"If something makes you sad when it ends, it must have been pretty wonderful when it was happening."
- William in This is Us
Sometimes you get a bit emotional, especially as a mom and we all need a good cry sometime - here's my time.
Endings can be difficult and sad and it is totally fine to be upset, sad, frustrated and whatever other feeling you have when someone/something ends. But take comfort in knowing you are sad, because it was so amazing when it was happening.
You wouldn't be sad about the end if there wasn't something to miss.
Sending love to all of you!

"I have lived a long time and I have learned that one must forgive oneself the past or else the journey into the future becomes unbearable."
- Kate Morton The Clockmaker's Daughter
Forgiveness is really a skill. If you are unable to forgive yourself or others from the past that is where you are living. You may be physically in the present but your mind is still living in the past.
Do you want to live in the past or the present?

When your kid makes a mistake, like an accident - they pooped their pants, would you continually remind them; days, weeks, months, years later?
If there was another mom that made the same mistake as you, would you drill into her, make her feel worse and call her names? NO! So why do you do this to yourself?
I recount one of my mistakes with my son that I beat myself up about for a long time!
It's okay, you will make mistakes. What did you learn from it? And forgive yourself - follow the apology in the action at the end.

She is just so difficult to forgive because she constantly holds a grudge and continually relives your mistakes over and over again.
On top of that then she tells you things like:
"you're not good enough!"
"why would you do that?"
"you're so dumb."
It's no wonder she is so difficult to forgive when she can be so tough and mean on you.
She is...you!
Find out how to start forgiving yourself!

I take full responsibility for my past decisions.
Are you blaming someone else or a circumstance for a past a decision? Are you unable to move forward from the past?
When you take responsibility for your past and your decisions you then take control of them. When you have control you are now able to shape your present and your future.
However, when you blame someone or something else, you've given up that control.
If you really want to move forward into the now and the future you want, take responsibility for the past.

You make so many decisions a day! How can you cut down on this time and make decisions much easier?
Create your drivers.
Drivers are your values that drive your decisions and your life. They are what is most important to you.
When you can name the 2-3 most important things to you, that makes decisions so much easier. Health is a driver - skip the donut today. Family is a driver - take a break from work and play games with your kids.
When you know what is most important to you and you know the order - decisions become easier, you can be more intentional and you can make those memories that you want.

"I'm not worried about forgetting the big stuff. It's the regular Saturday when the kids were little, a day when nothing big really happens, and we're laughing and playing pin the tail on the donkey. That's the stuff I'm not ready to let go of yet." - Rebecca from This is Us
This is Us is full of life lessons and lots of tears too...but this is the overreaching theme of the show and what they wanted to leave viewers with.
It isn't the big things in life that make the biggest impact on us. It's the small, seemingly insignificant acts. Hanging with the kids, reading, snuggling, Sunday dinner.
What do you want to remember on your death bed. What memories do you want to stick once you are gone?

"I accept the past and create my freedom for the present and the future."
Most people want more freedom. But where does freedom really come from? The government, where you live, social forces?
Real freedom come from you. You can control that freedom and what it means for you.
Accepting what happened in the past creates freedom and space for you to create what you want now and in the future. You don't have control over the past and when you dwell on the past and place blame you have no space and energy to focus on what you want now and in the future.
Create your freedom now.
