  • American Groove - #110 Your Smoked Up

We are in a weird period; cannabis is still federally illegal in the US, but thankfully it has been taken down as a substance one. The fear for the pharmaceutical industry right now is real. More and more researchers, doctors, and scientists work tirelessly at alternative medicine remedies to understand the benefits and side effects.

We are all about stoner culture, and we (Karissa and Dave) have had our cannabis journeys up until now. We have had good and bad trips, products, and others we use daily. And the cool conversations and connections we have had with other people.

The host of American Groove is Karissa Andrews, Makeup Artist, fully licensed esthetician, candle maker, and pug lover. Located in Los Angeles, and the best part is that you can check out her work on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/karissathebeautiful/

Hey everybody, and welcome to American Groove. In this episode, we take a trip to all things Drag. We're not teaching history here, kids; we're talking about how much we love drag and what we have learned from other drag queens and the beauty industry.

And recent controversy in the state of Tenessee was attending a drag show. You must be 18 years of age to attend. First off, WTF? The world may seem crazy right now, but where to look at both sides and want to get a real take on this.

        • American Groove - #107 Liv'n It with Fiona Williams

The art and craft of daily life can be summed up with having a roof over your head, being able to get work, and buying groceries. But, sometimes, we fall; other times, it can be an addiction. Today's topic is about this question, grasping reality and realizing how easy it is to slip. Even so, getting back on our feet for ourselves is a personal achievement.

Today we sat down with the incredible Fiona Williams out of Chicago, an artist in their own right and animal lover. Fiona's story is relatable; it speaks to Americans struggling all across the country and to members of the LGBTQ community. It's amazing to have all of us (Dave, Karissa, and Fiona) a part of the community and understand "struggle."

Be sure to check out our host this week. They post a daily vlog on Tik Tok,  videos ranging from chilling at home and riding in Chicago on a bike when it's really cold outside. Be sure to check their work with the link below⤵️

              • #106 - Interview with Rachel Spinner

Learning disabilities are a hot topic, especially for kids. Yet, for most of us growing up, there were no programs for those with learning disabilities such as dyslexia. Now, these programs can offer different solutions and tools that can be used to help them better work and operate in everyday society for these kids.

Today, we have Rachel Spinner, who has worked in the education system and now works with learning disability programs for kids. Her experience with dyslexia and ADHD also raised a child with a learning disability similar to her own experience. Having a conversation from a place of expertise, valuing the tools, and researching, what works for one child may not work for the other.

You can find Rachel on Instagram @rspinner. also, be sure to check out the Ohel family with the link below ⤵️

                        • American Groove - #104 Drugstore

In this episode, we are taking a trip to the drugstore and have a real talk about opioids and how there are still affecting people's lives. But the truth is kids, and big pharma is all about money, and they never had a "reason" to care about anyone's health.

Karissa likes when we keep things more fun around here, so the twist is looking at alternative healing, like micro-dosing with mushrooms (psilocybin) and using cannabis and CBD products. It's incredible how many alternatives and the research to back them.
