Living Between Wednesdays

Rachelle, creator of the comic book blog Living Between Wednesdays, and Dave, manager of the Strange Adventures comic shop in Halifax, Nova Scotia, share their love of all things comic book and super hero related.

This week marked the (fantastic) end of Mark Waid and Chris Samnee's incredible run on Daredevil. That got us thinking about other epic runs, and about how few of them have satisfying endings. It was a slow week for news, gossip and Winter Soldier, but we still manage to fill an hour. As always, there is bonus material on the blog.

This week we look at our favourite (and some of our least favourite) super hero cartoon shows! To be honest, we mostly talk about Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. Also in this episode, we give love to Jack Kirby and Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, shake our heads at Jeremy Renner in the latest installment of the Renner Report, and talk about the Civil War promo art, J. Bone, and fandom in This Week in Winter Soldier.

As always, there is bonus material on the blog to accompany the episode!

This week we welcome our very first guest, Sean Jordan, aka Wordburglar! It's a light news/gossip week so we get right into talking about what comics we are enjoying right now, the latest edition of the Renner Report, and, of course, all the latest Winter Soldier news.

Our topic this week is a double topic! First we discuss things other than super heroes that we either are, or are not, nerds about. Then we share some of our favourite stories from working in comic shops. As always, there is bonus material on the blog!

Dave starts this episode by reading Rachelle the written account of the Civil War trailer, which screened at D23 during her drive to Dave's house. Rachelle basically doesn't hear anything after the words 'your Bucky.'

We also talk about superhero friendships! Why we love them, which ones we love the most, and why they are so important to superhero storytelling.

Dave and I watched both the 2005 Fantastic Four movie and the new Fantastic Four movie and we share our thoughts on both. Rachelle talks a little about her brief adventures at Boston Comic Con, and we both discuss our comic book recs, the latest This Week in Winter Soldier news, and the upcoming DCAF festival in Dartmouth, N.S.

As always, you can find bonus content on the blog. We would love it if you took a moment to rate us on iTunes!

This week we valiantly fill a full hour despite it being a very light week for both of our pull lists. There is also almost no comic book news or gossip, no Winter Soldier appearances in any comics, and Jeremy Renner didn't say anything dumb (that we know of) all week. We still bring you an entertaining episode in which Dave complains about Marvel's system for ordering variant covers, and Rachelle expresses concerns about the construction of the new movieverse Avengers HQ. And in the second half we talk about our favourite comic book crossovers!

We watched Ant-Man on Thursday and recorded this episode on Friday! It's crammed full of spoilers! Rachelle loses her mind over the end credits scene, and treats Dave to a detailed review of Magic Mike XXL. We also discuss the Batman vs Superman trailer, and Jesse Eisenberg's dumb Comic Con comments. Plus, X-Men: Apocalypse, Hayley Atwell's Dubsmash battle, and, oh yeah, a little bit about actual comic books.

It's San Diego Comic Con week so we talk about some of the many announcements from the big show. We also discuss Arthur Suydam's public shaming as a less-than-gracious convention guest. Later on Dave and I relate some of our own stories from attending comic cons. All this plus our thoughts on some of the latest comics, including Archie #1 and Strange Fruit #1. And, as always, Rachelle brings you all the important Winter Soldier news.

This week we talk about the exciting title announcements from Image Expo, the All New Different Marvel titles, and Rachelle reads excerpts from Jeremy Renner's Playboy interview in the debut of The Renner Report segment. Then we unveil our individual lists of our all-time favourite, and least favourite, DC characters.

Recorded in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

On this episode, in celebration of Canada Day, we talk about Canadian characters and creators! We just barely scratch the surface! There is also a lot of news and gossip this week, prompting us to gush even more about Jason Aaron. We also consider Chris Pine as Hal Jordan, barely care about a Ben Affleck-directed Batman movie, and Rachelle is embarassed for Anthony Mackie's obsession with finding Chris Evans the perfect woman.

Also, Rachelle watched The Covenant just before recording this episode, so you are going to hear about that.
