Manga in Your Ears episodes

  • Pluto / Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches

It's, goodness, two weeks away from Thanksgiving. The days get darker

earlier, which sucks because now I leave work when it's dark outside.
It's also getting cold in Iowa, and has been for a week or so, and I'm
definitely getting back into the regular ways of cold mornings. It
involves more snoozing of the alarm clock and heat.

This episode, we're talking about Naoki Urasawa and Osamu Tezuka's Pluto from Viz Media and Miki Yoshikawa's Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches from Kodansha.

That song you heard at the top of the episode was "Drive My Car" by

The Beatles, I mean it's "Time Machine Nante Iranai" by Atsuko Maeda
from the live action Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches show.

As always, you can find me on Twitter @ImpassionateK, and my co-hosts Helen (@WanderinDreamr) and Apryll (@manjiorin) on Twitter at those places in the parenthesis. You can find both of their writing at The Organization of Anti-Social Geniuses, more of Helen's writing at Narrative Investigations, and my writing at the Fandom Post.

  • Insufficient Direction / Sweet Blue Flowers

Episode lucky number seven, unlike the movie Lucky Number Slevin,

which is an alright movie and has Lucy Liu, but anyway. The Dodgers and
Astros are in the midst of the World Series as I type this and I'm
missing the hot action (seriously, it's 90+ degrees in Los Angeles) as I
type this, so let's get on with it!

This time, we're talking about Moyoco Anno's Insufficient Direction published by Vertical Comics and Takako Shimura's Sweet Blue Flowers published by Viz Media.

The song you heard at the top of the episode, and that I forgot to

introduce, is "Aoi Hana" by Kukikodan from the Sweet Blue Flowers anime.

Next time is Pluto and Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches! We will

revisit Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind at some point in the future
because that manga is good, but just gotta get all our hands on it.

  • 7 Billion Needles / Complex Age

This has been a long time coming for I guess all of us, at least in

terms of Complex Age. Apryll has a pull quote on the back of the
volumes, and Helen and I previously covered volume one over on Taiiku.

If it hasn't been obvious yet, our current series we're covering in this episode is Yui Sakuma's Complex Age published by Kodansha. And our classic series is Nobuaki Tadano's 7 Billion Needles published by Vertical.

That song you heard at the top of the episode was "29" by Run River North.

  • The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer / Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun

Welcome to episode five! We're halfway to a milestone. Around this

time in the Taiiku Podcast, I imagine I sort of had an idea of what the
heck I was doing, and rolled with it. Then I learned a bunch of stuff I
was doing wrong over the subsequent months, and general improving at
editing, which I'm sure will be the case again come three years from
    now. But I digress.

This time, we're talking about Izumi Tsubaki's Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun published by Yen Press and Satoshi Mizukami's The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer published by Seven Seas.

The song you heard at the top of the episode is "Kimi Janakya Dame

Mitai" by Masayoshi Ōishi from the Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun anime.

  • Emma / Horimiya

We're back on schedule, hopefully for the long haul this time (or at

least until the holidays). This time, we're covering Kaoru Mori's Emma and HERO and Daisuke Hagiwara's Horimiya, both published by Yen Press.

That song you heard at the top of the episode is "Silhouette of a Breeze" by Kunihiko Ryo from the Emma anime.

  • Wandering Son / Vinland Saga

We're back from Otakon! Sorry for the delay, but we are finally here with our third episode. First up is Takako Shimura's Wandering Son published by Fantagraphics and Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga published by Kodansha USA.

That song you heard at the top of the episode is "Endlessly Falling" by The Slants.

    Here is the podcast

Helen and I did with Chris recapping our experiences at Otakon, which I
totally didn't forget to add a link to when I first posted this and, as
far as you know, has been here this whole time.

  • Fruits Basket / The Ancient Magus’ Bride

We're here with our second episode! This time, we're talking about Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket published by Yen Press and Kore Yamazaki's The Ancient Magus' Bride published by Seven Seas.

That song you heard at the top of the episode is "Synchrogazer" by Nana Mizuki from the Symphogear anime.

  • Solanin / My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness

This is not an episode of the Taiiku Podcast! This is a new podcast

called Manga In Your Ears, reviewing a currently published (or
publishing) series as well as an already completed series.

My co-hosts on this ride are Helen (@WanderinDreamr) and Apryll (@manjiorin), both of The Organization of Anti-Social Geniuses. This episode we are covering Inio Asano's Solanin, published by Viz Media, and Nagata Kabi's My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness, published by Seven Seas!

The song you heard at the top of the episode is "Solanin" by Asian Kung-Fu Generation from the live action Solanin movie.

I will be posting these episodes on a separate site just for Manga In

Your Ears (unless you prefer it just in the Taiiku Podcast feed, which
would be lazier for me?), as well as a separate feed (see previous
parenthetical) for future episodes. But for now, they will be dumped
alongside my Taiiku Podcast episodes. Call it a sister podcast!

    Listen

    Show notes:

0:40 - We start the show, introduce ourselves, and talk about Solanin!

16:53 - We talk about My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness!

Next time, we will be discussing Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket,

published by Yen Press, and Kore Yamazaki's Ancient Magus Bride,
    published by Seven Seas!
