Fall camp is right around the corner for the Arizona State Sun Devils football program and we all find ourselves both optimistic and pessimistic at the same time about this new-look team. There have been a lot of changes to both sides of the ball whether it was via the 2022 NFL Draft or the NCAA transfer portal losses, but the Arizona State Sun Devils football program has also done a good job to amend some of its losses. For starters, defensive end Travez Moore is returning from injury and told the Twitter world that he is cleared for football and is primed for fall camp. Meanwhile, the Arizona State Sun Devils nabbed another JUCO prospect, this time in the form of linebacker James Djonkam from Independence (KS) Community College. What could these guys' additions be for the Arizona State Sun Devils football team in 2022? We're here to talk about that on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

With some time to digest the news that the USC Trojans and the UCLA Bruins will be departing from the PAC-12 conference in 2024 to join the Big-Ten conference, we can begin understanding why the move came to be and also assess what we think the Arizona State Sun Devils should do regarding its own future in the PAC-12. Would Arizona State University be wise to depart the PAC-12 conference in favor of joining its California rivals in the Big-Ten conference? Could the Big-12 conference be an option as well? These are all questions we have come to recognize and have conversations about and number one friend of the podcast and All Sun Devils expert Donnie Druin joins host Richie Bradshaw to discuss his thoughts on the news and what the future might hold for both the PAC-12 conference and Arizona State University.

The Arizona State Sun Devils football program is all but brand new looking in 2022 and the defensive side of the ball returns very few proven players from 2021. With linebackers Merlin Robertson and Kyle Soelle leading the charge, the Arizona State Sun Devils defense will rotate a lot of new faces this year as they try to get by in 2022. There is plenty of excitement for breakout potential players like BJ Green and Jordan Clark, while incoming transfer Khoury Bethley is hoping to steal the show in his first season in Tempe, Arizona. Beyond these few names, however, very little is known about reasonable expectations to be set. Who are some of the players who fans aren't talking enough about or maybe even aren't aware of who could have big-time roles in 2022? Michael Matus, Connor Soelle, and Chris Edmonds are a few guys who host Richie Bradshaw dives into detail over for this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

Arizona State Sun Devils fans are accustomed to names like Emory Jones, Daniyel Ngata, Xazavien Valladay, and Cam Johnson as offensive players that we expect to make important contributions on offense for the Arizona State Sun Devils football program in 2022. We're also aware of some of the lesser-known guys like Andre Johnson and Bryan Thompson who are looking to make comeback seasons for themselves after disappointing 2021 seasons. There is tons of opportunity for just about every player on offense for the Arizona State Sun Devils, but who are some sleeper guys who could have larger roles and bigger production than fans may be thinking they're capable of in 2022? The Arizona State Sun Devils' offense has often used three running backs, meaning a guy like Deonce Elliott or Tevin White could prove valuable for the team. Meanwhile, there are tons of opportunities in the passing game for guys like tight end Jalin Conyers or wide receivers like Chad Johnson Jr. to finally step into a larger role for the team. Host Richie Bradshaw gives his thoughts on three Arizona State Sun Devil football players who could end up with larger roles and contributions to the team in 2022 than their current expectations may be.

What would we consider fair expectations for the Arizona State Sun Devils football team in 2022, particularly on the offensive side of the ball? The team is having to replace its starting quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, and a tight end with not much proven talent returning from the 2021 squad. Sure, we are excited about the potential of quarterback Emory Jones and wide receiver Cam Johnson from the Florida Gators and Vanderbilt Commodores respectively to have big roles for the Arizona State Sun Devils offense in 2022, but what is returning that should give us hope? Bryan Thompson showed flashes during his time with the Utah Utes but did very little in his first season in Tempe, Arizona. An intriguing option at wide receiver for the Sun Devils would be Andre Johnson. Johnson has shown the capability to be a deep threat for Arizona State and we are hoping that he can finally put a full season together and build off that same potential. Host Richie Bradshaw gives his predictions on the third-year receiver's stats and gives some praise about what he could do in a larger role in this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

As the PAC-12 conference continues to face uncertainties about its future, it's time for the current members of the self-proclaimed "conference of champions" to begin to look beyond their borders and towards new horizons. Naturally, our beloved Arizona State Sun Devils need to be weighing their options moving forward. Should Arizona State University decide to vacate the PAC-12 conference, two of the biggest possibilities to move to would be the Big Ten conference and the Big 12 conference. The Big Ten conference just added the USC Trojans and the UCLA Bruins, so there is some familiarity there, while the Big 12 conference makes more sense regionally and could actually be looking to create a merger with the PAC-12 conference as it is. Beyond a move, could staying in the PAC-12 conference also make sense? Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't, and athletic director Ray Anderson's comments about Arizona State University's commitment to the conference could have some validity to it. With these three possibilities in mind, host Richie Bradshaw gives an explanation and detail into the thought process of these three scenarios for our Arizona State Sun Devils on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

The PAC-12 conference hasn't exactly been a heavy-weight sports conference for quite some time now. Sure, you have the Oregon Ducks and Utah Utes of the world, but the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins have underachieved considering their past successes. At the same time, other programs like the Arizona State Sun Devils, University of Arizona Wildcats, Washington Huskies, Washington State Cougars, and Stanford Cardinal do enough to stay afloat and the "best of the rest," being the University of California Golden Bears, Oregon State Beavers, and Colorado Buffaloes kind of just existing in the conference. As if this "good enough" conference wasn't being overlooked enough, two programs have opted to depart the PAC-12 conference altogether, with the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins headed to the BIG-10 conference in 2024. Calling this earth-shattering would be an understatement.
Not that we are ones for shouting that the sky is falling, but these two departures could just be the start for the PAC-12. The BIG-10 is also reportedly looking at Oregon and Washington, as well. If they jump ship as well, what will be left for the remainder of the conference? The ten schools still in the conference past 2024 (for now) should probably start looking for a new conference to join, and this should include our beloved Arizona State Sun Devils. Host Richie Bradshaw gives a heartfelt opinion on the state of the once-proud and self-proclaimed "conference of champions" and what our Arizona State Sun Devils should be thinking about over the next couple of years on this important edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

Someone has to step up in the passing game for the Arizona State Sun Devils football program this year. Will it be incoming transfer Cam Johnson from the Vanderbilt Commodores football team? Will it be third-year man Andre Johnson, who has shown flashes throughout his tenure in Tempe, Arizona to excite fans over his potential? Or could it be Bryan Thompson in his second season with the Arizona State Sun Devils football team after coming to the program from the Utah Utes football team? Thompson may be coming off a lackluster season at best, but host Richie Bradshaw believes that Thompson's 2021 output is not indicative of what he can do with a larger role. Thompson will likely see a much bigger role than he did in 2021 and that could be good news for the Sun Devils given his big-play prowess back with the Utes. What exactly could we see from Thompson in 2022? We discuss this and give some stat predictions for the sixth-year receiver in this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

There is a lot of unfamiliarity and uncertainty facing the Arizona State Sun Devils football program and that is especially true for the team's passing offense. Gone are wide receivers Ricky Pearsall, LV Bunkley-Shelton, and Johnny Wilson via the NCAA transfer portal, as well as running back Rachad White and tight end Curtis Hodges, both of whom had big roles in the team's passing offense in 2021, via the 2022 NFL Draft. Returning are Bryan Thompson and Andre Johnson as the Arizona State Sun Devils' most established wide receivers, although the two combined for just 25 receptions a season ago. While we are optimistic about the two taking a step forward in 2022, our eyes are fixated on incoming transfer wide receiver Cam Johnson from the Vanderbilt Commodores football program. Johnson has shown the ability to be a crafty and elusive receiver when the ball is in his hands and has the sure-hands necessary to be a go-to option in any team's passing game. Johnson may be a breath of fresh air that the Arizona State Sun Devils football program is desperate for and could perhaps prove to be the team's number one receiver in 2022. Host Richie Bradshaw breaks down the fifth-year receiver and gives stat predictions for the former SEC wide receiver in his first season with the Arizona State Sun Devils.

The Arizona State Sun Devils football program has a lot of new faces on the offense thanks to transfers both in and out of the program. Looking at the backfield alone, last year's dynamic duo of Rachaad White and Deamonte Chip Trayanum is gone, and replacing them is third-year man Daniyel Ngata and incoming transfer Xazavien Valladay via the Wyoming Cowboys football program. Of the two, it's the latter, Valladay, who should have Sun Devils fans' attention. Valladay is a two-time 1,000-yard runner during his four seasons in Laramie, Wyoming and he'll certainly be looking to repeat that production in Tempe, Arizona. Where the Arizona State Sun Devils football program will need Valladay the most, however, will be as a receiver. Based off his resume with the Wyoming Cowboys football team, Valladay could be exactly what the Sun Devils need. Host Richie Bradshaw makes some predictions on what Valladay's stats could look like for our beloved Arizona State Sun Devils football team in 2022 with his versatility that reminds us of the aforementioned Rachaad White.
