Tori Eldridge – Making A Ninja

Ninja’s Blade. Tori Eldridge is the Anthony and Lefty Awards-nominated author of The Ninja Daughter, which was named one of the “Best Mystery Books of the Year” by The South Florida Sun Sentinel and awarded 2019 Thriller Book of the Year by Authors on the Air Global Radio Network. Her short stories appear in several anthologies, and her screenplay The Gift earned a semifinalist spot in the prestigious Academy Nicholl Fellowship.

Before writing, Tori performed as an actress, singer, dancer on Broadway, television, and film. She is of Hawaiian, Chinese, Norwegian descent and was born and raised in Honolulu where she graduated from Punahou School with classmate Barack Obama. Tori holds a fifth-degree black belt in To-Shin Do ninjutsu and has traveled the USA teaching seminars on the ninja arts, weapons, and women’s self-protection. The keys to what a moment looks like before it pops off. Arguing with individuals and arguing with crowds, one is unlikely to be productive, the other downright dangerous. Dealing with crowds is fear and the beat down can be overwhelming. Safety tip, if their are nightly riots, avoid them.

I have been a Corrections Officer, a Sergeant, a Tactical Team member and a Tactical Team Leader; I have taught corrections and enforcement personnel skills from first aid to physical defense to crisis communication and mental health.  I’ve done this from my west coast home to Baghdad.  So far, my life has been a blast.

I’m a bit scarred up, but generally happy.

We start the interview with a simple question, “When are the Sabers going to win the cup?”  it strikes a power blow straight to his heart as a childhood fan of the Buffalo Sabers. Oddly a little football makes its way into the conversation. Buffalo Bills are the topic of course and let’s throw in some Super Bowl.

We kick off the martial arts aspect of the podcast with real-world use of the last book of the Musashi’s Book of Five Rings, the Void.  The Void is going to show up a lot in this podcast and the most useful ways.

The 30 years ago guy, what does his martial arts look like, and Ando gets pretty darn real here and he scrapes away the veneer and answers thoughtfully and honestly.  We may all benefit from his method of cold analysis.
