Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints intend to interview Pittsburgh Steelers QB coach Mike Sullivan for their open offensive coordinator position. But hiring him would be the most uninspiring possibility from the search list. The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't properly found a way to develop quarterbacks, nor do they have much success to lean on when it comes to the offense and Sullivan's offenses with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants weren't very inspiring either.

Dan Pitcher is staying with the Cincinnati Bengals as their newest offensive coordinator after Brian Callahan took over the Tennessee Titans head coaching job. But it truly isn't the biggest lost for New Orleans based on the Bengals' style and usage of motion in particular.

The New Orleans Saints need an offensive coordinator like 49ers PGC Klint Kubiak, but he'll have to prove his development in his interview. Things didn't go well for him with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. So what strides has he made in making sure that he's ready for another opportunity as an NFL play caller. And one name could make all the difference: Kyle Shanahan.

With Brian Griese and Ronald Curry also getting interviews, the Saints may be closer than most realize to making their hire. Their OC search has been extensive and exhaustive. But are they taking too long?

The New Orleans Saints have some solid offensive coordinator candidates, but options like Jon Gruden don't make sense for the franchise. Much like Gruden wouldn't be a good choice for New Orleans, the Saints may not be good options for some popular candidates like Joe Brady and Eric Bienemy.

New Orleans has great candidates already lined up for interviews like Zac Robinson, Jerrod Johnson, and Dan Pitcher. Holding out for unlikely candidates that won't have as positive impacts would not be a good use of time.

The New Orleans Saints have aligned themselves with another home run candidate in Houston Texans QB coach Jerrod Johnson. He was fantastic with C.J. Stroud and Kirk Cousins in his QB coach experience and has had time working with coaches from each the Frank Reich tree (Reich himself), Sean McVay tree (Kevin O'Connell) and the Kyle Shanahan tree (Demeco Ryans and Bobby Slowik).

The Saints would have trouble landing a legitimate playmaker in this year's 2024 NFL draft were the selection process to begin today. Obviously the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine will change things, but for now, New Orleans will do best if they stay put targeting the trenches. Oregon State OT Taliese Fuaga would be a fantastic selection at 14 to help anchor their offensive line for the future.

The New Orleans Saints have a lot to offer a too offensive coordinator candidate like Zac Robinson or Shane Waldron. Between Derek Carr, Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, Alvin Kamara and Juwan Johnson, the team has the right playmakers, and with an uncertain future at head coach beyond 2024, they could provide the right opportunity for a candidate looking for advancement.

Was Mickey Loomis' comparison of Dennis Allen to hall of fame head coaches like Bill Belichick (future HOFer), Chuck Nuhl and others the right move?

The New Orleans Saints have chosen the right candidates to start their Offensive Coordinator search. With Zac Robinson, Shane Waldron and Dan Pitcher are all branches off the Sean McVay, Los Angeles Rams tree. Robinson's work with Matthew Stafford informs us of the success he could find with Derek Carr, meanwhile Zac Taylor's pure dropback offense may provide limitation for Pitcher.

Mickey Loomis is not going to see his role change with the Saints front offense. What that means for Khai Harley and Jeff Ireland and Loomis doesn't deny that there could be more coaching staff changes coming after parting ways with Pete Carmichael and more staff.

The New Orleans Saints made the tough decision to move on from Pete Carmichael and get into the offensive coordinator search. It's the right choice for the Saints' roster and playmakers and for Dennis Allen who goes into his last chance with the Saints in his third year. There are several great candidates out there in this year's NFL coaching cycle.

Along with Carmichael, the Saints moved on from Kodi Burns and Bob Bicknell while Joel Thomas took the same running backs coach role with the New York Giants. And could the Saints be looking at a shift for Mickey Loomis and Khai Harley at general manager? Seems like a longshot, but something to watch.

The New Orleans Saints are in the market for an offensive coordinator for the first time in over a decade and there are outstanding candidates ready to take the helm. If the Saints want to see their offense improve from Pete Carmichael's 2022 and 2023, candidates like Zac Robinson, Klint Kubiak and Brian Hartline shoudl be atop their list along with the inside hire of Ronald Curry.

Jon Gruden of course is till connected to the team as well.

It's feeling like the New Orleans Saints are not long from making big moves on their coaching staff, and the offensive side of the ball, starting with Pete Carmichael is under the microscope. Could we see changes on the way for the Saints? How Jon Gruden and Ronald Curry fit in and what kinds of changes could we see on the way?

Along with OC, the Saint should be looking to add more speed on their defensive line, improve their offensive line and perhaps even brace for a big trade or two. If the team is daring enough to take the risk of moving Marshon Lattimore, every team will be interested and the Saints need to make it worth it. Thankfully, there's no rush and the Saints themselves should be looking to strike a deal not to move him out, but get him on board and keep him in the building.

The New Orleans Saints should be backing offensive coordinator change and other shift soon, including Pete Carmichael. Whether or not Jon Gruden will be a part of the search remains to be seen, but Derek Carr, Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and A.T. Perry warrant top-level play selection and offensive system.

ULCA Edge rusher Laiatu Latu is the prototypical player that can make the Saints finally hit on a first-round edge rusher again after missing on Marcus Davenport and the jury still out on Payton Turner.
