Mathew Cerletty was born in 1980 and grew up in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn. Mat studied at Boston University graduating with a BFA in 2002.

He has had solo exhibtions at galleries such as Rivington Arms, Team Gallery, Blum & Poe, Office Baroque and others.

He’s been in groups shows at venues such as Standard, Oslo, Metro Pictures, the Whitney Museum of Art. Bureau, New York, Marlborough Chelsea, Anton Kern, Lisa Cooley, Gavin Brown and many more.

He’s also curated shows at Algus Greenspon and Gavin Brown/Passerby.

Brian met up with Mat in his Williamsburg studio, not far from his apartment, and they spoke about painting skills, the early days of showing work, art world learning lessons, the strong odor of Abercrombie & Fitch and a lot more.
