  • #111 - Junk Emotions vs Valuable Emotions

All of our emotions are valid and significant in our lives. The emotions we experience on a daily basis can have a micro or macro impact on how we act and make decisions. Because our emotions have the power to either help or destroy us, it's important that we take our time working on ourselves and loving ourselves in order to be able to trust our own feelings.

Junk emotions are bad emotions that can have a negative impact on our lives if we don't put them to good use, such as motivating us to act in a healthy and productive manner. Valuable emotions, on the other hand, are those that allow us to responsibly enjoy our lives and live it to the fullest.

In Episode 111, Andrew and Benjy talk about how our emotions affect our lives, as well as the difference between junk emotions and valuable emotions. They also discuss how emotions affect relationships and what it means to be committed to a marriage.

We can often hear the saying love yourself first before loving someone else. And that is because we are only capable of loving other people when we know how to love ourselves. Relationships aren't always about having a constant flow of happiness and or being in ideal scenarios. It's vital to learn how to love in a selfless and committed way because feelings may fade, but it doesn't matter as long as you have a strong foundation with God at the center of it.

  • #110 - Sexuality and Islam |Dr. Drissa Kone

"Marriage is about growth and not just being happy together. We enter marriage as a process and we have to understand that growing is a part of it. And that growing is painful sometimes" - Dr. Drissa Kone

We have diverse perspectives on many topics, especially when it comes to sexuality and marriage. However, despite our differences, listening, learning, and most importantly respecting them can make a tremendous impact in this world, which is the definition of unification, to be as one despite our diversity.

In Islam, religion and the legal system are intertwined, and they are both in existence at all times. Islamic sexual jurisprudence focuses on the laws of sexuality that are mainly predicted in the Quran, as well as the Sunnah, wherein sex is seen as a gift from Allah and sexual relationships should be confined to marriage between a man and a woman only.

In Islam, social justice is a big deal, and they always make sure that society's order is maintained. In Islam, marriage is mandatory as it is seen as a significant help in the development and maintenance of a stable society.

In Episode 110, we are joined by Dr. Drissa Kone, an experienced professor of Conflict Resolution and Ministry, who has been named as the Director of the Unification Theological Seminary's Doctor of Ministry.

Dr. Kone shares with us why the Quran is highly significant to Muslims and what it says about sexuality. He also discusses the important purpose of marriage in Islam as well as the true definition of what unification is.

The way we spend our lives and the things we do, no matter how big or small, have an influence on how we define life. We all want a sense of significance and find an endless number of ways to find meaning and purpose in this world.

Rituals are routines which we have attached special significance to. It can help us in becoming the best version of ourselves by aligning our goals with the habits that will help us get there.

Rituals are designed to serve us, which is why it's important to remember that when curating our own rituals, we should be guided by the reasons why we're doing it in the first place. It is not an ordinary or typical routine; rather, it is a one-of-a-kind routine that we have created for ourselves with the intention of reaching our ultimate goal, which is a fulfilled and engaged life.

It enables us to better manage our time, change our bad habits, and avoid procrastination. Spontaneity, on the other hand, brings out our adventurous side as it is unpredictable yet exciting. The future is uncertain and sometimes it's also good to step outside of our comfort zone to try new and interesting things that will help us grow and develop as an individual.

In Episode 109, Andrew talks about how we can identify rituals that are serving us and which are not, as well as their importance in our lives. He emphasizes the difference between habits and spontaneity, and the significance of having both in order to live a balanced life.

When we reach a point in our lives where we are challenged by our thoughts, it's important to understand ourselves so we can assess whether the way we're living is leading us to our goals, or if it's something that we need to change to curate our lives in a way that allows us to enjoy it and control our destiny. Living is truly beautiful when we live a life that helps us grow closer to God, closer to becoming the person we want to be, and closer to living the life we desire.

  • #106 - How to Stay Out of Sexual Debt

The early stages of marriage are one of the most difficult phases because it is the period of adjustment for both of you. You must learn to understand your partner's physical, emotional and sexual rhythms, attitudes, and decisions because marriage is all about compromise. Communicating about sex is also a crucial part because if you become self-centered and allow your emotions to handle certain situations, you may find yourself in sexual debt.

Sexual debt creates an impact on your marriage and every aspect of your life. Sexually indebted individuals believe that there's nothing wrong within themselves and that their spouse is compelled to gratify their selfish sexual desires. Instead of being sexually indebted, invest your sexuality in a selfless way that yields a feeling of gratitude and wholeness as a "return on your investment".

There is nothing wrong with being indebted as long as you're indebted in a healthy way where you genuinely appreciate your marriage and the love you have together, which gives you the motivation to be the best person you can be for your spouse.
