Locked On Jaguars - Daily Podcast On The Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars don't need a QB. Yeah, I know, Richard Sherman thinks otherwise. But we don't. And not needing that position in a draft full of QB prospects that could go in round 1 helps the team tremendously. It allows the value of the pick to be higher for trade or to grab a player they normally would be out of range for because teams will reach for the QB spot. We explain that here:

From poor drafting to acting like a coach on the field during practice and more, Trent Baalke doesn't have what it takes to lead the Jacksonville Jaguars from where they are and have been for a long time. No other franchise in professional sports has a worse winning percentage than the Jags over the last decade, 40% of which Trent has been an executive in some capacity, the last 3 plus years he's run football operations. The Jacksonville Jaguars have not fare well beyond the 1st round in most years over the last decade. Good teams find essential players in every phase of talent acquisition. For the Jaguars, that must change to be successful like the teams that win often do. We name 10 guys that we believe are potential players to out-play their ranking at this point who may be day 3 type additions for the team to examine.

We have created a pre-combine Top 32 BIG-BOARD as we get closer to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. I named prospects in order based on a mix of likelihood to be successful, gut feeling, and personal choices based on things I like. It does not take into consideration needs for specific teams. Also, buying in free agency is good, but not at positions that are deep in the draft, and I explain why.

This is a deep draft at positions of need for the Jaguars, so trading back could be an option.

So much focus is on the first round and the 17th pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars that some forget the gold of Day 2. So many legends and players that have been critical to teams' success were picked there, I had to do a day 2 wish list for the Jaguars. Keep in mind, the team will be without a pick due to the Calvin Ridley deal, but circumstances have yet to determine or clarify which round the selection will come from. That makes it even more critical.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in no position to cherry pick based on needs in the upcoming draft. That is for free agency. Because it's more exact since you sign proven players, I believe free agency is where positional needs should be addressed. My thoughts on the draft have never changed that you just take the best non QB (if you're committed to one) when it's your turn to pick. Unpopular as that may be, I explain it here:

New Jacksonville Jaguars Defensive Coordinator Ryan Nielsen nailed his introductory presser today. Every single point he made sounded genuine and he seemed to hit all the areas of concern with the right answers. Players will be put in position to succeed over scheme. This is music to the ears of fans and me. Man will be the coverage according to Nielsen. Tackling will be at a premium, and guys will be attacking down hill. Games must be played, but on day 1 with the media, Ryan hit a homerun.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are now joined by EVERYONE in the off-season now that all the games have been played. This means free agency and the NFL Draft season is around the corner. So are the hot takes, good and bad. It's time for garbage in, garbage out. We discuss how to stay sane and to not get put in a blender with information/disinformation over the next couple of months.

The fans want the Jacksonville Jaguars to select an interior Offensive Lineman. The fans wanted another pass rusher last year, and the team took OT Anton Harrison, who turned out to be a big hit. With many needs and free agency before the draft, I anticipate the lines of scrimmage will be addressed with veterans. I believe in round 1 it will be best player available that isn't a QB. Listen as I go through the scenario.
