Locked On Raptors - Daily Podcast On The Toronto Raptors

In Episode 850, Sean is joined by Brad Vermunt (Too Much Hoops) to review the Raptors' final preseason game before diving deep into what the Raptors' defense may look like with Aron Baynes and a committee replacing Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka at center. First, they get giddy over Kyle Lowry's easy 25 points in his first game action since the playoffs before reflecting on the Raptors' final roster moves that saw Oshae Brissett waived and Paul Watson (full NBA deal) and Yuta Watanabe (Two-Way) signed by the team. Next, they address whether the loss of Gasol and Ibaka will necessitate a change in the Raptors' defensive identity as Aron Baynes, Chris Boucher, Alex Len and OG Anunoby figure to take over the lion's share of center minutes for the team. Lastly, they try to predict where the Raptors' defense will end up in the league hierarchy.

In Episode 847, Sean and Ashley Docking quickly hit on yesterday's news regarding the Raptors allowing fans in the stands in Tampa Bay and the leaked Earned edition jersey before looking at the next steps for the team now that Giannis Antetokounmpo is staying with the Bucks long term. Fans in the stands? Bad idea. The Earned jersey? Bleh. The plan now that Toronto's Plan A for 2021 is out the window? Well, that's a lot more interesting. Sean and Ashley dive into whether the Giannis news dampened their spirits regarding the future of the team and whether the careful hoarding of cap space for next summer was worth what was sacrificed. Then they dive into potential paths the Raptors can take forward, from still hunting free agent fish, trading for a star, or staying the course with the core they have on board. That discussion, of course, veers into a full breakdown of the merits of looking to pull off a James Harden trade, something Ashley is decidedly more into than Sean.

In Episode 846, Sean reacts to the Raptors' 112-109 win over the Hornets in preseason action, as well as the news that Giannis Antetokounmpo has signed the super max extension to stay in Milwaukee. Sean kicks things off first by discussing Malachi Flynn, whose 17 points on Monday and two-straight rock solid preseason efforts have Sean convinced that Flynn should be in the rotation from day one of the season. Next, we hear from Nick Nurse who had some interesting post-game comments about DeAndre' Bembry, Flynn, Chris Boucher and Matt Thomas. Lastly, Sean looks at the short-term ramifications of the Giannis super max, particularly when it comes to OG Anunoby's potential contract extension.

In Episode 845, Sean and Jordan Hayles (@MR_STiXX) recap the Raptors' 111-100 win over the Hornets in their preseason opener. They kick things off by talking about OG Anunoby and his 11-point, five-rebound effort, in which he flashed a new and improved handle. Next they dive into the contributions of Malachi Flynn and Matt Thomas, both of whom staked a claim to regular rotation spots on Saturday. Lastly, they rapid fire through the games of the rest of the team, including Norman Powell, Alex Len, and more before addressing the fact that Terence Davis' standing within the team still seems to be unaffected by his ongoing domestic assault case.

In Episode 844, Sean goes solo again to consider what might constitute a successful season for the Raptors in 2020-21. He first discusses finding the balance of winning as many games as possible while also developing Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby and Fred VanVleet, and whether those dueling agendas can in fact go hand-in-hand. Next, Sean considers another avenue to success, which revolves around doing everything possible to maximize what could be the final season of Kyle Lowry in Toronto -- a road that probably involves maximizing wins and maybe even making a mid-season move for a substantial rental. To close things out, Sean hits on the things he's most excited to watch in the Raptors' preseason opener against the Hornets tomorrow.

In Episode 843, Sean goes solo to react to the Open Gym in the Bubble special that began running Wednesday night before addressing the question of who will earn the last couple spots in Nick Nurse's rotation. On the question of the rotation, after Nick Nurse suggested that he'd like to run with a defined eighth man this season, Sean constructs what he thinks should be a rock solid top eight, before diving into the group of five guys who are likely to contend for the ninth and tenth spots in the hierarchy.

In Episode 842, Sean and Chris Manning (Locked On Cavs) attempt to predict the finishing order of the stacked top-six in the Eastern Conference. Does Boston have enough to weather the loss of Gordon Hayward and Kemba Walker's troublesome knee? Are the Nets likely to coalesce in time to win a bunch of games? Might the Heat be extremely tired after their long post-season run and quick turnaround? How will the Sixers look now that they finally have a sensible starting five? Just about the only things that feel certain about the East are that the Bucks and Raptors are going to continue to win a bunch -- but what it it mean for their post-season outlooks? We discuss!

In Episode 841, Sean and Joe Wolfond (The Score) team up to talk about OG Anunoby ahead of what could be his true breakout season. They kick things off by talking about his defense, which is the known quantity of his game that should earn him All-Defense and fringe Defensive Player of the Year consideration. Next they take a look at his offense, and discuss some of the ways in which he can improve on that end of the floor, in addition to attempting to pin down the exact role the Raptors may use him in during a transitional season. Lastly, they discuss his current contract situation, and try to figure out which awards he may in fact be considered for by season's end.
