February 15, 2025@LunchtimeCrime | Vampire with a Pocket ProtectorClick here to reply to @LunchtimeCrime "It's time for lunch. You have the right to remain silent. But I won't remain silent. Welcome back to Lunchtime Crime. And our week of specials is one in which the main ingredient is an engineer behaving badly. I will warn you, this is the worst of the worst. And while I'm not going to go into gory detail, this is a very disturbing story."...more7minPlay
February 14, 2025@LunchtimeCrime | Deadly OversightClick here to reply to @LunchtimeCrime "It's time for lunch. You have the right to remain silent, but I won't remain silent. Welcome back to Lunchtime Crime and welcome to Engineers Behaving Badly Week. So one disclaimer. I love engineers. I'm the daughter of an engineer. I have been engineer adjacent most of my career. I remember mentioning to a friend of the engineering persuasion that they have these crime series about lawyers and doctors and ministers, but not engineers."...more6minPlay
February 12, 2025@LunchtimeCrime | Happy St Valentine’s Day Massacre DayClick here to reply to @LunchtimeCrime "It's time for lunch. You have the right to remain silent. But I won't remain silent. Welcome back to Lunchtime Crime. It's that special time of year when the hearts of true crime lovers turn to thoughts of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre of 1929. Now, here at the Lunchtime Crime counter, we typically do not serve up such well known entrees. But I'm offering up a sort of forensic side dish because this case really marked the advance of ballistics."...more5minPlay
February 12, 2025@LunchtimeCrime | Coming Feb 16Click here to reply to @LunchtimeCrime "Five traditional branches, 12 primary specialties and about 50 degrees or fields. Highly intelligent people doing high pressure jobs with high stakes and the occasional murder, malfeasance and mayhem. The official theme for engineers week 2025 is design your future. But. But lunchtime crime is taking a slightly different look at engineers behaving badly, very badly, all next week."...more1minPlay
February 11, 2025@LunchtimeCrime | The Civil War After the Civil WarClick here to reply to @LunchtimeCrime "I just combined both if only they could have done that. The Lee Peacock feud left a scar on Northeast Texas, and by the time it ended, a lot of people died, both combatants and bystanders from both sides. And the feud highlighted the deep divisions that Reconstruction era policies exacerbated in southern communities. So today, the feud is remembered as one of the bloodiest examples of post Civil War violence in American history and a very unsettling reminder of how political and social division can spiral into chaos when left unresolved."...more5minPlay
February 09, 2025@LunchtimeCrime | ConfessionClick here to reply to @LunchtimeCrime "Now, Zelda was a talented and interesting woman, and you could cast her as a feminist hero in some respects, but this YouTuber was about a thousand percent wrong. She did get her name right, but she also claimed that Scott Fitzgerald had Zelda lobotomized to cover the fact that she in fact wrote the Great Gatsby. She was serious."...more5minPlay
February 09, 2025@LunchtimeCrime | The Cat AccompliceClick here to reply to @LunchtimeCrime "My Catholic guilt is kicking in for making a joke of what very well may have been a legit mental illness. And I do apologize for that. And I suppose I apologize to cats everywhere for being so quick to believe that if they could, they would be criminal masterminds. Come back soon for more lunchtime crime."...more5minPlay
February 08, 2025@LunchtimeCrime | A Miner OffenseClick here to reply to @LunchtimeCrime "There were mostly sheep guys on the jury and it didn't help that Davis was known to shoot at them and their friends. So he was convicted, but there were some pretty significant doubts about his guilt. He had evidence that he was actually in another state at the time of this particular shooting. The case took a dramatic turn when the actual perpetrators confessed to the killings. They claimed self defense and they were believed and so they were found not guilty."...more4minPlay
February 07, 2025@LunchtimeCrime | The Amazon with the AxeClick here to reply to @LunchtimeCrime "Brousseau confessed to the crime, claiming he did it for insurance money and because Nellie had hypnotized him. He pleaded guilty and received a 25 year sentence. Nellie maintained her complete innocence throughout the trial, but she was found guilty and sentenced to life at hard labor. She was 35 at the time. Now, I don't know if she had a histrionic personality or she was a great actress or maybe she suffered a genuine mental breakdown."...more6minPlay
