Mad Men Happy Hour

Come with me on a quick tour of the Pete Pit, what some consider the tenth circle of hell.

On your left you’ll see Don “The Cheater” Draper.  Not only does he have the insolence to call his wife a whore, but he possesses the gall to immediately then sleep with his mistress.

On your right, Pete “GLP” Campbell, the man who puts the “Grimy”, “Little” and “Pimp” in “Grimy Little Pimp”.  His heinous acts are well known and bear no repeating, beside being unfit for any audience.

And in the center, Timmy “Ketchup” Jablonski.  We obviously don’t know much about him yet but unless you enjoy your ring finger doused in saliva like a ketchup-covered Oscar Mayer, you probably shouldn’t conduct your business with him.

The Coca-Cola of podcasts is back for another week of analysis, this time with even more off-putting characters.  We discuss how well Don compartmentalizes his affairs, dub Pete’s apartment in the city, and stumble through the 2nd circle of hell.

Dante would have you believe that there are 9 circles of hell.  With the help of Matt Weiner however, Jim and A.Ron have uncovered a 10th, even more heinous circle known as the two-and-a-half-hour podcast.  There’s plenty of discussion about Roger’s couch sessions, the cyclical nature of Don’s life and Stan’s glorious new beard.

Well people, it’s been fun.  We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve said good bye to several characters, some more permanently than others.  In this episode of the Happy Hour, we part ways with Mad Men after another phenomenal season, as we cover the finale episode “The Phantom”.  We talk Pete’s unhappiness, Megan’s treachery, Don’s rot problem, and Peggy’s “supreme happiness”.  And as always, feedback and thoughts from our all-star cast of listeners and fellow fans.

Thanks again for all your support through the season.  It means everything to Jim and I, and keeps us going.

Jim and A.Ron mourn the death of decent man in this week’s podcast, featuring our complete coverage of the penultimate episode of Mad Men season five, “Commissions and Fees”.  A decent, thieving, book cooking man, which by SCDP standards makes him something of a Saint.  Somber as the subject matter is, you know we’ll find a way to have at least a little bit of fun with it.

Jim and A.Ron thought this was the best Mad Men of the season, and one of the all time greats.  But what did you think?  Join us for a discussion of prostitution, privilege, pimps, Pete, and as always, your awesome feedback.

Jim and A.Ron break down episode 510 of Mad Men, “Christmas Waltz”, alternatively titled “Harry Krishna”.  ‘Tis the season for Lane to be upgraded to full suicide watch, to speculate on Don, Megan, Roger and Joan’s love-square and  debate Paul’s devotion to the Krishna’s.

Jim and A.Ron break down episode 509 of Mad Men, “Dark Shadows”.  In which we’re treated to multi-generational Draper bitchface, multi-cultural prejudice, and poison clouds of gas.  It probably didn’t originate from Betty, but we can’t really be sure.

Jim and A.Ron break down episode 508 of Mad Men, “Lady Lazarus”.  We have a feeling Pete will need a lot more than a cat’s nine lives to make it out of this season alive!  No psychorock goes unturned as we examine entitlement, misogyny, daddy issues, and the size of Harry’s yang.
