So much for that easy, breezy spring training, because Greg Bird has to go to New York to see a doctor about his foot, and if that sounds familiar, well, it is. The good news for the Yankees is that this year, if there's anything serious about Bird's foot, there's no Chris Carter or Ji-Man Choi or Garrett Cooper, but actual, capable, major league players who can take over.
Also, talk on this show about other nightmare scenarios for the Yankees, and the way that CC Sabathia fits the 2018 rotation, as well as into 2018 baseball in general.

Jesse Spector hosts this episode, which brings Tyler Wade Week to a conclusion. Did we think we'd have a Tyler Wade Week at the end of March? No, but baseball is always full of surprises, isn't it?
Also today, a mailbag that features Manny Machado, the Yankees' bullpen, and stopping short on a Donald Trump rant before going too far down that rabbit hole. Good time all around! Baseball season starts next week!

Omari Brown hosts this episode, his first solo outing at Locked On Yankees, and right out of the box, he’s comparing Tyler Wade to Aaron Judge, which is a fitting end to Tyler Wade Week here.
The Yankees also made some cuts on Wednesday as they get closer to putting together their opening day roster for next Thursday in Toronto. It does not, however, matter all that much, as the players among the last cuts of spring training are the ones who wind up being Scranton Shuttle riders during the season.
Still, we're a week away from real Yankees baseball!

Larry Fleisher hosts, and the topics include plans for the Yankees and Red Sox to play in London, Alex Rodriguez in camp as a special advisor, and the articles posted on Tuesday as Locked On Yankees went diving headlong into the space of the written word.

While there is some Yankees news, such as the likelihood of Jacoby Ellsbury starting the season on the disabled list because an oblique injury and the flu have kept him from getting enough at-bats in Florida, and Luis Severino getting the ball in Toronto next Thursday, this show is about more.
We're ready to really get going on the Locked On Yankees website, where one of the guests on this episode, Anthony L. Fisher, has one of the first pieces, along with stuff to read from Britt Huber and Miranda Kalish.
Meanwhile, we've filled out the hosting rotation for the podcast, and Gary Phillips is here to say hello to the Locked On Yankees audience for the first time.

Aaron Judge gets a stern lecture about tampering after swooning over Manny Machado's impending free agency like so many Yankees fans before him.
New Locked On Yankees contributor Britt Huber joins the show to talk about Austin Romine.
Plus, it's Mailbag Friday! Yay!

You've heard Larry Fleisher as a guest on Locked On Yankees, and in his introduction to the team. Now comes his first solo ride hosting the show.
Topics for this one include, naturally, the Neil Walker signing, as well as some thoughts on Jordan Montgomery, Greg Bird, and the Yankees' spring performance in general.
Just 15 days until the opener!

It's a day of additions, as the Yankees made a move that hardly anyone expected by signing Neil Walker to a one-year deal, something that had been talked about earlier in the winter, but the possibility of which had seemed to evaporate when the Yankees traded for Brandon Drury.
After some thoughts from Jesse Spector on the move in the opening, "The Empire Claps Back" host Omari Brown is on for his Locked On Yankees debut, talking about the same, and also introducing himself. Omari is the newest member of the Locked On Yankees team, and he will be hosting shows and doing some guest spots in addition to his work for Pinstriped Prospects on the Tampa Tarpons beat. It's a pleasure to have him aboard!

After winning last year's Home Run Derby, Aaron Judge doesn't see himself defending the crown, and that's absolutely fine. There's nothing to the idea that the Derby causes players to slump in the second half of the season, but that's not the point. Judge did it once, won it, and what more does he really have to prove? Plus, it's his choice anyway, assuming that he would be one of the invitees anyway, which is no guarantee. It's one of those things that people will make a stink about, but the Derby still will be fun anyway, and they should really do a streaming version of the old-school Home Run Derby, taped during the offseason, so that it's not as much of a hassle to players in the middle of the year.
Hal Steinbrenner met the media at spring training this week, and Locked On Yankees' Larry Fleisher has a full breakdown of what the principal owner of the Yankees had to say, and what it all meant.
Back on the field, Justus Sheffield had another rocky outing and was among the first cuts of camp. He wasn't going north with the team anyway, and this spring wasn't about numbers, either. So, it's fine to move on from that to Mailbag Friday and a rant about salary cap systems. You may not believe it, but the Yankees probably would benefit if MLB had one.

Giancarlo Stanton played left field for the first time in spring training, it did not go well, and it wound up on the back page of all three New York tabloids, which seems a little much, but it's fun to compare and contrast the Post, Daily News, and Newsday.
For more perspective on what Stanton's wobbly outing means, which is nothing, Larry Fleisher is back on the show. But the real news here is that Larry will be joining Locked On Yankees as another host, as well as a writer. The team is starting to grow, and there will be more introductions ahead as we start ramping up for the season, so stay tuned!
