  • This I Know
    Love in Chaos
How do you love others in chaos? The answer is as simple and as monumentally difficult as this: you continue to love. This kind of love is demonstrated throughout scripture as ‘Khesed,’ love demonstrated by loyalty in the face of betrayal and heartbreak. Our divisions have reached a point where people singing the same songs and reading the same words believe things so completely incompatible between each other that the call to love feels patently naive. But that is the character of God to the Israelites and Jesus to the people in his ministry. It is anything but easy. But it’s how we begin to make a difference in troubled times.

  • Your Sins Have Been Forgiven
Love in Chaos --- Romans 7:19
I don’t care who you are or where you come from. This is a crazy time to be alive, for one reason, another, or many all at once. So what can we do about it? As often as the term “unprecedented” is thrown around it’s worth remembering that Jesus came during days of chaos too. First step: acknowledge if/when you’re part of the chaos. Next: find places where even small acts done with great care can have great impact.

  • The Lord of the Sabbath
    24/6
As we wrap up our series on Sabbath, let's look carefully at the life of Jesus. While it's tempting to think that Jesus's ministry took Jewish law in a different direction given how Christian worship, Jesus was actually the fulfillment of the kind of freedom that Jubilee never achieved. Jesus's own words resolve any doubts as to how important regular Sabbath is in daily living.

  • Abide
    24/6
These weeks are have made it all the more difficult to find our Sabbath. That's why it's never done alone. And that's partly why Justin isn't alone on stage this week. Bob Stocking joins us with his own experiences in discovering ways to abide in the Lord, sometimes in unexpected places.

  • Sacred Assembly
    26/6 --- Leviticus 25:1-13
Sabbath is hard. Especially as we navigate it in a variety of hybrid Jewish/Gentile interpretations of its practice. It takes discipline, sure, but don't miss that it is an invitation as well. It's an opportunity to slow down and join the sacred assembly of all God's people. Sabbath is a cadence of celebration and freedom.

  • Remember the Sabbath and Keep it Holy
    24/6 --- Matthew 11:28-30
The gym parking lot is extra full and there's less kale available in the grocery stores. It's New Years Resolution season, y'all! Our new series on the Sabbath, though, will try to eschew the cynical cycle of fads and disappointment and instead focus on rhythms of rest as understood by the earliest of Scripture we have. Sabbath is a discipline, and it's all the more important in this age of excessive busyness.

  • Haggai & Zechariah
An Advent Word for the Way --- Haggai/Zechariah
The Temple is coming back! Haggai and Zechariah are two Prophets speaking to Israelites near the end of the Babylonian exile. Soon, the Persian Empire would allow the dispersed people to return to Judah and rebuild the Temple. There's plenty here for us today, though. God is once again pleading for us to stop returning to our old ways, and to embrace redemption by living like you are a member of the Kingdom of God.

  • Obadiah
An Advent Word for the Way --- Obadiah
The Edomites get called out. The dependents of Esau found themselves being the persecutors of the decedents of Jacob. But within the political reenactment of two brothers falling out, don't miss where you fit in this story. If you've ever seen injustice or hurt and been silent...or even accomplice to it, Obadiah's words are for you. We're reminded that we're a people desperate for redemption. And that's what Advent is all about.

  • Joel
An Advent Word for the Way --- Joel
It's Advent! We're staying in our series on the Book of the Twelve as we transition into this year practice of preparing our hearts for the coming of the Lord. This week, it's Joel on Joel! And we start in an unfortunately familiar place for many this time on year: lament. A Savior coming to the world means that something is broken, and we all have little doubt about that. God hears your woes. God empathizes. To grieve means that you have loved. And loving is what our mission is.

  • Habakkuk
A Word for the Way --- Habakkuk
How long? There's a question, right? Habakkuk comes out of the gate with desperate questions; a need to know that suffering and disappointment are being seen and a hope that salvation won't be too far. It's probably not an uncommon question today, much less during the turmoil of the kingdoms of Israel. What does faith look like when it begins with such a question?
