Our discussion focused on the current state of foreign residents in Japan and the government's attempt to open the country's borders to blue-collar immigrant workers.

　Jonathan Lear is a PhD candidate at UC Berkeley who is currently a visiting researcher in Tokyo University's Institute of Social Sciences. His research is a comparative intellectual history of the development of atomic energy in Japan and West Germany following WWII.
