BYU football should be a preseason top-20 team in 2025, despite some pundits suggesting an unranked start after their 11-2 2024 season. Their 11-2 record demonstrated their competitiveness and established them as a force in the Big 12. Returning key players on both sides of the ball provides a strong foundation for continued success.

A challenging schedule will prepare them for the rigors of conference play and the potential for a playoff run. While preseason rankings are subjective, BYU's recent success, returning talent, and challenging schedule warrant a higher preseason ranking than being unranked. They have proven they can compete at a high level and should be recognized for their accomplishments.

Dismissing BYU's 11-2 2024 season as a "fluke" is a disservice to their hard work and accomplishments. This team proved their competitiveness in the challenging Big 12, showcasing a balanced offense and a strong defense.

While preseason rankings are subjective, ignoring their recent success undermines their achievements. Returning key players and a demanding schedule demonstrate their commitment to building a sustainable program. BYU has earned the respect that comes with a top-20 preseason ranking.

BYU basketball faces a crucial test tonight as they host the #20 Arizona Wildcats. Riding a four-game winning streak in the Big 12, the Cougars have momentum and are looking to extend their dominance.

A victory over a ranked opponent like Arizona would significantly boost BYU's NCAA Tournament resume and solidify their position as a serious contender in the conference.

This is a pivotal matchup with major implications for both teams. Expect a hard-fought battle as BYU aims for a fifth consecutive win and a statement victory against a highly-regarded opponent.

Can the BYU Cougars' innovative approach to spring football games set a new standard in college sports? In light of Nebraska coach Matt Rhule's recent comments about potentially eliminating the Cornhuskers' spring game due to concerns about player exposure to other teams, BYU's decision to explore an alumni game instead of a traditional spring game seems increasingly astute.

An alumni game offers several advantages. Firstly, it minimizes the risk of player injuries that often occur during competitive spring scrimmages. Secondly, it provides a valuable opportunity to showcase the program's history and tradition to current players and recruits. Alumni games can generate excitement and foster a stronger connection between current players and the program's legacy.

Furthermore, an alumni game can be a more entertaining and engaging event for fans. It allows fans to see former stars back in action, while also providing an opportunity to support the current program.

While the traditional spring game serves a valuable purpose, BYU's consideration of an alumni game is a creative and potentially beneficial alternative. It addresses concerns about player safety while also providing unique opportunities for fan engagement and program development.

Richie Saunders has been instrumental in BYU's surge up the Big 12 standings this season. His consistent scoring and all-around play have been crucial to the team's success.

Saunders' impact goes beyond just scoring. He's a versatile player who can play multiple positions and contribute in various ways. His ability to score efficiently, rebound effectively, and play solid defense makes him a valuable asset to the team.

Saunders' consistent performances have not only helped BYU win games but have also elevated his own individual stock. He's a key player for the Cougars and a significant contributor to their success this season.

Logan Lutui's return to the BYU football program provides a significant boost to a young and developing defensive end unit.

Lutui brings invaluable experience and leadership to the table. As a veteran player, he understands the nuances of the BYU defensive scheme and can effectively mentor younger players. His presence on the field will provide stability and leadership, helping to guide and develop the next generation of defensive ends.

Furthermore, Lutui's return provides valuable depth and competition within the defensive line. His experience and talent will push younger players to improve and elevate their game. This increased competition will ultimately benefit the entire defensive line unit, making them more competitive and effective.

Lutui's return is a significant development for BYU football. His leadership, experience, and on-field contributions will be invaluable as the program continues to strive for success in the Big 12.

In a crucial Big 12 matchup, the BYU Cougars continued their impressive run with a dominant road victory over the UCF Knights. This marks their fourth consecutive win in conference play, solidifying their position as a serious contender in the Big 12 race.

The Cougars showcased impressive offensive firepower, with Richie Saunders going off for 22 points and Mawot Mag emerging with a strong 19-point outing. BYU center Keba Keita dominated late in the game with two big free throws and then two ferocious blocks at the rim that helped seal the deal before he had a verbal altercation postgame in the handshake line and was ushered to the locker room while flashing an "L" at UCF.

This victory has significant implications for BYU's NCAA Tournament aspirations. With each win, they strengthen their resume and improve their chances of securing a favorable seed in the conference tournament. This road win against UCF demonstrates the Cougars' resilience and ability to perform under pressure, giving them the momentum they need to make a serious run in the Big 12 and beyond.

BYU football's aspirations of winning the Big 12 championship and making the College Football Playoff in 2025 hinge significantly on the favorability of their schedule. While talent and coaching are essential, a manageable schedule can be the difference between a good season and a championship-caliber one. A favorable schedule can provide momentum, build confidence, and preserve player health, all crucial factors in a long and demanding season.

A balanced schedule, with a reasonable distribution of home and away games, is vital. Minimizing the number of consecutive road games and ensuring key conference matchups are played at home can significantly impact the team's win-loss record. Avoiding a stretch of games against top-ranked opponents in consecutive weeks is also crucial for maintaining momentum and avoiding costly losses.

Furthermore, the timing of certain games can be a factor. Playing challenging opponents early in the season allows the team to learn and grow, while facing them later can be advantageous if the team has gelled and improved throughout the year. Conversely, avoiding too many conference road games in the latter part of the season can help preserve energy and focus as the playoff race intensifies.

Ultimately, while BYU can control their preparation and performance, they can't control their schedule. However, a favorable draw can significantly increase their chances of achieving their championship goals.

BYU basketball finds itself squarely on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament, their fate hanging in the balance. To solidify their spot in March Madness, consistent performance in the challenging Big 12 conference is paramount. Every game becomes a must-win opportunity to improve their resume and impress the selection committee.

Victories against ranked opponents and teams with strong NET rankings are crucial for bolstering their tournament credentials. These wins demonstrate their ability to compete with the best teams in the country and showcase their potential to make a deep run in the tournament. Avoiding bad losses against teams with lower NET rankings is equally important, as these losses can significantly damage their overall profile.

Maintaining a winning record in conference play is essential. A strong showing in the Big 12 not only improves their overall record but also demonstrates their ability to navigate a tough and competitive conference. Consistency is key; stringing together wins and avoiding prolonged losing streaks will be vital for building momentum and confidence.

Ultimately, BYU's tournament hopes rest on their ability to consistently compete and win against quality opponents in the Big 12. If they can hang tough, secure key victories, and avoid costly losses, their chances of hearing their name called on Selection Sunday will significantly improve.

BYU basketball's victory over the Baylor Bears marks a significant step forward in their quest for Big 12 contention. This win, against a traditionally strong program, provides a crucial boost of confidence and validates the team's progress. Beating Baylor demonstrates that BYU can compete with the top teams in the conference, solidifying their position as a legitimate contender.

This victory carries several important implications. Firstly, it improves their conference record, which is essential for climbing the standings and securing a favorable seed in the conference tournament. Every win in the Big 12 is valuable, and this one against Baylor carries extra weight due to the Bears' reputation.

Secondly, this win builds momentum. Victories against quality opponents boost team morale and create a positive atmosphere within the program. This momentum can carry over into future games, helping BYU maintain a winning streak and continue their ascent in the conference race.

Thirdly, it sends a message to the rest of the Big 12. Beating Baylor puts other teams on notice, signaling that BYU is a force to be reckoned with. This newfound respect can be a psychological advantage in future matchups.

While this win is a significant step, it's crucial for BYU to maintain focus and consistency. The Big 12 is a challenging conference, and one win doesn't guarantee future success. However, this victory over Baylor provides a strong foundation and fuels the belief that BYU can make a serious run for the conference title.

Egor Demin and Kanon Catchings both significantly boosted their NBA Draft stock with impressive performances against Baylor. Demin showcased his versatility and well-rounded game, contributing in multiple facets. His scoring, rebounding, and playmaking were all on display, demonstrating his potential to be a valuable asset at the next level. NBA scouts value players with his diverse skillset, and this game likely solidified his position as a prospect to watch.

Catchings, known for his shooting prowess, further solidified his reputation as a sharpshooter. His ability to knock down crucial three-pointers, especially in a high-pressure game against a quality opponent like Baylor, is highly coveted in the NBA. His performance showcased his consistency and clutch factor, which are essential qualities for any aspiring NBA player.

These strong performances against Baylor not only helped BYU secure a crucial win but also provided Demin and Catchings with a platform to showcase their talents to NBA scouts. Their improved draft stock will undoubtedly garner more attention as the season progresses, making them players to keep an eye on as the NBA Draft approaches.

Building off their impressive 2024 season, BYU football is wisely prioritizing their offensive and defensive lines in recruiting. The trenches are where games are won, and BYU recognizes that continued success hinges on a strong and deep presence on both sides of the line. A dominant offensive line provides the foundation for a potent rushing attack and solid pass protection, allowing the quarterback to thrive and the offense to control the tempo. Recruiting talented offensive linemen ensures the team can maintain this strength for years to come.

Equally important is the defensive line. A disruptive defensive line can pressure opposing quarterbacks, disrupt running plays, and create turnovers. Adding depth and talent to the defensive line allows BYU to rotate players, keeping them fresh and effective throughout the game. This is crucial in the Big 12, where offenses are often high-powered.

By focusing on these crucial positions, BYU is investing in the foundation of their program. A strong offensive and defensive line will not only contribute to immediate success but also ensure long-term competitiveness in the Big 12. This emphasis on the trenches demonstrates a commitment to building a sustainable winning culture.
