Most likely to get married

Most likely to own a business

 

You get it… You probably remember some of the categories that were listed in your high school year-book.

Do you think it would’ve made you think differently or question the path you wanted to go down if those same pages in the year-book listed the following:

Most likely to get divorced

Most likely to go through bankruptcy

Most likely to become addicted

Most likely to be a single parent

I wonder if knowing that those things were a reality and that many of us would face those struggles would cause us to ask more questions, use caution, boldly and with authority take control over our lives.

Mark Twain once said, “it ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble, it’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so”. The blessing and curse of doing what I do is that tags jump out and bite me thousands of times a day. I actually can’t help but identify labels as they are swirling around in our world. This week was no different. I’ve heard four people in the last two days tell me a personality trait that they have and then solidified that statement with, “it’s just who I am, I’m fine with it”.

The only problem with that is that it could be true and it could be false depending on how well these people know themselves. Today’s episode highlights self-awareness and the value it has in our lives.

Rise and GRIND!

Apparently, the word grind is a big tag in the sports world. It’s amazing how people come up with these buzzwords that take the world by storm. As everyone is taking on the new trend, grinding away at their goals and dreams, they don’t stop to ask themselves how they define the new, hot, buzzword.

If you google the word grind, you will find many articles of this word written in relation to the sports world but you will also find articles telling you how grinding in your life is actually keeping you from success, not getting you there.

Yesterday, I was on a panel of speakers in the new social media app Clubhouse and we were discussing having a winner’s mindset. Specifically talking about the fact that you do not need to grind. The stage consisted of myself, Alan Stein Jr., yesterday’s guest on this podcast, Stu Singer and Christian Plascencia. All of the men on stage shared passionately about their distaste with the word grind and how it can lead to burn out.
