Locked On Raptors - Daily Podcast On The Toronto Raptors

In Episode 979, Sean chats with Chris Manning and Evan Dammarell of Locked On Cavs about Jarrett Allen's pending free agency. They first talk about why the Raptors could be a contender to land Allen if a bidding war breaks out, and why he'd fit so nicely in Toronto as the team's new starting center. Then they chat about what Allen's market might bear in terms of years and money, and whether the Raptors' estimated ~$23 million in cap space would be enough to work with on an offer sheet. Lastly, they talk about how the Cavs potential selection of Evan Mobley third-overall could impact the team's desire to bring Allen back. It's a good episode!

They then dig into the specifics of the 103-101 loss to the Czechs, which was a truly outstanding basketball game if you were a neutral observer. Lastly, they talk about Jalen Harris, and why his suspension for a positive test for a "drug of abuse" is absolutely bogus, and lays bare the NBA's out of whack priorities when it comes to which types of infractions receive suspensions versus which ones do not.

In Episode 975, Sean and Dakota Schmidt (Ridiculous Upside) talk all about Jonathan Kuminga, maybe the most intriguing guy in the Raptors range of the draft. They kick things off with a look at his wildly inefficient season with the G-League Ignite, where he turned in a sub-50 True Shooting percentage, all the while flashing some tantalizing tools. They then chat about the potential fit with the Raptors, how his selection could help the Raptors becoming trend-setters within the league once again, and why ultimately the Raptors' timeline could rule out an 18-year-old project like Kuminga from being taken 4th. Lastly, they look at the strengths and weaknesses in Kuminga's game at present, and try to determine which growth areas could be addressed by the right development staff. Colour me intrigued by Jonathan Kuminga!

In Episode 973, Sean and Katie Heindl perform a thought exercise all about Ben Simmons, and whether or not he could be maximized by the Raptors. They kick things off by chatting about the player Simmons is now, how they value him as a piece on a contending team, and whether he's doomed to be an offensive liability in a league that continues to value scoring more every year. Next, they chat about his potential fit with the Raptors, and whether there could be a role for him as a small-ball five or playmaking four, as well as all the challenges his deficiencies present to the art of lineup construction. Lastly, they talk about the trade packages they'd be comfortable offering up, and the probability that any best Raptors offer will still come in below Philly's expectations.

In Episode 972, Sean takes questions from the listeners on the upcoming NBA Draft and the Raptors' options with the 4th-overall pick. First he digs into the trio of Evan Mobley, Jalen Suggs and Jalen Green, and whether the Raptors should be content to pick whomever falls to them, or maybe try to trade up to ensure they get their guy. Then, there's a question about the potentially chemistry concerns with adding a highly touted prospect to an already established roster where he won't be the team's best player from Day 1. Plus, Sean digs into questions about who he prefers between the two Jalens right now, trade possibilities, and Toronto as a potential landing spot for Ben Simmons.

In Episode 970, Sean goes solo on the morning of the Draft Lottery to discuss what's at stake for the Raptors tonight. He kicks off with a look at how a stay at 7th or a slight fall would be disappointing, but by no means a bad outcome in a draft as talented as this year's, before digging into how franchise-altering a move up to #1 really would be. Next Sean talks about the many avenues a move into the 2-4 range could open up, and why there really would be no bad choice between taking one of the top-5 prospects or flipping the pick in a trade for a more established star. Lastly, Sean digs into the choice of Fred VanVleet to represent the Raptors on the lottery stage, and why it is a decision that carries with it good vibes. All that, plus the final Tankathon Sim of the Day of the year, and some thoughts on which other teams would be noble lottery winners if the Raptors don't luck out.
