  • The Rediscovery of J. D. Kirszenbaum and The Miraculous Survival of the Diament Family Part A

Part A The Rediscovery of J. D. Kirszenbaum

After Nathan Diament retired from his professional life in business and administration in 2005 and his mother Lea and aunt Rachel died, he dedicated himself, together with his brother Amos, to rediscovering the work of J. D. Kirszenbaum, their great uncle. Amos and Nathan Diament had grown up with his work on the walls. At the age of 66, Nathan studied art history for two years and contacted archives and museums, which then brought works by Kirszenbaum out of their cellars and magazines into the light of day. He organized exhibitions and published a book about the painter Kirszenbaum. (J. D. Kirszenbaum (1900 - 1954) The Lost Generation - La Generation Perdue, Somogy Editions D'Art). Nathan and Amos are committed to ensuring that Kirszenbaum's work is given its rightful place in the history of modern Jewish art.

Their parents Josek Diament and Gitla Laja Albaum (Kirszenbaum) had fled from Poland to Belgium in the 1930s. Nathan Diament was born in Brussels in 1938. When he was four years old, his parents had to hand him and his little brother Amos over into the hands of Christian people. They themselves were hidden in an attic. There was no talk about how the eldest son Jacob survived. There was no talk about that time at all.

  • Lin

A very courageous woman lived in the GDR (East Germany) - a Holocaust survivor, an upright human, a former dancer and cabaret artist, a brave and confident Jewess, singer of Yiddish songs, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a fighter, who was ready to pay a high price for her beliefs more than once in her life: Lin Jaldati, born 13.12. 1912 Amsterdam and died on 31.08. 1988 in East Berlin. Together with her sister Jannie (24.10. 1916 – 15.08. 2003), their husbands and a group of friends they were active in the Dutch resistance and saved the lives of several Jews during the German occupation. Lin had ambassadorial role of the East German state, performing, and bringing Beethoven, Brecht and Yiddish songs to Moscow, China, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Cambodia and even singing Yiddish songs in Pyongyang, North Korea in 1965.

Jalda Rebling, the daughter of Lin Jaldati, tells the life story of her mother, born as #Lientje Brilleslijper in Amsterdam. Together with her sister Jannie (24.10. 1916 – 15.08. 2003), their husbands and a group of friends they were active in the Dutch resistance and saved the lives of several Jews during the German occupation. In summer 1944 they were betrayed and Lientje and Jannie were deported to the transit camp Westerbork, further to Auschwitz Birkenau and finally to Bergen-Belsen. Just like Anne and Margot Frank, whom they met and befriended with them. Lin gave secret concerts during her time in the underground, sang for the other inmates in the concentration camps and in DP camps after the war.

A movie is being prepared based on Roxanne van Iperen's exciting book about Jannie and Lientje's resistance work.

  • Chazkele

Was sollte unsere Kunst repräsentieren? El Lissitzky 1932

Building bridges and connecting people is something I enjoy. I love stories, people and life stories of people. I am a narrator since the age of ten, when radio plays used to be created for the ears and the imagination of listeners...
