Through this food series, I’ve discovered that drivers certainly are a knowledgeable lot when it comes to the best eats in Singapore. My next Makan Kaki, taxi driver Delon Tuan, 38, is especially in the know because he’s also professional chef with an intriguing story and a desire for the simpler things in life. And you can't get more simple than popiah! Low Ah Hee popiah is deceptively simple, though, packed with flavour and textures that will excite your tastebuds...

Welcome to a brand new 8-part series, in collaboration with CNA Lifestyle, featuring the best eats in Singapore, as recommended by cabbies and private hire drivers. You see, as a radio presenter, host of this feel-good food guide and resident glutton of GOLD 905, I often get recommendations on where and what to eat from listeners. Of which, a particularly vocal bunch is made up of drivers. So I figured, why not invite them to help me hunt down affordable meals that are worth the journey and most importantly, delicious? And just to spice things up, I decided to give them a little break from work and drive them instead! My first victim, er, passenger was private hire driver Ben Looi who showed me his spot for excellent vegetarian kway chap!

They were then challenged to create ice-creams from ingredients that were handpicked by fans. The result was 9 unique flavours including Hawthorne sorbet, Nasi Lemak & Kuih Koleh ice creams, which then were put to the vote.
Here are the 3 winning flavours which you’ll get to enjoy for free:
