Locked On Wolves - Daily Podcast On The Minnesota Timberwolves

At least two Minnesota Timberwolves players will have role changes next year: Josh Minott and Kyle Anderson. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) breaks down why last year's exciting, athletic second-round pick, Josh Minott, will be an important piece of the Wolves' rotation and potentially could fill minutes vacated by Taurean Prince and/or Naz Reid if either (or both) veterans move on. Also, Kyle Anderson played a lot more power forward last year and initiated quite a bit of offense for head coach Chris Finch. Ben explains why he may play more small forward and could see his assist rate decline.

The Minnesota Timberwolves may have overpaid for Rudy Gobert, but that does not make them one of the worst three general manager or front office jobs in the NBA. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) explains why the recent Bill Simmons Podcast episode with Ryen Russillo was off-base with assertion. From Anthony Edwards to the top-level talent of Karl-Anthony Towns and Gobert, the Wolves are clearly in a better situation than several other teams across the league.

The Minnesota Timberwolves improved on defense this season, but their offense took a giant step backward. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) discusses what head coach Chris Finch needs to do differently next season, considering what went well and where the Wolves struggled the most with their new-look lineup. Also, a quick look at why the defensive improvement was real and can be trusted moving forward.

If the New York Knicks put together a trade package for Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Karl-Anthony Towns, what might it look like? Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) breaks down the potential offer, including concerns about the Julius Randle fit -- and excitement at the idea of Immanuel Quickley in a Wolves uniform. How many picks would the Knicks need to include in such a deal? Also, could the Timberwolves get Delon Wright from the Washington Wizards in an offseason deal to shore up the backup point guard spot?

While it's easy to fixate on pending free agents Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, the Minnesota Timberwolves would do well to not get too hung up on simply bringing back "their guys." Ben Beecken discusses the concern with tunnel vision and the team convincing themselves into overpaying players that could be replaced at a similar (or lower) cost via free agency. Plus, a look at a few outside free agents that could fit the Wolves roster perfectly.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will no doubt consider completing a Karl-Anthony Towns trade this summer. The Portland Trail Blazers own the No. 3 selection in a loaded draft, and the Blazers may also be looking for a star to pair with Damian Lillard. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) explores the potential fit of likely No. 3 pick Scoot Henderson on the Wolves roster, including the top skill that Henderson possesses that would fit the Timberwolves perfectly. Plus, concerns about the fit, and ultimately, whether or not he would make the deal.

Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly traded a massive haul of first-round draft picks in the Rudy Gobert trade, but the Wolves may still have a few more picks in their cache than one might expect. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) resets the draft pick situation for the Wolves, including future picks owed and acquired -- did you know that Connelly received three second-rounders back in the D'Angelo Russell-Mike Conley trade? Plus, a look at Naz Reid's free agency from an asset control standpoint.

If the Minnesota Timberwolves re-sign free agent big man Naz Reid, it likely will indicate a future Karl-Anthony Towns trade, even if it isn't consummated until next summer. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) explains why the Wolves' cap situation is tenuous, and while they could survive a season with both bigs (plus Rudy Gobert) still on the roster, things become much trickier for the Timberwolves just a year from now. Towns could be traded now, or the Wolves could wait and see what happens this season before making the ultimate decision next summer.

Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) is joined by Cyrus Saatsaz (@DogSurfRoadshow) of Locked On Warriors to discuss the viability of the Golden State Warriors as a potential landing spot in a hypothetical Karl-Anthony Towns trade. If the Warriors wanted KAT, what would they have to give up? Would depleting their depth be worth it for the Warriors, and what would the Wolves require in return for their superstar big man? Ben and Cyrus debate the possibility from all angles in this crossover episode.

The Minnesota Timberwolves don't have much flexibility when it comes to trade possibilities this summer -- save for the possibility of a Karl-Anthony Towns trade. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) discusses the Wolves' level of "stuckness" and compares it to several other teams around the league. There are at least two teams in a worse spot and several others that also owe several future draft picks and have bloated cap sheets.
