On this week's episode, Sarah speaks with her cliet Deirdre Martin. Deirdre is an expert in Customer Experience and shares so much value.
Many small service-based businesses struggle to attract and retain their ideal clients. With marketing and customer experience coaching, they clarify their message and effectively craft their customer's journey to scale and grow a successful business full of their ideal clients.
Deirdre knows that most small business owners want to build a successful business whose reputation precedes them and where the sales and growth look after themselves. To do that, they need to clarify their message, illuminate their marketing and find a way to convert their existing clients into their raving fans.
The problem is getting their ideal clients to stop scrolling and take action when they come across their business and then figuring out how to retain those who do become their clients, which can leave them feeling overwhelmed. They should have messaging like a beacon to their ideal clients and a journey that their clients will want to use megaphones to tell everyone about.
Deirdre Martin, founder of CX Creators and Deirdre Martin Consulting gets it, which is why she studied customer experience back in 2015. She is a practiced performance coach with qualifications in coaching culture and emotional intelligence. She has co-authored a #1 bestselling book about Customer Experience, where she talks about how Human Experience is Fundamental to Customer Experience.

These days there is a lot of talk and much being done for menopause support in the workplace (& about time too).
Finally, the incredible talent that women in their 40's, 50's & 60's is beginning to be recognised. But what about women who are running their own business at this age & stage of their lives?
They probably don't need so much support with their environment as most entrepreneurs are working from home or office where they can control things like heating and space.
There is more to it than that. There is usually a combination of physical and emotional support that can not just make things more tolerable but help them to realise that menopause is actually a superpower.
Yes, confidence, moods & decision making can be challenging. As can sleep, energy and a host of other things. Hormones are changing. The 'caring & nurturing hormones' such as oestrogen & progesterone are decreasing. At this time of life, we are not meant to be spending our days caring for others & ignoring our own needs.
We are meant to start thinking about our own needs first. It's time to go inwards and ask yourself what you really want.
What do you want for your business? What do you want for yourself? This episode explores how menopause isn't a time to sit quietly in the corner & wait for retirement. It just might be a time when life starts to truly begin. Soon there will be a 5-day virtual retreat called Be Seen & Sell Challenge.

Throughout our time running our businesses, confidence drops for short periods.
This is normal. When it goes on for a significant period of time, then some extra support may be needed.
But having a coach who gets it can be a game-changer.
Lots of things help to create confidence in your marketing, such as consistency.
Consistency created confidence.
Showing up when you'd rather not creates confidence.
Getting support from other women in business creates confidence.
The doors are now open for WOW Academy. This program is going to change the way women market their businesses.

I've spoken before about plugging your leaking holes in your business (see episode 013) where I spoke about stopping turning up the tap to solve the problem but instead needing to 'plug' your leaks. This is still true in many areas of your business, but I want to share some thoughts I'm having around this.
A couple of weeks ago I was being coached around my thought that I was wasting time. I now have a lot of time available as my business is beautifully scaled, but I was having thoughts about spending too much time doing unproductive things. If I just focused more earlier in the day, then I could finish earlier & have more free time. This is the story I was telling myself, and it made perfect sense.
I wasn't looking for my coach to give me time management tools- I have those & teach them.
I wanted her to show me what I was doing 'wrong' so I could move past it & function much more efficiently. Again, this made perfect sense. Until it didn't.
I thought I had leaky holes in my day. Wasting time doing unnecessary things.
Turns out I was not.
I wanted more free time to do the things I was actually spending my time doing. I was giving myself a hard time about something that wasn't a problem. I love how coaching helps me to see things in a whole new light.
And this is when I had a big aha about all things leaky holes. It's in doing things imperfectly, doing them our own way, that is where the marketing magic happens. In the words of Leonard Cohen:'There's a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in'
I was trying to be the 'perfect marketer' in my business & follow a perfect plan. This has inspired me to teach the Wholehearted Marketing Masterclass & you can join us with the link below.
Listen to this episode to hear how I created the 6 Principles of Wholehearted Marketing, rooted in imperfection. Cracks and all.
Share your magic everywhere that you are imperfect- it what your dream clients want.
They don't want perfect. They want human. They want all of our struggles, experience, typos, failures, life.
They want you being you. Let go of thinking your marketing has gaps to be filled, leaks to be plugged or cracks to be closed. It doesn't.
Just show up as you, share you, share the value you have to offer- which is a clever way of saying to share your thoughts. That's all marketing is. Giving your thoughts away for free.
I know you can do that.

We are often told the reasons that we're not showing up consistently in our businesses is because we lack discipline, we are self-sabotaging or need to be better at focusing.
I don't believe this is usually the problem and can just add to the shame we already feel for not doing business 'properly'.
I believe it is because of trauma. We all have some form of trauma and it affects up in different ways.
For me, menopause has created an emotional roller-coaster and the effect has been (often crippling) lack of confidence and inconsistency with marketing.
If trauma hasn't been healed prior to menopause, it will reappear during times of big hormonal change.
You don't need to stop working on your business while you heal, but it's important that you work with people who can help.
In this episode, I share why I'm rebranding to Wholehearted Marketing Podcast. Yes, I have changed the name before. And no, I don't care if I'm judged about it!
I also share about how a simple reframe away from 'consistency' to something much more fun, can be a game-changer for you.
I'm following my heart. My whole heart. Just as my clients follow theirs. I will soon be sharing my 6 Wholehearted Marketing Principles during a brand new workshop.

Before we lurch forwards into the coming year, first we need to reflect on 2021 and all that we are grateful for.
This episode doesn't focus on gratitude, however it is mentioned first as it's so important to look at what has happened for us over the past year.
What this episode focuses on is the 3 steps that make the framework for your 3 year scale plan.
The first step is your 'business model'. This is the way you attract and work with your clients. Whether you have a 1:1 or 1:many model, or a combination of both, it's important to be clear what offers you are going to have in 2022.
The second step is having a clear business strategy. Like using 'The 1:Many Method', to create clients for signature programs with a workshop.
Instead of doing all-the-things, you just need to do this one thing. Lastly, you need the mindset to keep showing up and asking for the sale. Everyday, be on to your brain.
Next week there is a free training series to go through these 3 steps in detail. If you want to finish this year with more clients and set yourself up for a powerful 2022 with more impact & income, you can join here: https://thesarahleather.com/retreat/
