Writing to people who were in danger of losing confidence in God's gospel, for themselves and others, who perhaps felt that it could not compete in their marketplace of ideas, Paul emphasises the Lord in his purpose, working in accordance with his perfect wisdom and sovereign pleasure- he identifies the wisdom of the world, in all its failings and failures- and, he boasts in the foolishness of the message-the word of the cross-despised by the world in its wisdom but proving God's power and wisdom for salvation to all those who believe in a crucified Christ.

The closing prayer of Psalm 90 resolves the sharp contrast between weakness of mortal man and the strength of the eternal God which Moses knew so well.--It is a reminder that frail and sinful men still have a work to do for God. It is a reminder that the work of frail and sinful men is by nature unstable. It is a reminder that the eternal and faithful God can establish the work of the hands of those who are trusting in him, and seeking his favour for his honour.
