According to senior journalist and 2021 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa, this trend is not a coincidence. Maria is the founder of Rappler, an independent news channel established in 2012 in the Philippines to champion press freedom as a cornerstone of democracy. Among her notable works are "How to Stand Up to a Dictator: The Fight for Our Future" (2022), "From Bin Laden to Facebook: 10 Days of Abduction, 10 Years of Terrorism" (2013), and "Seeds of Terror: An Eyewitness Account of Al-Qaeda's Newest Center" (2003).
