We are nearing the Winter Solstice! Let your roots get really deep. Draw into all that subterranean, rich, earthy, slow growth. The trees and surface life may be dormant but we draw down in small sphere— the circle of a candle’s glow. This practice is meant to travel with you over the holidays, to give you a counter-weight to the rush, to put us all in our feet and our bodies, and to let it feel warm and internally guided.
Thank you for all your support and love! And so many thanks to those of you supporting this podcast on Patreon! You all have helped me cover the professional fees to do this podcast, such as web host fees and more. I’m happy to offer this to you. Thank you for making it sustainable for me!
Have warm Solstices, New Year’s, and all the rest!
Thank you for bearing with me while I traveled, journeyed into deeper understanding of my ancestry, created big, joyous flower festivals, kicked off this year’s teacher training, and more! I have a class for you that has a lot of elements from what I’ve been teaching live recently. Lots of good, solid, functional movement to feel into your body and to really feel what sustains you. Listen for some good Krishna energy— that energy that supports us as we put one foot in front of the other. Practice, get a good, clear, connection to the inside, and share! Thank you for sharing this space with me!
A 60 minute vinyasa class to help us all regroup, find our center, and let the edges move us. Practice to the story of Virabhadra, avatar of Shiva, told in reference to mythologist Martin Shaw.
I reference a fantastic interview with Martin Shaw! If you'd like to hear the original, listen here: https://emergencemagazine.org/story/mud-and-antler-bone/
As always, a blanket and two blocks are great! And please be a friend of the podcast on Patreon.com/maiga!
I'm healing up from a bout of Lyme disease. This episode has me thinking about expansion and contraction, ebb and flow. Enjoy this grounding practice with some bandha flight to harness your own energies and direct them wisely. Lots of love and I hope it serves!
At recording time it's May 11, 2018, a waning moon. It's going darker, darker, down and into release. This yoga class is to align with the moon, wherever and whenever you are. A practice to flow down and into and through. Ida pingala, ardha candrasana, flow and let go.
Sending love in the dark nights. Be organic, be wild, be alive.
Blocks and a blanket always make for great yoga. If you haven't, come find me and support this podcast at www.patreon.com/maiga!
Isvara-pranidanadhva is the one-step path to the state of yoga. It asks us to surrender to our understanding of the Divine.
YIKES!
Or, soft beauty. A reminder of what is sacred and how to open to that.
Movement and philosophy towards connection on this spring Nor'easter. Stay safe and stay embodied.
A blanket and two blocks are always nice additions to these classes!
... and lots of space.
Right now, much of the northeast is buried. Cabin fever is possible. This is room. Room in your hips, in your breath, maybe even in your home.
I don't have any photos of me in malasana yet-- sorry! But not sorry to your hips. I think it will help. You'll feel truly comfortable binge-watching Netflix after practice. Enjoy!
This class is all about flow. I'm seeking it, watching it, and I invite you to do the same. What does it feel like? How does breath show us space? How can I too sit on a swan and hear a muse? Listen! All will be revealed!
As always, two blocks and a blanket might be nice while you take this class. Enjoy!
Enjoy the story and practice of Half Moon pose! A block will be really useful. A blanket is always nice to cover up in savasana!
As always, this is a great class for students with an existing practice.
Consider downloading Insight Meditation App to use for a meditation practice following class! Enjoy!
P.S. Bonus audio of my cat playing with a ball around minute 3!
More examples for students of Story Telling for Yoga Teachers! This sample runs just under 10 minutes. It's a peak pose of Hanumanasana, weaving in the story of Hanuman.
If you want a full class see any of the full length yoga classes! If you are interested in ideas around incorporating yogic myth and story telling into your yogic teaching, enjoy!
