I don’t usually stop for breakfast when I’m out traveling, but this place was too adorable to pass up. I was impressed to learn that Bee’s Café had been in operation since 2017, but had to close when COVID-19 hit. They didn’t reopen for a long time, and when they did, the same space in the downtown area of Seneca Falls was for rent again. Talk about a serendipity sign!

As I strolled around the narrow streets of Seville’s central historical district, it was hard not to notice the number of dressed up people all heading in the same direction. The women were impeccably made-up, wore brightly colored flamenco style dresses and carried matching folding fans. The men sported business suits and ties or formal wear. And as to where they were going, I had no idea, but prompted by curiosity, I followed them.

For well over 100 years, The Cliff House at Pikes Peak has been welcoming guests. Recently, my wife and I had the pleasure of experiencing the luxurious charm of this historic property in Manitou Springs, Colorado. This stately five-story building is an architectural gem in a state with several other excellent historical hotels of the era. In the 1870s, citizens from the eastern part of the US and beyond came out west, trying to cure tuberculosis. It was said that the dry, cool air in the West could cure tuberculosis.

One of the five greatest pleasures of being a “Champagne” person is discovering a new Champagne and a new chef de cave. The second is discovering more than several. And the third, discovering “Champagne” is not all old maisons such as Ruinart (1729), Moet & Chandon (1743), Lanson (1760), Delamotte (1760) Veuve-Clicquot (1772), Louis Roederer (1776) and Jeans-come-latelies like Dom Perignon, Bollinger, Taittinger and “autres grande marques.” The fourth one is discovering that you don’t always have to spell champagne with a small “c” or have to surround it with inverted commas  when you speak about it. The fifth is finding a Champagne which isn’t from France but one you can still call Champagne. And don’t have to italicize. In other words, American champagne.
