It’s been awhile! And in this very short episode I admit that I’m not sure where to go with this podcast. I give you a bit of a life update and ask for your ideas of future topics.

I’ve been going through several big life changes these last few months. In this week’s dose of Magic for Realists I talk about them and what I’ve been doing to make the transitions more easeful. I talk about the importance of ceremony, being witnessed, and being present for the process. I hope this is helpful.

I’m transforming a short school bus into my own tiny home. I’m learning a lot along the way. This episode is a mixture of practical things (like what are self-tapping screws) and poetic things (like bringing a symbolic door knob from the ashes of a precious home) I’m learning. Ok, hold on….this one is a good time. 😝 It’s honest, maybe ruthless, probably funny and hopefully helpful. It’s my rant/opinion/wisdom about what to avoid in making an online dating profile, at least if you want me to give you a second thought ;) And of course, some deeper relational philosophy mixed in. Even if you’re not a man, or you’re not trying online dating, I think you’ll still enjoy this one.

I read from the book “Ensouling Language” by Stephen Harrod Buchner which has influenced and helped me deeply as a writer and designer of my own life. I talk about how developing the skill of discerning what is coherent/accurate and trusting when we feel something is amiss creates the possibility for creative connections. In this week’s dose of Magic for Realists I explore how some of my relationships, with creativity and people, have long story archs. Lately I’ve been noticing and appreciating the length of some of my stories and how the beauty Im evolves over time. I tell of a recent experience with encountering a legacy of an art project from 7yrs ago. I talk about how slowing down is countercultural and beneficial. I ponder the question: would we act differently if we knew this (lover, project, job, home) was going to be around for a long time?

In this week’s dose of Magic for Realists I share with you how this concept of a “status update” is present and helpful for me. Like on a road trip, even if we don’t know where we’re going, or have a tidy solution, updating each other on current feelings, needs and desires, enables honest connection and innovative solutions. I give various examples of how I’ve employed this in my life. I muse about attuned honesty, instead of unbounded, and the illusion of things staying the same.
