Hon. Tamiza Hockenhull

My current employment as a Commissioner requires that I apply my knowledge of the law concerning family, criminal, juvenile and civil matters. I must also apply my knowledge of specific California codes including the Vehicle, Penal, Evidence, Civil, Civil Procedure and the Code of Judicial Conduct.  I currently handle general civil and traffic assignments and I regularly cover our court’s child support calendar.  On a daily basis, I exercise judicial temperament and demeanor whether I am presiding over general civil cases including Law and Motion, Small Claims, Unlawful Detainer, Civil Harassment and Domestic Violence Restraining Orders as well as child support or traffic cases.  I am also responsible for issuing Emergency Protective Orders in domestic violence matters. Each of these assignments require me to analyze the law and evidence and issue either a written or an oral decision.  Each of the calendars I preside over include a mix of litigants who represent themselves as well as those who have retained counsel.  A larger percentage of the litigants who appear before me represent themselves.  Thus, I apply my knowledge of the various areas of law and I advise the litigants of their rights and the court’s procedure in each of the different case types.  I regularly analyze and interpret legal issues, principles and arguments; direct and control courtroom proceedings in a decisive, orderly and equitable manner and communicate in a concise and effective manner.

 For over 8 years Courtney Burris has been an Assistant District Attorney for the city and county of San Francisco. During that time, she has worked in the sexual assault unit and the domestic violence unit before being promoted to the homicide division. Courtney is a board member of the Bay Area Black Prosecutors Association and the Charles Houston Bar Association.  Judge Stuart Hing was appointed to the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda, in July 2008 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Before his appointment, he was a Deputy District Attorney in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office for 23 years and a Senior Marketing Representative with Xerox Corporation where he attained #1 in sales for the U.S. western region. He and his wife, Rhoda Hing, are active in the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association including its voter project, Women Lawyers of Alameda County where he was the only male board member, Charles Houston Bar Association, Centro Legal de la Raza, BALIF, Alameda County Bar Association, St. Vincent de Paul, and their own 501(c)(3) outreach program. He also grew up in a housing project and played lead guitar in a band that opened for Earth, Wind & Fire.

Timothy Burr Jr. leads S360’s office in Northern California. Based in San Francisco, he is a seasoned advocacy veteran with deep roots throughout the Bay Area. Since joining S360 in 2019, he has built a practice helping clients navigate the intersection of emerging technology, law and public policy. He’s successfully helped clients engage on local and state issues including the future of work, healthcare, telehealth, life sciences, privacy, data-security, transportation, self-driving technology, entertainment, and co-working.

Prior to S360, Tim led all public policy for Lyft on the West Coast, developing regulations and policy initiatives for the company’s rideshare and self-driving vehicle programs across seventeen states and every major market in the Western U.S. and Canada. He led all Lyft’s local and state efforts in California, working with state and local leaders throughout the Bay Area.

Tim also served as a Deputy District Attorney for the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office in Oakland, California, where he secured many jury trials verdicts in cases ranging from first degree murder, attempted murder of a peace officer, sexual assault and domestic violence cases. He also served on the District Attorney Legislative Committee.

A local Bay Area native, Tim grew up in the South Bay and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Davis. He worked in Washington, D.C. as a staffer for both Senator Dianne Feinstein and Senator Debbie Stabenow. Tim went on to earn his J.D. at Santa Clara University School of law, where he served as a legal fellow at the Leon and Sylvia Panetta Institute for Public Policy. He also served on the San Francisco Bar Association Barristers’ Club Board of Directors from 2015 – 2018, and has worked on a number of local, state, and federal campaigns. Tim currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Bay Area Council and on the Advisory Council for the Kroc Center San Francisco.
