Locked On Suns - Daily Podcast On The Phoenix Suns

We can’t get enough of the NFL this week so we we crossed over into football for a day. The future of Valley sports is bright, thanks in large part to Devin Booker and Kyler Murray, but which franchise cornerstone is more promising right now?

We revisit our debate from the fall looking at both young stars from their team’s point of view. How should the Arizona Cardinals avoid the mistakes the Phoenix Suns saw early on in Booker's career?

All of that, plus much more, in this fun episode for sports fans during NFL draft week. We finish by picking which player is the better franchise star at this point in time.

With the sports world in limbo, we had the chance to speak to Suns GM James Jones and head coach Monty Williams for a conference call on the 2020 season. From what happens next with the NBA’s schedule, Devin Booker, and draft prep, there is lots to go over.

Is Point Book the best idea long-term for this Suns team? We believe so, and it should’ve been utilized more often in 2019-20. Williams seemed to admit that as well.

All of this, plus much more, in a jam-packed episode! Everything you need to get caught up on the latest with the Suns and the NBA.

The 2005-06 Phoenix Suns season stands out as one of the big what-ifs in franchise history. During the 7SOL era, this team stood out for its resilience without Amar’e Stoudemire. The brilliance of Steve Nash campaign was easily noticeable on rewatch, too.

We went back and watched parts of Phoenix’s playoff run against the Lakers, Clippers and Mavericks. Boris Diaw’s underrated run continues to stand out, but fatigue reared its ugly head in the end.

If Stoudemire was never hurt, does this Suns team win an NBA championship?

Brendon is joined by Jack McCallum, the longtime Sports Illustrated NBA reporter and author of the definitive book on the Seven Seconds or Less Suns, “:07 Seconds or Less,” to revisit his time with Steve Nash, Mike D’Antoni and the most fun team in Suns history.

We discuss whether a book like this could ever be written now, why the playoff run solidified the season as one worth writing about, and Jack’s fondest memories of reporting on this group.

We also dive into Jack’s memories of modern Suns figures like James Jones and Robert Sarver, in addition to Jack’s biggest regret in writing the book and whether Steve Nash should have won the 2005-06 MVP award.

Of course, there’s much more. Don’t miss this one!

Closing out our 1992-93 Phoenix Suns week here on the podcast, we rewatched three of the biggest games of the 1993 playoffs.

From the comeback victory in San Antonio to Charles Barkley out-dueling Shawn Kemp to John Paxson’s unforgettable Game 6 dagger, there were lots of fun memories to sort through.

Closing it out, we discuss the 99-98 loss to the Chicago Bulls in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen controlled the game, but a late comeback attempt by Phoenix came so close.

All throughout this week, we will talk through one of the best seasons in franchise history for the Phoenix Suns. When Charles Barkley was acquired via trade, it turned Phoenix into a juggernaut.

Not only did Barkley go on to win MVP, but this Suns team helped revolutionize the game utilizing a small-ball lineup way ahead of its time.

It’s time to go down memory lane, Suns fans. Hope you enjoy, and stay tuned for an even deeper dive on Wednesday and Friday!

P.S. Make sure to leave your favorite memories of the season in a review or on Twitter!

From offensive upside to rim protection and staying healthy, we put Ayton under the microscope on this episode to find out what could happen next entering 2020-2021.

Kellan Olson of Arizona Sports joins the show again as we continue our Suns Player Profiles by hitting the team’s new starting point guard, Ricky Rubio, who was basically everything the team wanted in 2019-20.

However, injuries held him back, and it’s obvious the Suns need to find him a backup. We discuss how the Suns can continue to maximize Rubio next season.

We finish by discussing the best minutes range for Rubio next year and how he can be even better if the team adds more shooting.
