A spirit of arrogant boasting creeps into too many of our plans and purposes. James addresses these by identifying the way that we usually speak, revealing the pride of our hearts- by reminding us of what we need to consider, the uncertainty and brevity of our lives- and, instructs us as to what we really ought to say, in a spirit of conscious and humble dependence upon God.
