LoCLE Grown

Brandon's birthday has passed, so it's officially Spooky SZN. In this episode, we chat Ouija Boards and Astrology with Twan, Jake/Josh/Zeus and Brandon of TwanMnzl, and give them an idea or two for a new band name now that they have assembled and have a few shows under their belt as a trio. Content warning: if you're a Gemini, Libra, Cancer, Pisces, or Scorpio, you may or may not be getting called out.

TwanMnzl is a alternative hip hop group where each person lets the other shine in their own way, with songs that make you dance and cry (preferably at the same time). Get ready for a new album dropping later this year, but for now you can listen to their newest single "Madison" and watch the super cool and uniquely-filmed music video on YouTube.

Thank you TwanMnzl, for joining us! Stay connected to them by following TwanMnzl, Brandon, and Zeus on Instagram to see what they've got going on!

Welcome to the LoCLE Grown podcast, with your hosts JLaird and Keith Jurban.

From Patsy Cline covers to Viking Metal Bands, Chayla Hope has done it all to get right where she wants to be now - embracing her music as "SophistiPop" with a touch of electronic and whatever else she sees fit for the vibe. When you look at Chayla Hope we know what you're thinking: her grandma definitely played Betty Boop songs on an organ in bars. Well, you'd be right in thinking that, and in this episode we uncover the many layers to show you this beautiful and extraordinary "Mess of a Woman".

Chayla invited her two band mates and co-collaborators, Nate and Britton, who give us the real intel on who Chayla Hope is, what inspires her, and everything we need to know about her second full-length album, "Mess of a Woman", which will be dropping in early 2024! At the end of this episode, you can hear a stripped-down version of the first single off this album with a performance that will leave you with perpetual chills.

Thank you, Chayla, for joining us! Get connected by following her on Instagram and check out links to her music, including the newest single "BFM", here!

It's fall y'all, and we have the vibes starting RIGHT with Sedona from Youngstown, OH today. We provide the fellas of Sedona with one hell of a beverage selection and talk about the Music Scene Renaissance in Youngstown as well as one of the coolest venues we've heard of in a while (check out The Wickyards).

On top of that, we discuss their upcoming tour happening towards the end of this year and hear their newest song that just dropped on September 1st "Remind Me". And a friendly reminder not to run with our ideas, but rather walk with haste. PS @all bands: your homework for the week is to create yourself a Linkedin.

Thanks again, Sedona! Get connected by following them on Instagram and listen to "Remind Me" on all streaming platforms NOW!

In this episode we sat down with Camel Butter, a jam rock and jazz fusion band hailing from The LAND. Our first jam band in the studio, we had a lot of questions for the guys, and lots of bases to cover. We chatted about verbal and non-verbal communication, when do we improv and how much, and learning the rules before you break them.

Camel Butter was also fresh off playing Nelson's Ledges for the very first time, and it was definitely one to remember! The ~jar of wonders~ made a special appearance in this episode as well, where we learned the nicest thing someone has ever done for Yan.

Thanks again to Camel Butter for joining us in the studio! Get connected by following  them on Instagram!

Re-emerging from a 6 year hiatus, alternative R&B artist ZuP joins us in the studio for a look back at the empire he built in the 2010s and how it felt to return to the stage just earlier this year. We were able to catch this performance and then again at his sold out show at The Foundry, where he announced the release of his full-length album "For Me".

ZuP also brings DJ Dick on the mic, who started as a fan back in the day and now accompanies him in his performances as well as other artists in Cleveland. We cover how to write sad songs when you're in a good place, Biden Bucks funding our passions, and shoutout Discover Weekly and Spotify's algorithm in general.

HEY, ARTISTS - SOME HOMEWORK FOR YOU: In accordance with ZuP creating artwork for each single on the album, we want YOU to paint, draw, or design some visual art to pair with a song/lyrics  you're writing or have written. Send it to us via email ([email protected]) or tag us on Instagram and we will share it!!

Thanks again for joining us ZuP! See more of what he's got going on here on his Linktree! And listen to his latest album "For Me" on all streaming platforms now!

In this episode, we sat down with Cleveland hard rock, alt metal band TRUSS!
Rewind -  we had Hannah in the studio for our 2021 LoCLE Grown Marathon but this time we had the pleasure of chatting with the entire band. TRUSS gave us the inside scoop on all the SICK shows they've been playing, (a ton out of state, so cool) in which they all ride in the latest edition to the band, the TRUSS bus.
They also confirmed they stan by Nickelback. Same.

Be on the lookout for new music coming your way, with their newest upcoming single "Soiled" which they also filmed a music video for! Hear the unplugged version in their performance towards the end of the episode. And hey, if you haven't had a chance to see TRUSS at a show, you should absolutely do that.

Listen to TRUSS and follow them on Instagram to stay updated on all things they've got cookin!

We got slightly out of hand with the autotune that Unc D hooked up to the mic. In this episode, we explore the phrase in which he has now coined called "Mumble Jazz" and cover his next album dropping in September - "MMBLJZZ: WTF is MUMBLE JAZZ !?". Unc D is a contrarian at heart and pushes beyond the boundaries of the Jazz, R&B and Hip Hop realms with his music. Due to this, critics will either love or hate it, which he addresses in our chat.

Unc D also speaks on his utilization of the Reddit forums to spread word of his music and a very crazy paranormal run-in at a recent gig. Sidenote: Jurbz's sneeze is so quiet she disrupts the entire episode. In the end, we try a little Autotune Karaoke - something Unc D does towards the end of each of his gigs - and it is quite the spiritual experience.

Thanks again, Unc D! Be on the lookout in September for his new music everywhere. Get connected to him by following him on Instagram and see more from him on his Linktree!

We Live Under Vibrations on this Sunday morning and talk about the 2022 debut album LUV, Tenacious D sharing their cover, and the upcoming EP Jazz for Snakes dropping before the end of the year!

NOT TO MENTION that this episode is the first time we officially break out the Jar of Wonders and the band just freestyles our new theme song for it?? At the end, we get a VERY RARE acoustic performance from them, they say its the first time ever, but we will let you be the judge of that.

Today, we join with Drew of Electric Rendezvous and discuss our lack of math skills, the angsty years of the early 2010s, and a very full-circle moment where he is recording the next album. While Electric Rendezvous is Drew's solo project, we also get to hear about his full band called Wasted Society, as the lead singer Sam lends his vocals in the performance at the end. We ask the hard-hitting questions with a new game we are testing (and if you like it or hate it, let us know!), and maybe invented a new one in the process called "Make That Do This"??? Not to mention a SURPRISE GUEST in the studio that just made our lives so much easier while recording, it was like feeling the cool Breeze on your skin  (the vape, not the weather).

SONGS PERFORMED:
Back to the Snake Pit (ft. Slam Cookie)
Problematic

For legal reasons, the title line is a joke ;)

Today, we cover the newly-formed band Fox Ears, comprised of 4 very talented individuals of Cleveland who have come together to give you that perfect blend of music you never knew you needed. Do you like a mix between D'Angelo, Black Sabbath and Journey? Well, my friend, Fox Ears is for you.

Talking with Fox Ears, we learned not only that Shame Is Good, but also that being humble to the point of self deprecation is all apart of the music writing process. We also discuss the #tattoogate scandal and shoutout the 10x3 at Bop Stop.  This one might make you cry like Laird's mom after a glass of wine (JoLaird, you reading this?? Happy Birthday).

SONGS PERFORMED:
Smoke from a Distant Fire
40 Winks
Idle Hands

Follow Fox Ears on Instagram and check out their latest shows on their website here! Thanks again for the great time, guys!
