  • How to Handle Anger and Fear in Marriage | Marriage Devotional Week 15
A fool gives full vent to his spirit. How to stop anger and fear from leading your marriage.

    About This Episode

Anger and fear are part of how God designed us, but when they go unchecked they can take control of our homes and damage our marriages. In this devotional, we get honest about our own struggles: Aaron with anger, especially when he feels disrespected, and Jennifer with fear and anxiety. We talk about how fear in one spouse can trigger anger in the other and disrupt communication. We look at how God is both righteous in His anger and slow to anger and rich in mercy, and at Scripture's call to self-control. We also discuss when anger can be rightly directed at sin and injustice, and how 2 Timothy 1:7 answers our fears.

    About Aaron & Jennifer Smith

Aaron and Jennifer Smith are the founders of Marriage After God and authors of Husband After God, Wife After God, and Marriage After God. Married since 2007 and raising six children in Bend, Oregon, they started Husband Revolution and Unveiled Wife to share what God was teaching them, not from a place of having it figured out, but as fellow travelers pointing couples back to Jesus.

  • Forgiveness in Marriage | Marriage Devotional Week 14
Forgiveness isn't reconciliation or excusing sin. It's the first step, and it starts before the apology comes.

    About This Episode

Forgiveness is essential to a thriving marriage, but it is often misunderstood. In this devotional, we explain that forgiveness is the necessary first step toward reconciliation, yet it is not reconciliation itself, not an excuse for sin, and not pretending the hurt never happened. We use the picture of water poured on a fire that still leaves char. We walk through Jesus' teaching on forgiving seventy times seven in Matthew 18 and the parable of the unforgiving servant, which shows that withholding forgiveness sets us above God. We also talk about what a real apology includes and why forgiveness is a heart posture we hold even before the apology comes.

    In This Episode

What forgiveness is not — not reconciliation, not excusing sin, and not pretending it didn't happen
Water on a fire — why forgiveness puts out the flames even though char remains
Seventy times seven — Jesus' words in Matthew 18 and Israel's 490 years of unkept Sabbaths
The unforgiving servant — how withholding forgiveness sets us above God
A real apology — naming what you did and why you're sorry
A heart ready to forgive — holding forgiveness before the apology comes
Humility and repentance — opening the door to reconciliation

  • Pride and Humility in Marriage | Marriage Devotional Week 13
Pride is loving self; humility is loving others. Spot the ways pride quietly shows up in your marriage.

    About This Episode

Pride quietly damages marriages by fueling defensiveness, distance, and conflict. In this devotional, we define pride as self-worship, the sin behind Satan's fall in Isaiah 14, and we name how it shows up between spouses: needing to be right, control, defensiveness, the silent treatment, keeping score, comparison, and jealousy. We look at why God lists pride among the things He hates in Proverbs 6, and how pride blocks reconciliation, quenches the Holy Spirit, and convinces us we don't need God. The answer is humility: submitting to God, keeping in step with the Spirit, and laying our pride down so we can love each other well.

  • The Armor of God in Marriage | Marriage Devotional Week 12
Belt, breastplate, shield and sword: how Ephesians 6 equips husbands and wives to stand firm together

    About This Episode

Our battle is not against each other. In this devotional, we walk through Ephesians 6 piece by piece and talk about what the armor of God practically looks like in a Christian marriage. The armor is God's armor, which is why Paul tells us to be strong in the Lord, and we look at David refusing Saul's untested armor to face Goliath in God's name. We talk about how truth keeps a couple unified and builds vulnerability and trust, how Christ's righteousness covers us while we also practice righteousness, and how faith, salvation and the word of God help us resist the enemy's lies, temptation and fear. Our hope is to remind couples that God has already given us everything we need to stand strong. We simply need to put it on daily.

Aaron and Jennifer Smith are the founders of Marriage After God and authors of Husband After God, Wife After God, and Marriage After God. • The Love Language That Matters Most in Marriage with Dr. Gary Chapman
Dr. Gary Chapman on the foot-washing moment that changed his marriage and why love is never leverage

    About This Episode

Aaron sits down with Dr. Gary Chapman, author of The Five Love Languages, to talk about the heart behind a lasting marriage and why love must be expressed with humility, grace and the attitude of Christ. Drawing on 64 years of marriage and decades of pastoral counseling, Dr. Chapman shares how early conflict in his own marriage led to an encounter with God, through the picture of Jesus washing feet, that forever changed the way he loved his wife. Together they explore how love languages can heal or harm when used the wrong way, why serving your spouse must come before trying to change them, and what his newest book, The Love Language That Matters Most, adds about dialects, personality differences and the danger of using love as manipulation instead of sacrifice.

  • Money in Marriage and God's Economy | Marriage Devotional Week 11
We think we're holding our money, but it's holding us: stewarding finances as a couple with open hands

    About This Episode

Money is one of the most common areas of tension for couples, yet Scripture calls us to approach our finances with trust, generosity and open hands. In this devotional, we talk about what it means to live according to God's economy in marriage, seeing money, time and resources as His rather than ours. We share a Ramsey study naming money as the second leading cause of divorce, Jennifer's story of a friend's generosity during a season of postpartum anxiety, and our own testimony of giving generously while paying off debt after God prompted us through Malachi 3:10. God's economy doesn't always line up with the world's expectations, but it leads to freedom and joy. When couples share a biblical view of money, finances become less about control and more about stewardship.

Malachi 3:10 — how God prompted us to give generously while paying off debt
Two years later — debt cleared, and the skills and ministry God grew out of it

    Scripture Referenced

Malachi 3:10 — the verse that prompted us to start giving generously
Deuteronomy 31:8 — the verse on the note Jennifer's friend left with the cupcakes
Romans 12:1-2 — presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice
Hebrews 12:1-3 — Jesus, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross

  • Spiritual Warfare in Marriage: Fighting for Your Family with Craig Thompson
Pastor Craig Thompson on the three fronts of spiritual warfare and why you shouldn't crowdsource your family

    About This Episode

Aaron sits down with Pastor Craig Thompson to talk honestly about the tension and blessing of balancing ministry with marriage and family. Drawing from his book Fighting for Your Family, Craig explains that the real enemy in our marriages is not the person who sleeps beside us, and walks through three fronts of spiritual warfare: the devil, the world and our own flesh. He shares how adopting their two youngest children exposed how selfish he and his wife could be, why winning a battle against your spouse is really losing, and how small, daily choices build a family's spiritual health the way consistent exercise builds physical health. They close with a call to stop crowdsourcing our families online and to get plugged into a healthy local church and small group.

    About Craig Thompson

Craig Thompson has pastored Malvern Hill Baptist Church in Camden, South Carolina, for more than 18 years. He and his wife, Angela, have been married 20 years and have four children, the two youngest through adoption. Craig is the author of Fighting for Your Family, a book on spiritual warfare in the home, and a Christmas devotional that points to Jesus through 25 stories from 25 Old Testament books.

Grace at home — remembering how much we have been forgiven before we correct others
Small, daily choices — why a family's spiritual health works like physical fitness

  • Your Spouse Is Not the Enemy | Marriage Devotional Week 10
Your spouse is not the enemy: naming the real battle and practical ways to fight better, not harder

    About This Episode

Conflict is a normal part of marriage, but it's easy to start seeing each other as the enemy. In this devotional, we talk about the deeper spiritual layers behind the tension couples feel. Scripture reminds us the real battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces and the desires of our own flesh. We look at how deception, accusation and temptation creep into our hearts and pull us away from unity, how our posture and body language often say more than our words, and what it looks like to disarm a fight with humility and prayer. As a Gary Chapman quote we share puts it, even if you win the argument, you still lose at the relationship, so let's learn to fight the good fight together.

  • How Your Conduct Shapes Your Marriage | Marriage Devotional Week 9
Is there an area of your life your spouse can't access? Protection, conduct and the power of a praying wife

    About This Episode

Our conduct shapes the culture of our marriage. In this devotional, we look at conduct as directing the course of our lives and leading those around us, and how the way we speak, respond and love reveals what we believe about God. Aaron talks about the husband's role as a protector of his wife and family, physically, emotionally and spiritually, and why secrets leave doors open to the enemy. Jennifer shares how a wife's faithful, prayerful conduct can strengthen her husband's walk with God, without contingency on what he does, including the story of a woman who prayed 30 years for her husband's salvation. We encourage couples to stay rooted in prayer, lean on the Holy Spirit, and not grow weary in doing good for each other.

  • Confidence in Christ for a Stronger Marriage | Marriage Devotional Week 8
Christ won't share the throne: finding worth in Him alone and the courage to lead your family spiritually

    About This Episode

Christ alone deserves the throne in our lives. In this devotional, we challenge each other to lay down anything we've elevated above Him and to find our worth, value and identity in who He is. Jennifer talks about confident worthiness for wives and why looking for value in self-reliance, fashion, family or even a husband always leaves us disappointed. Aaron talks about bravery for husbands: fighting the good fight of faith, opening the Bible and praying out loud for your family even when you feel unequipped, and remembering that the real battle is spiritual. Both flow from the same source, confidence in God, and both are threatened by the same obstacle, selfishness. When we honor Christ as our ultimate authority, we experience the fullness and freedom found only in Him.
