We celebrate our tenth episode anniversary by finally postulating about sports trends and fads. First though, we have a go at settling an age-old debate: socks before trousers, or trousers before socks (2:40)?
It's then on to our deep-dive about sports fads and trends (9:35). First we delve into some of the biggest trends of the last couple of decades, and share our experiences with them (15:00). We ruminate on the Tony Hawk-inspired skateboarding boom, a rollerblading culture war, the underrated ultimate frisbee and the newly rebooted XFL.
From there we turn to current sports crazes, where we theorize around who's really having the most fun on the padel court, discuss the wide-ranging implications of Esports and the sustainability of Formula One's growing fan base (27:00). We round out the segment by placing our bets on which sports are poised to take the world by storm in the coming years (46:25).
We finish off with Neil attempting to get his revenge from episode six by submitting Nicola to a Google Trends quiz - can he guess which sports are on the rise over the past 12 months, and which are on the way out (53:35)?
