] A fireman versus a carpenter approach, describes conventional, or you could say traditional medicine, as being more the fire department. The fire department is used to put out the fire. A chiropractor is then the carpenter approach to move forward with.
    • [spp-timestamp time="15:00"] You're not always taught how to prevent future fires, right? That's where what we do comes in, we're a functional medicine provider, a contractor or Carpenter as I discussed in my book. We are helping patients build a healthier body using functional medicine principles because we want to get to the root cause. We want to determine if the patient has inflammation and figure out those triggers. We want to help put out that fire without hopefully having to use drugs and surgery.
    • [spp-timestamp time="19:00"] A Carnivore Study? I want to go off on a tangent now. I am very curious what happens to hormones and what happens to nutritional deficiencies on that sort of diet?
    • [spp-timestamp time="23:39"] I had endometriosis, which I'm going to talk more about in my second book. I did utilize some of the conventional medicine but I use a lot of functional medicine to help with fertility. I've been gluten-free for I don't even know how many years, five years maybe. I'm not free of all grains but I am 100% gluten-free and I needed to go dairy-free as well.
    • [spp-timestamp time="35:00"] Terry Wahls is a good friend and colleague, her working knowledge base is ridiculous. She's someone who reversed her autoimmune condition. She was wheelchair bound with MS - Multiple Sclerosis and was essentially sent home to die. So she did her own research, being she was conventionally trained, she sought out functional medicine and now she's in the best shape of her life. She feels amazing.
    • [spp-timestamp time="43:00"] It's all about gut health. It's all about getting back to the inflammation. You mentioned punching that fire out and for autoimmune diseases specifically, that's what Terry Wahls' book is all about. It is getting the inflammatory foods out of her gut to really reverse her condition.
    • [spp-timestamp time="45:30"] Chefs in the cooking world do not fully understand microbiome, gut biology, and how food allergies actually work. Sugar tastes good, sugars are addicting, so that's why they want you to come back.
    • [spp-timestamp time="53:00"] There are a time and place where with some patients, there's not a lot they can do nutritionally. If they don't have the organs necessary to produce the hormones in their symptomatic, they may need hormones. Topical gels and creams, they're not my favorite, as they're not the preferred forms. Injectables, those are all synthetic, so I do not like offer those. Then there are sublingual lozenges you can put on your tongue but with BioTe, I believe this is the most potent and safest delivery method. BioTe, Bio-Identical Testosterone Estrogen delivered in hormone pellets.
    • [spp-timestamp time="01:12:00"] Final Words

    Final Words:

I think we emphasized the importance of eating clean and reducing stress. Those are two awesome tips right there. So I think those are the biggest take homes.

I've also said this word a couple of times, HOPE, that's in the back of the book. I list a lot of references for patients to find functional medicine providers near where they're living. I think sometimes patients hear things or individuals may hear a message and it resonates but then they don't know where to go from there. So if it resonates with you, share with someone you know or a family member who may need functional medicine.

Don't give up, find a provider who can help you repair and rebuild your body. You won't regret it.

    • [spp-timestamp time="03:07"] Speaking of dinner, I actually have a Paleo, actually a Whole 30-friendly chicken soup in the Instapot going right now.
    • [spp-timestamp time="03:25"] Shoutout to Anna Vocino and her sugar-free, grain-free Eat Happy Cookbook.
    • [spp-timestamp time="05:50"] Discussing skiing best spots to train Kari's son here in Pennsylvania. Bear Creek, Blue Mountain, Camelback, etc.
    • [spp-timestamp time="11:45"] He's more of a karate kid, individual sports karate.
    • [spp-timestamp time="15:15"] I had a come to Jesus moment with my PT. Marathon Maniac. What I love about running is for people who are, strong, high energy, like both of us. It is this idea that calms you down and you're able to maybe get rid of some anxiety. After many injuries and after running six marathons...
    • [spp-timestamp time="20:09"] I love Flow. Side note, Steven Kotler who's written books about flow has been on the podcast. A famous quote, And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years, quoted by Abraham Lincoln.

    Quote:

"And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."

    • [spp-timestamp time="24:20"] I have mad respect for vegans because I do understand from the environmental global warming standpoint, like, Whoa, I get it.
    • [spp-timestamp time="25:37"] Flow is defined as, where what you're doing is just a little bit past where we are competent, and you're just sucked in, so time disappears...
    • [spp-timestamp time="29:20"] I like to call that high performance. It's a gift, it's Flow.
    • [spp-timestamp time="32:55"] Geeking out on stainless steel cups and now straws.
    • [spp-timestamp time="35:55"] Marathon training do's, don'ts, injuries, and recoveries.
    • [spp-timestamp time="38:30"] OESH Shoes
    • [spp-timestamp time="40:30"] You have to try something called Balanced Athlete, which is similar to CrossFit. I believe it is way better because you're actually in your bare feet. They're not all about quantity, they're about quality.
    • [spp-timestamp time="45:40"] Connecting on Julian Kaufmann and his Flow related book, Let Go Let It Flow.
    • [spp-timestamp time="45:40"] I geek out about Flow because of Positive Psychology and being in the state where things feel right. I think it's wonderful how CrossFit has this community and Runners have it too, it comes down to knowing yourself.
    • [spp-timestamp time="51:30"] There's the classic wheel of life that I think every self-development conference you ever go to mentions. You have your wheel, and then you have your different spokes...
    • [spp-timestamp time="52:28"] It's all on your mindset. That's the whole positive psychology. Well, one of the domains mentioned was eating fat, David Perlmutter is great at influencing that.
    • [spp-timestamp time="57:25"] They say people with ADHD at companies are three times more productive. Entrepreneurs who have ADHD...

We've had this sharing, this joy of sharing people that have influenced us and connections. I just really want to share that, especially in this is coming from a mom and you know, all of us have things going on. This is that to really honor this, is why I say that in my podcast is to honor yourself because you're the most important person.

We get to interview, we have the opportunity to interview some big names, and they're great. That doesn't mean you're not great. That you're not important, you know, and I think I think it's really time to be with that...

You know something special happens when you have the opportunity to do that kind of stuff. This year I probably made triple the amount of money I made last year with my side hustle and some things I've started doing with my carpentry, my skillset, and my level of commitment to taking care of my family. The money I made doesn't mean shit to me.

Alternative Medicine, Colorado, Leaky Gut, Paleo, Vegan, Inflammation, and Athletic Performance:

Dr. Ann-Marie Barter is a chiropractor and functional medicine practitioner who serves Denver, Niwot, Longmont, Boulder, Lyons, Louisville, Lafayette and the surrounding communities in the Denver Metro Area.denver longmont chiropractor ann barter

Ann-Marie graduated from the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon, an accredited 4 year Doctoral program that is considered a leader in evidence-based medicine, and the first Chiropractic school to be awarded a federal research grant.

Dr. Barter underwent rigorous clinical training with some of the finest chiropractors. Ann has also undergone advanced training in Applied Kinesiology, completing over 400 extra classroom hours and is certified to practice Applied Kinesiology. She has also studied Functional Blood Chemistry under Dr. Kharrazian.

She has taken an interest in optimizing health by incorporating diet counseling, whole food supplementation, herbal therapy, wellness and lifestyle coaching, scar tissue work, deep tissue massage, and exercise programs.

Dr. Barter has completed the 18 hours required for certification by The Running Clinic for: New Trends in the Prevention of Running Injuries. This training course has been delivered more than a hundred times, on 5 continents! It has been developed using the most recent scientific evidence, it questions several current unjustified practices. The techniques learned in this class help Dr. Barter better assess her patients and aids in making recommendations for avoiding future running-related injuries.

    Ann's Bio Continued:

Medicine is a second career and passion for Dr. Barter. Initially, she worked at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Fort Worth, Texas negotiating major systems for their fighter jet program. She excelled at difficult negotiations and was able to hit challenging company goals.

Ann is passionate about chiropractic, helping people get out of pain and reach their maximum potential. Chiropractic changed Dr. Barter’s life. When she was in initially introduced to chiropractic (in her early 20’s) she was skeptical. The more educated she became in the art of chiropractic, the more interested and intrigued she became, until she finally asked for an adjustment from a family friend who practices chiropractic. The treatment was like magic. He not only adjusted her spine but also her feet, hips, knees, wrists, and elbows. She felt new and light, like a better version of herself. He also took extra time to put her on a specific dietary protocol and nutritional regimen, from which she realized major positive changes. She excelled academically, experienced less gastrointestinal upset, reduced brain-fog, lost weight, and started to enjoy activities like hiking, because her foot mechanics had been changed.

Dr. Barter has been active in athletics her entire life. For 17 years Dr. Barter was a competitive dancer. These days she can be found dancing, skiing, running, performing yoga, biking, hiking, lifting weights or walking her Rhodesian Ridgeback, Ritz. She knows what it takes to be an athlete and she finds great satisfaction in helping athletes reach their maximum potential.

Ann uses chiropractic care to improve the health and wellness in all areas of patient’s lives, whether they are having problems with back or neck pain, or just want to start feeling better when they wake up in the morning. Dr. Barter takes a “whole person” approach to chiropractic care, which means looking for the underlying causes of disease, discomfort, and pain, as opposed to just treating the symptoms.

Many seemingly unrelated symptoms often arise from imbalances in the spinal column, extremities, biochemical disturbances, and stress and Dr. Barter will be able to determine the root of the problem and create a personalized chiropractic and wellness plan to suit each patient’s individual needs.

Dr. Ann-Marie Barter is passionate about helping you and your family. She has a broad range of diagnostic skills and enjoys working with women and men of all ages including pregnant women, kids, and geriatric patients. She is dedicated to appropriately assessing your condition, building an individualized treatment program, and optimizing your health.

On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction
    • [spp-timestamp time="01:49"] What's your fast protocol? Nutritional cleansing, fasting, detoxing, and more.
    • [spp-timestamp time="04:48"] Water fast from time to time and being able to retrace injuries.
    • [spp-timestamp time="07:08"] I love that retracing of your injury when you're cleaning out and cleansing. I jumped on a nail when I was six years old. Wow, that bottom of my foot really hurts.
    • [spp-timestamp time="09:13"] I wanted to move to Colorado because I fought the Four Mile Canyon complex fire in 2010 outside of Boulder. The first time I saw a molten engine block, it got so hot, it looked like the Terminator, the liquid robot.
    • [spp-timestamp time="10:47"] The ptarmigan glacier up in Rocky Mountain National Park, so we parked at 8000 and then we hiked to 12-13,000’, and you just drop off of that cliff edge. That was my first backcountry experience into that bowl.
    • [spp-timestamp time="13:25"] I go up there I decided that I'm going to wear new skis, by the way my friend and I are the only females in the parking lot. I'm wearing new powder skis because I'm set. If you've ever skied Silverton there are double blacks, they're pretty intense. It's also that time of year, it was kind of rocky, I mean the conditions were ice they closed a week later.
    • [spp-timestamp time="14:36"] It really gave me a respect for the mountains and so now going out in that country just totally gives me a different respect for it. I guess you have to be humbled to really see what that's all about.
    • [spp-timestamp time="18:26"] So I definitely grew up athletic. I was a competitive dancer and a competitive runner but I did a lot of my growing up in Texas, which is pretty flat. So there's none of the mountain experience that you can have. I actually didn't like to hike as a kid I used to whine about it because my feet were really bad and so it hurt me to walk and hike.
    • [spp-timestamp time="19:19"] I found chiropractic when I was in college because I had all kinds of gut and gastrointestinal problems and I found alternative health. So my story into alternative health is this, I remember having such bad period cramps I went to my MD, right? Well she actually just said you know, suck it up.
    • [spp-timestamp time="20:59"] I get my appendix removed, told the whole time, I'm perfectly healthy as I just have an organ removed. Fast forward a few years I'm in college and I start breaking out into hives all over my body and an anaphylaxis reaction. Trip after trip to the emergency room, they give me Benadryl on top of Benadryl, nobody ever talked to me about diet, lifestyle, anything.
    • [spp-timestamp time="27:25"] You can see if on basic lab panels like homocysteine will tell us if somebody has current information related to that MTHFR gene. Your body produces glutathione. In fact, it's a major antioxidant. One of the most powerful antioxidants in the body.

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

    - Norman Vincent Peale

    • [spp-timestamp time="30:41"] I had a patient I generally recommend a paleo whole 30 cleanse for 30 days for my patients. I have been doing this for like 20 years before Paleo was cool. I remember just one time trying to go vegan just to see if I could go vegan for 30 days to see if I could do it. I literally think I felt how frustrated people feel when they're trying to change their diet for the first time because it was so hard. I couldn't find any foods to eat because I don't need a ton of grains. I don't eat soy.
    • [spp-timestamp time="34:00"] Aside from the vegan diet not being good for me, just based on how active my lifestyle is, etc. Plus really needing to do additional supplementation.
    • [spp-timestamp time="36:34"] Dr. Anthony Jay’s launching right now the first Carnivore Study, he's looking for people to participate in his study where for 90 days you're 100% carnivore.
    • [spp-timestamp time="39:46"] There are a lot of buzz words today: Keto, Ketogenic, Paleo, Paleolithic, LCHF, Low Carb High Fat, NSNG, No Sugar No Grains, etc.
    • [spp-timestamp time="41:02"] You always have to check men's estrogen to make sure that they're not producing too much estrogen when you're checking their testosterone. Same with women.
    • [spp-timestamp time="42:46"] Ubiome, they'll break down what bacteria you have in your gut and what you don't have in your gut. It's actually pretty cool testing to figure out what's going on.
    • [spp-timestamp time="44:51"] Ultimately, we have gap junctions in our GI system. What ends up happening is these gap junctions get some space in between them. Then that leaks out into our bloodstream.
    • [spp-timestamp time="46:21"] You clean up the other diet, you clean up everything else.
    • [spp-timestamp time="47:03"] I put people on an elimination diet initially, I don't love grains for a lot of patients. I definitely don't love sugar for a lot of patients. I think that they need to incorporate some more foods like nuts and seeds depending on how you look at paleo.
    • [spp-timestamp time="50:45"] I get a lot of questions about Keto. I have women come in that have gained like 30 pounds on Keto. I don't think keto is good and I don't think keto is bad. Certain people, have livers that can't process that much fat at once.
    • [spp-timestamp time="52:38"] It is money, money, money, money, money, money, a lot of people are getting wealthy with people being sick. A lot of people are making money in the food industry that way.
    • [spp-timestamp time="56:36"] I would overeat protein, I would blow my blood sugar and blow my ketones.
    • [spp-timestamp time="01:04:46"] Final Words

    Final Words:

Being a practitioner, sometimes practitioners don't connect because there's this concern about scarcity and they don't do what's best for the patient. It can be working with our MD or working with a surgeon or whomever it is, to give them the best care when we integrate.

It is powerful medicine because multiple eyes looking at one thing is so much better than one set of eyes looking at one thing. I just think people really do need to take control of their health.

The people that I see coming in here, they are 20 years old, especially in my Denver location. They're 20 years old, they're struggling with crazy things that they cannot get to the bottom of. I mean we're talking eczema, we're talking about abscesses in their large intestines. You have to take these alternative methods seriously earlier, because, you know, you're going to have a much better life, you're going to have a much better quality of life. I don't know why people don't want to do that. I don't know why people don't want to embrace that. It's just baffles me.

Time To Burn Your Couch with LionHeart Radio's Rick Alexander!

Rick is a writer, speaker and performance coach. He's also the author of Burn Your Couch available on Amazon! As an ex-special operations veteran and ultra-endurance athlete, Rick crafts content to help lead people through adversity and into a life of meaning. You can hear his ideas on his podcast LionHeart Radio which air's Monday through Friday or by picking up a copy of his debut book, Burn Your Couch. (BurnYourCouch.com)

On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="00:10"] Introduction and a regular co-host shout out to Dr. Megan Cannon, Sports Psychologist for getting Rick and Scott introduced. Plus Scott knocks Rick’s bio intro and killed it!
    • [spp-timestamp time="04:00"] It's interesting because if you let the wrong thing get into the driver's seat when you're going through your life, it's going to make you miserable. It goes back to that classic quote like how are you supposed to move forward if you're always living behind or something like that. It's one of these is something different manifestations of that quote, but it's is so true.
    • [spp-timestamp time="06:24"] Why do you have to go back? If you served, then you have that honor and that respect. You can move on to start a whole new chapter.
    • [spp-timestamp time="08:00"] Three of the most top psychologically strenuous things that you can go through in your life.
    • [spp-timestamp time="14:00"] That's the thing, an existential crisis we've made that you literally ignore your call to adventure and you continue to do the things that you think you're supposed to do or you have all these obligations that are essentially self-imposed, right?
    • [spp-timestamp time="18:00"] If you're really growth minded, that kind of a lifestyle is rough, and I don't wish it on anybody, because it means you got to leave relationships, leave jobs and you leave states. If you're going to honor the process of what growth really requires, that means that you are going to grow away from certain things that are really comfortable in it and that you might enjoy.
    • [spp-timestamp time="20:45"] I think that it's entirely possible to find people that you're going to grow with. It's just way harder.
    • [spp-timestamp time="22:52"] One of the mindset shifts for me that it was a literal life changer was focusing on what you do want vs you don't want. Something that's really changed my life so you know, I don't want to go broke is much different than I want to make six figures this year, right?
    • [spp-timestamp time="25:20"] Preconceived notions and ideas. Cognitive researchers believe that you don't know about 95% of what goes on in your own brain.
    • [spp-timestamp time="27:00"] Writing is a process where there's not a lot of validation.
    • [spp-timestamp time="31:20"] We're in a culture of doers, so you just keep doing, and doing, the path just keeps getting further and further away from where you really want to be at times.
    • [spp-timestamp time="33:29"] You need to protect your energy, you can end up somewhere miserable, burnt out and exhausted. Then you're going to hate what you're doing because I've literally gone down that road of hustle.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” ... “One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.” ~ Carl Jung

    • [spp-timestamp time="37:00"] History of LionHeart. We had all CrossFit athletes that we sponsored, which is why we started the show.
    • [spp-timestamp time="42:52"] I found the beauty in life which is outside of rigidity.
    • [spp-timestamp time="44:04"] It's serendipitous. The morning coffee podcast episodes on LionHeart.
    • [spp-timestamp time="46:00"] I kept denying that call to adventure and because of that, I delayed what I really wanted to be doing in this world by years. It was painful and if I really fought to get that out there. Burn Your Coach was released a year ago, it was essentially the idea behind that which is a lot of what we're talking about. Most people mistake being comfortable for being happy and those two things just aren't the same.
    • [spp-timestamp time="47:51"] Who are the people you're surrounding yourself with? Who are the inner circles that you're allowing your manifestation to take with? Setting big hairy audacious goals normally does not come from the old circles of influence, they come from the new circles of influence that you're allowing into your life.
    • [spp-timestamp time="48:11"] I got out of the military at 12 years. Everybody said you got to do eight more years. The only thing I could think about is eight years to do a job that you're unhappy with when you know there's an entire life you want to be doing.
    • [spp-timestamp time="50:39"] I just finished recording the audiobook literally yesterday. It's a ridiculous process.
    • [spp-timestamp time="51:23"] There are some great books like former Navy SEAL guys or stories of Navy SEAL’s. Check out Fearless about former SEAL, Adam Brown.
    • [spp-timestamp time="52:33"] I wanted to be a rock star my whole life. I spent a couple years playing in the music industry and we were huge but we had like a local song on the radio and we opened for some bands that I liked.
    • [spp-timestamp time="54:00"] How can we achieve more? Do the thing that you feel called to do in the world. It will be the biggest performance hack you could ever imagine.
    • [spp-timestamp time="55:24"] Final Words

    Final Words:

I'm going to close it with a Carl Young quote. It wasn't the quote I gave you at the beginning of the show:

“Until you make the subconscious conscious, it's going to rule your life and you're going to call it fate.”

I think there's no more worthy ideal than figuring out who you really want to be in what you really are. I know I've been talking about it throughout this whole show.

Until you do that, everything else won't matter. You'll put your energy in the wrong place, you'll be in the wrong relationship, you'll do the wrong job and not necessarily every single aspect.

On This Episode You Will Hear:
    • [spp-timestamp time="00:30"] Introduction
    • [spp-timestamp time="29:30"] If you are operating at a nine out of 10, and a nine out of 10 means clarity, focus, energy, drive, productivity, happiness, all the studies show that happy people are wealthier, healthier people that tend to be happier and have good habits. Okay, if you just go from a seven to a nine, chances are, you are going to go from 50 grand to something approaching 100 grand, at least now you're in a job, and you're phoning it in, and your bosses like, Imagine if you're nine out of 10, and all of a sudden, you come in, you go, Hey, I got this great idea for this thing. Let's do this. Well, you start selling more, or you start going the extra mile, your chances of getting up promotion increase exponentially. which results in could be $10,000 more, $25,000 more. Maybe you all of a sudden go I'm too big for this damn company. I'm so damn good. I'm going to put myself on the market. And then another company comes in and hires you and offers you 120,000.
    • [spp-timestamp time="32:54"] I'm an entrepreneur, you're an entrepreneur, and especially with entrepreneurs who have the ability to go out and just create their own universe, you know, I mean, everyone can, but I like talking to entrepreneurs. There's a there's a guy called Kevin who is in my program I have called Project 90 and Project 90 is essentially, coaches, entrepreneurs who drink into quitting alcohol for at least 90 days. So they can see the huge benefits that they can get from that.
