6:05pm- At midnight on Tuesday, the U.S. government officially shutdown after Senate Democrats refused to agree to a continuing resolution. While Democratic Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (NV) and John Fetterman (PA) voted with Republicans to pass the CR, the vote fell short of the necessary 60-vote threshold. According to rumors, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is reluctant to negotiate a deal with Republicans—hoping to prove his progressive credentials in order to stave off a potential primary challenge from Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.
