On the Road Again --- John 11:17-25

We often think of God’s presence as a mountaintop experience—a clear sky, a loud voice, or a sudden burst of light. But the Road to Emmaus tells a different story. It tells us that Jesus is most present when we are most "downcast."

In Luke 24, two followers are walking seven miles in the wrong direction. They are retreating from Jerusalem, retreating from their community, and retreating from their hope. They are talking about Jesus in the past tense:

"We had hoped..."

The irony of the story is that they were grieving the absence of the very person who was matching them step-for-step.

"Disappointment doesn't drive Jesus away; it draws Him in. He doesn't wait for you to find your way back to Jerusalem before He meets you; He finds you on the road to Emmaus while you're still walking away."

Easter Sunday 2026

For thousands of years, death seemed to have the final word. From the garden of Eden through the long history of the prophets, every story ended the same way: they all died. Even when Ezekiel stood in a valley of dry bones and watched God breathe life into them, the "echo of death" eventually caught up to him too. It felt like an unbreakable pattern that chased all of history, leaving us with a vision of life that always felt limited and fragile.

But then Jesus stepped into the grave and did something no one else could do. He did not just escape death; He defeated it. By rising again, He broke the old cycle and invited us into an entirely new creation where death no longer has a seat at the table. He is the Resurrection and the Life, settling us in a land where we can finally breathe again alongside Him.

Consider this: If Jesus really is the "I Am" who holds the power over life and death, how does that change the way you look at your own future? When you face the "dry bones" or the "dead ends" in your life today, do you believe He has the power to open those graves and bring you into something entirely new?

The Man, the Myth, the Legend --- John 15:1-7

Do you ever feel stuck? Empty? Do you feel like you’re doing all of the “right” things but still feel drained or unfulfilled? What if true living is not about what we do or produce, but in remaining in a true source of life?

Jesus speaks directly into these questions in today’s passage. Sitting with His disciples in one of His final conversations with them, He uses the simple but powerful image of a vine, its branches, and a thoughtful gardener to reframe everything they thought they knew about growth, purpose, and what it means to truly live.

What if true life isn’t something that we achieve but something that we receive?

The difference between feeling drained and feeling truly alive and fruitful comes down to one word: abide.

The Man, the Myth, the Legend --- John 15:5-14

Do you know anyone who has ever tried to find their way in the world? Anyone ever asked "what is true?" or "what is real?" Perhaps the bigger question - "What is Truth?" Finally, maybe you or someone you know has asked "what is the good life?" "What is eternal life?" Yeah? Me too. You're not alone. These are some big questions that most of us ask, wrestle with and even revisit even after we find a suitable answer. In today's Scripture passage, Jesus is sitting with His disciples at a table and answering Peter, John, Thomas and Philip in particular as they grapple with these questions in so many words - What is the way? What is the truth? What is the life?

The Man, the Myth, the Legend --- John 10:1-18

In a world full of noise, the most important spiritual question may not be what do I believe, but whose voice am I listening to? Jesus says His sheep know His voice, which means following Him is not primarily about perfect behavior or flawless faith—it’s about relationship and trust. Yet fear, anxiety, cultural pressures, and our own insecurities often become substitute shepherds in our lives, quietly guiding our decisions and shaping how we see the future. The tragedy is that we were never created to live that way. We were created for freedom under the care of a Good Shepherd who knows us by name and loves us enough to lay down His life for us. The deeper invitation of this passage is to pause and ask whether the direction of our lives is being shaped by fear’s voice or by the steady, loving voice of Jesus calling us toward peace, safety, and abundant life.

The Man, the Myth, the Legend --- John 8:12

When Jesus says, “I am the Light of the world,” He is not offering better advice or stronger motivation. He is offering exposure, healing, and presence all at once. Light does two things at the same time it reveals what is real, and it makes life possible. Which means the places we most want to keep hidden may be the very places He most wants to illuminate and not to shame us, but to free us. So here’s the deeper question: What part of your life have you learned to manage in the dark? What have you convinced yourself is safer hidden than healed? If Jesus truly is the Light, then stepping toward Him does not mean destruction it means clarity, warmth, and new sight. And maybe going deeper this Lent isn’t about trying harder… maybe it’s about daring to stand honestly in His light and trusting that what He reveals, He also restores.

The Man, the Myth, the Legend --- John 6:25-59

Welcome to our first sermon from our new home at the Foundry! We begin the season of Lent examining the figure of Jesus and his claims.

Every one of us carries a hunger deeper than food, success, or comfort. Jesus doesn't just offer to give us bread. He claims to be the bread, the very substance our souls were designed to thrive on. This week, we are invited to stop trying to fix our hunger with things that spoil and instead choose to "Feast" on the presence of the One who never runs out.

Now let’s look at the second Creation narrative; the one formed around humanity.

It's hard to believe it, but today we say goodbye to our home of 16 years: the Varsity Theater on Franklin Street. Love Chapel Hill heard the call to move and remake the Foundry just down the road our home base. The mission hasn't changed and the potential for what we can do is very exciting. But today we pause in gratitude to our quirky old theater and remember 16 years of transformative love from the voices of our past and present.

Justice --- Genesis 1:28-30

Here's one that shouldn't be nearly as polarizing as it has become: Justice for Creation through the stewardship of God's creations. We were put here to look after our environment, but it is evident humanity is failing here particularly within the church. There is precedent throughout the Bible to treat our home with respect, especially as it is directly tied to being a loving neighbor.

Justice --- Luke 4:16-21

Man, we haven't been this digital since COVID. Welcome back to our digital format on an icy Sunday. We kick off our short series in Justice today. What IS justice? It's a loaded question and it depends on whose definition you follow. Our country and world show how willing we are as a people to fight for it and over it. We turn to the words of Jesus himself as we try to make sense about what we should expect to give and get from those around us.
