The Buffalo Sabres won their first game of the western road trip in Vegas, on the back of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen getting his first shutout of the season, in one of the greatest games of his career. UPL was dialed from the beginning, stopping point blank shots on Jack Eichel and others, stopping one timers across the ice, and even stopping pucks that were deflected. He was flawless. UPL's game now puts the Sabres duo of he and Alex Lyon atop the league as, statistically, one of, if not the best goalie tandem in the NHL. If they both continue to play this well, they're both going to have to play in the playoffs. Plus, Josh Doan's goal showed off every skill in his game, as he now has the same amount of goals, but more points than JJ Peterka. And the win over the Golden Knights now puts the Sabres in a tie atop the standings in the East with Carolina!

Owen Power is on track to record a career low in points this season and is yet again the subject of constant debate in group chats and social media for Buffalo Sabres fans. Is he good? Is he great? Is he terrible? This may be the hardest season to answer that question as Power's role has changed with much more defensive responsibility and less offensive insulation. Power's lack of physicality continues, but he also continues to be a very strong possession player despite that. Playing with Bo Byram has helped this year, but Power is still playing with lesser partners more than Rasmus Dahlin and Mattias Samuelsson. Plus, a preview of the Sabres matchup with the Golden Knights, who are not a great team, despite their place in the standings.

The Buffalo Sabres have five defensemen that are all competing for two spots on the bottom pairing down the stretch and into the playoffs. Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn are the new guys, but does that mean they'll automatically get the benefit of the doubt? Stanley has looked better than Schenn, who Sneaky Joe does not believe will factor into playoff lineups. Zach Metsa still has an incredible run of 5-on-5 success going, but his lack of special teams usage makes him a tough candidate to get playing time. And with Conor Timmins returning to the picture, could he carve out a spot due to his penalty killing? Michael Kesselring appears to be the guy that best fits the Sabres system, but health has continued to be a concern. Plus, a look at some of the Lightning stats since the Olympic break shows they're not getting unlucky in their losses, they're just getting outplayed.

With one month to go in the regular season, Lindy Ruff has an incoming decision to make regarding who will be his starting goalie in the playoffs. Alex Lyon or Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. Lyon has been better this season, but with what the team has invested in UPL, will Lyon get the net to himself? Or will it be a rotation? Lindy's history includes plenty of examples where he chose one guy and rode with him, but there is a Lindy team that rotated goalies in the playoffs in Dallas. Will UPL play his way out of the playoff rotation? Plus, the matchup with the Washington Capitals, and whether we should actually want the Lightning to beat the Red Wings.

There was no "let down" to be found when the Buffalo Sabres took the ice against the San Jose Sharks, especially when it came to the line of Jack Quinn, Ryan McLeod, and Jason Zucker. Quinn nets a hat-trick, crossing the 40-point mark for the first time in his NHL career. That line has been unbelievable for weeks and they carried the Sabres with four goals as a line. Is it time to give the McLeod line a nickname!?! Lindy Ruff shook up the rest of the lineup, and maybe got closer to the way the lines will look when we reach the playoffs. Will Zach Benson remain on a top line?
Plus, Logan Stanley's Sabres debut featured a big fight. And the Tampa Bay Lightning lose again, making it six of seven for them. What is wrong with the Lightning, and are the Sabres about to pull away in the Atlantic Division race? Their lead now stands at four points after the Blue Jackets beat the Lightning 5-2.

In the fallout from the insane Sabres win over the Lightning, Brandon Hagel was fined a measly $5K for punching Rasmus Dahlin repeatedly in the back of the head. No ejection, no suspension for attacking the Sabres captain. With such a light punishment, it's up to the Sabres to serve justice the next time these teams play on April 6th. Will Logan Stanley or anyone else on the Sabres roster go after Hagel? It's certainly warranted. Plus, Sneaky Joe sees a strength the Sabres have that can take advantage of Tampa in a playoff series. The Lightning have a big slow blueline and the Sabres have a fast young forward group. It's reminiscent of the Flyers blueline in 2006 that got boat-raced by that fast Sabres team. Also, why we should be rooting against the Ottawa Senators making the playoffs.

The Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Bay Lightning played one of the best hockey games we've seen played in a decade, and it certainly was the best one played at KeyBank Center. The Sabres crowd was electric from start to finish in an atmosphere that rivals the 2006 playoffs. It was loud from beginning to end. The game featured over 100 penalty minutes, most sparked by Tampa players going after Sabres players with dirty plays, especially attacking Rasmus Dahlin and Tage Thompson. The Sabres answered the bell defending their best players. We also got crazy comebacks, from the Lightning's three goal comeback in the 2nd period, to the Sabres two goal comeback in the 3rd to win the game. It was an incredible game from Josh Doan, Tage Thompson, Rasmus Dahlin, and plenty of other players. One difference in the game was Lindy Ruff getting his guys to play the game, while Jon Cooper could never get a handle on his.

The Buffalo Sabres have made their first couple trades before the NHL trade deadline, landing depth defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn from the Winnipeg Jets. Two enormous defenseman who figure to play on the Sabres third pair going forward. Despite adding defensive depth, neither player projects to help the Sabres much come postseason time. Stanley is a rare combination of size, physicality, meanness, but also very poor defensive performance. Did Jarmo Kekalainen only acquire Luke Schenn to help trade for his brother Brayden Schenn? Plus, the Sabres get center Sam Carrick from the New York Rangers, helping them in one area they struggle a lot, the face-off circle. Is Carrick going to be the guy Lindy Ruff puts on the ice late in games to close out a lead?

The Buffalo Sabres and St. Louis Blues agreed on a trade that would send Colton Parayko to the Sabres in exchange for prospect defenseman Radim Mrtka and a 1st round pick, but Parayko exercised his no-trade clause to block the move. The reporting is he will only waive his clause to stay out west on a team like Anaheim or Los Angeles. How bad a look is this for the Sabres? Fans are not happy that the team still finds themselves in a situation where it's hard to convince players to come to Buffalo. Jarmo Kekäläinen very clearly is trying to make a big trade by Friday's NHL trade deadline. If it's not going to be Parayko, and it's not going to be Robert Thomas, who else is out there? Is there another Blue? What about Devils defenseman Simon Nemec? There is a very real chance the biggest trade the Sabres make is for Rasmus Ristolainen.

The Buffalo Sabres were in hot pursuit of Blues #1 center Robert Thomas and still could end up pulling off the trade, despite reports that talks have cooled for the time being. Sneaky Joe's favorite trade idea could end up coming true! There is some talk of an even bigger MEGA trade idea that would include Thomas and Colton Parayko coming to Buffalo in the same deal. Is Jarmo swinging too big and is it risking acquiring Thomas, by chasing a defenseman at the same time? What the trade pursuit proves is that Kekäläinen is not just showing up to the playoffs to take part, he's showing up to take over, and shoot for the Stanley Cup. Plus, the Sabres win over the Golden Knights was a tale of two halves. A dominant start, followed by a flat end, that still results in two points.
