Locked On Hornets - Daily Podcast On The Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets just played their best game of the Charles Lee era, absolutely dismantling the Oklahoma City Thunder 124-97. We explore how Charlotte managed to dominate a top-tier opponent from tip-off to the final buzzer. It wasn't just a shooting barrage; the defensive intensity, led by Moussa Diabate, stifled Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder attack. We examine Diabate’s eye-popping impact on the team's best lineups and why his energy is indispensable right now.

Offensively, LaMelo Ball dazzled with circus shots that defy logic, while Kon Knueppel continues to be a model of consistency and efficiency. The "Bee 3" core of LaMelo, Brandon Miller, and Miles Bridges is finally healthy and clicking, leading to one of the league's top offenses over the last two weeks. We discuss the significance of this victory as a potential benchmark for the season and what it means for the Hornets' play-in aspirations.

Plus, we look ahead to upcoming matchups against the Raptors and Pacers and provide updates on the potential returns of Ryan Kalkbrenner and Grant Williams. Join us for a celebration of a statement win that has Buzz City buzzing.

We recap a busy weekend for the Charlotte Hornets, who managed a split between the Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls despite playing without a true center. With the frontcourt depleted, Miles Bridges and the "small ball" unit are holding the line, but help may be on the way. We discuss the "Bat Signal" tweet from Grant Williams and what his potential return against OKC means for the rotation.

Tidjane Salaun continues to show sustained improvement, posting a massive plus-minus against the Bucks and proving he is becoming a reliable rotation piece. Meanwhile, Kon Knueppel etches his name in the record books, passing Alonzo Mourning for consecutive 15-point games by a rookie. We look at how his consistent scoring punch is stabilizing the offense alongside LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller.

Finally, we address the "unwritten rules" controversy with Nikola Vucevic, preview the matchup against the Thunder, and have some fun assigning Marvel superheroes to the Hornets roster.

Walker Mehl goes solo to recap the Hornets loss, but fun loss nonetheless against the Warriors on New Year’s Eve. Why was this Brandon Miller performance more impressive than other 30 point games we’ve see from him? What makes Kon Knueppel so special? Walker also gives a shoutout to PJ Hall and LaMelo Ball for having quiet, yet really nice showings before the new year. Finally, Walker has some fun with lineups and how all the best lineups highlight one player in particular.

On today's show, we ring in the New Year with a special "Buzz Level" prediction game for the Charlotte Hornets in 2026. We start with "Barely Buzzed" high-confidence takes, discussing why Brandon Miller signing a rookie max extension feels inevitable after his recent star performances. We also evaluate the chances of multiple Hornets rookies, including Kon Knueppel and Ryan Kalkbrenner, making All-Rookie teams.

Next, we move to "I'm Feeling It" medium confidence predictions, focusing on the center position. After years of instability, will the Hornets finally find a long-term solution in the frontcourt? We discuss the potential for Moussa Diabate to take over the starting role and the frontcourt getting younger than the backcourt.

Finally, we pour the strong stuff for our "So Buzzed I Can't See Straight" predictions. We explore a chaotic scenario involving the Golden State Warriors imploding and trading Steph Curry home to Charlotte in exchange for LaMelo Ball. We also debate the most unrealistic scenario of all: the Hornets actually having good injury luck.

On today's show, we recap a tough loss to the Milwaukee Bucks that saw Brandon Miller shine with 31 points while LaMelo Ball struggled with turnovers. The biggest story, however, was Miles Bridges leaving the game with an ankle injury. We provide the latest updates on his status and share some unexpectedly good news regarding Kon Knueppel's potential return to the lineup.

Later, we explore why the Charlotte Hornets' offense has looked like a completely different beast recently, ranking sixth in the NBA over the last two weeks. We credit Moussa Diabate's passing ability out of the short roll and the team's commitment to ball movement. Finally, we discuss the continued development of rookie Tidjane Salaun, who is shooting the ball with confidence and showing improved decision-making on the court.

We are breathing a massive sigh of relief regarding Kon Knueppel's health status. Doug Branson is joined by Evan Hale of Hail Storm Sports to discuss why Kon Knueppel's ankle injury might not be the disaster we all feared, despite him missing the game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Then, we ask the simple question: Are the Charlotte Hornets actually a good basketball team?. With a recent win over the Orlando Magic and an offense ranking 6th in the NBA over the last two weeks, the team is playing balanced basketball. We look at how Tidjane Salaun has upgraded from a "baby giraffe" to a "golden retriever puppy," impacting the game with his shooting and passing out of the short roll at the small-ball five.

Finally, we look ahead to the future with New Year's resolutions for the Hornets in 2026. We discuss why the front office needs to keep an open mind about major roster renovations and not fall in love with the "good bones" of the current team if they want to truly compete in the playoffs.

The Charlotte Hornets put up a fight but fell short in a defensive struggle against the Cleveland Cavaliers, losing 139-130. Host Doug Branson recaps a game defined by high effort but low execution, where Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell proved too much for Charlotte's perimeter defense. We analyze the defensive shortcomings and ask the hard questions about whether a core of LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Kon Knueppel can defend well enough to contend in the playoffs.

Speaking of Kon Knueppel, the rookie sensation continues to rewrite the record books. We look at his surge to 100 made three-pointers and his climb up The Ringer’s NBA player rankings, where he now sits just behind Cooper Flagg. Is he already the most reliable offensive option on the team?

Finally, we open the Sicko Satchel for a holiday-themed mailbag. We debate the greatest General Manager and Head Coach in Hornets history—giving Bob Bass and Paul Silas their flowers. We also address realistic trade scenarios for Miles Bridges and investigate whether officials truly allow more physical play against LaMelo Ball than other stars.

It is a festive edition of the Locked On Hornets podcast as Walker Mehl goes solo to deliver the "12 Gifts of Christmas" straight from the Spectrum Center. The holiday special begins with a deep look at rookie sensation Kon Knueppel, who is not just sniping from deep but dominating as the team's most efficient driver. We examine how his passing out of drives and record-breaking three-point pace are reshaping the Hornets' offense and placing him in elite company with Steph Curry.

Next, the spotlight turns to "Ten Lords a Leaping," focusing on the players who have made the biggest jumps this season. Tidjane Salaun’s resurgence after a stint in Greensboro takes center stage, along with Moussa Diabaté’s undeniable impact in the paint. We also address the elephant in the room with "Eight Maids a Milking," tackling the exhaustion surrounding LaMelo Ball’s injury narratives and trade rumors. Finally, we celebrate the "Bench Gems" keeping the squad afloat and the "Two Turtledoves" connection blossoming between LaMelo and Kon. Celebrate the holidays with a comprehensive look at what makes this Hornets season a gift to watch.

We return to ask the big question: Was the victory over the Atlanta Hawks the most significant win of the season? While the Raptors game might have been the defensive peak, the guys argue that this performance offered the first true "proof of concept" for the new era of Hornets basketball. LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Kon Knueppel finally shared the floor in a way that showcased the team's explosive offensive ceiling, with Ball demonstrating a willingness to adapt his game for the greater good.

The conversation shifts to the numbers, revealing that Charlotte has quietly been a top-10 team in point differential and defense over the last two weeks. We explore whether this recent stretch, capped by LaMelo's return, signals a permanent shift in the team's trajectory or just a fleeting moment of health. Finally, the "Sicko Brigade" checks in with their celebrations. Join us for a celebratory Friday edition as we look ahead to tough tests against Detroit and Orlando.

The Charlotte Hornets stay in the win column after a thrilling 133-126 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Walker Mehl and Doug Branson react live to LaMelo Ball’s electric return to the court. LaMelo looked like his All-Star self, pouring in 28 points and closing out the game with a personal 7-0 run. But he wasn't alone—Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel also flirted with 30-point nights, showcasing the terrifying potential of Charlotte's new "Bee Three." The offense was humming, racking up 39 assists and flirting with franchise records in a blistering first half.

We analyze how the dynamic between Ball, Miller, and Knueppel changes the geometry of the floor, creating open looks and "hooper's paradise" moments. Kon Knueppel continues to impact winning, recovering from rookie mistakes with game-saving hustle plays that you have to see to believe. While the offense shined, we also touch on the defensive lapses and a concerning physical drop-off from Moussa Diabate. Plus, we read your comments from the "Sicko Brigade" as the Hornets finally find the joy in basketball again.
