One of the great warnings to the church throughout the NT is the reality that there are many pretending Christians, and especially pretending Christian leaders, within the fellowship of the church. When people complained about this rescinding of her "gift," the politician defended herself saying, "why should I give something to people who didn't vote for me?" This type of "giving to get" is very common in our culture and is very much part of people's giving to God, but what does the Bible say about gifts that are acceptable to God? In Uganda, most people are used to leaders being dishonest with management of resources. Church leaders have been among the most guilty when it comes to embezzlement and misuse of funds they oversee. This leads to assumptions and speculation that any administration of money must be somehow corrupt, even when corruption isn't there. In 2 Corinthians 8, we are given a very important example from how Paul and his fellow servants managed and oversaw the collection of a gift for needy saints in Jerusalem.
