Have you ever felt troubled by a pattern of inconsistency in your Christian life? Perhaps sometimes you are fervent in spirit in your service to God, but then there are other times where you're going through the motions of the Christian life while sinful thoughts and impulses seem to dominate you. Know that this is not unique only to you, but it is the experience of every believer. In today's study, we consider a pattern God gives his children for continuously faithful and zealous Christian living. It is the pattern of always remembering what God has done for us and considering what our proper response to his love should be. In 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, the Bible warns us against partnerships with unbelievers. The passage then goes on to quote statements in the OT where God exhorted the children of Israel to separate themselves from the world in order to be his true people. We often don't consider ourselves idolatrous because we associate idolatry with the worship of pagan gods, especially with the old practice of fashioning images that represented these gods. But what does the Bible define as idolatry and how might Christians' worship be corrupted through idolatrous hearts even today? What things do people tend to consider as evidence someone is a true servant of God? What types of fruit do they think are important? Do these criteria fit with what is described in scripture?
