Maria Kelson's debut thriller, Not the Killing Kind, won the inaugural Eleanor Taylor Bland Award for Crime Fiction Writers of Color in 2014. It will be published in September 2024 by Crooked Lane Books. Maria's upcoming appearances include the Creatures, Crimes, and Creativity Conference in Maryland in mid-September. She also writes speculative short stories, has given workshops at campuses and literary festivals around the country, was named an Arts Envoy to Colombia through the American Voices program, and has published two books of poetry as Maria Melendez.
