What does SeaTac and fitness have in common? Nothing. But I start off this episode with a personal micro-rant on the o' so beloved airport and its charming display of "traffic." Nevertheless, the never-ending issues of traffic congestion versus travel efficiency does propose the question, "If one lacks resources, how can one improve?" In today's episode I explore that particular thought through the value of adherence and the ability to stay committed to one's goals. In addition, I discuss the role of specificity and how it can amplify adherence for success. Lastly, I have a confession to make. Spoiler alert: I finally accepted my "sport" with a capital B!

In today’s episode, I share my thoughts on gaining weight intentionally and building muscle mass to drive athletic performance. I admit, weight gain is a scary topic especially for those that have struggled with weight loss. However, the best way to attack fear is to attack it head on. Of course, if you’re afraid of a raccoon, I would highly suggest not putting yourself in a position where a raccoon can attack you. But. I. Digress. The point is that learning how to lean bulk properly to gain muscle is a good skill to have. With that being said, I’m making changes to my Q3 training protocol to focus more on lean bulking, building strength, and getting HYPED on hypertrophy. As always, I’ll keep y’all updated on my progress. So, stay focused on your goals and keep pushing. Be the tortoise that beats the hare. And always remember, the good thing about hitting rock bottom is that there's only one way left to go and that's up!

Life is random. Actually, let me rephrase that. Life “can” be random and oftentimes correlation doesn’t imply causation. When we experience bad luck, it's easy to think that we’re curse. However, that’s not the case. Bad days are moments in life, a split second in the grand scheme of the universe, that presents us with a challenge. In these pivotal moments, we can learn to assess the situation and react with intent. It's tempting to feed into the negativity, but we can learn to reframe the situation, get back up, and keep living.

Today’s episode is dedicated to the life of Zach Hunzinger. I recently learned about Zach’s story through world champ Chris Bumstead and it was beyond inspiring. It woke me up and he left us all with a great lesson, “You don’t need to know you’re dying to start living.” Life is unpredictable. Life is random. But we can all learn from Zach. In today’s episode I gave into human nature, challenged protocol, and gave up my weight cut…for 48 hours. Recently, I discovered the benefit of 48-hour caloric refeeds for saving one’s sanity. That’s right. I dropped the mental toughness, got off my caloric deficit, and returned to maintenance for 48-hours. It. Was. Epic. Furthermore, this change in protocol drove me to exercise an experimental diet plan for the next 6 weeks. Can 48-hour caloric refeeds help restore metabolic adaptations back to baseline during a weight loss phase? We’ll see! I hope y’all enjoy this new podcast episode and keep up the progress.
